I feel like this game was very well thought out but I feel like it was a little of a rip off of Russian Roulette. Our odds are better than those of Russian Roulette but the pot is smaller the majority of the time. This did help me understand probability because of the chance of winning and ours is 2 in 8 chance so that is a 25 percent chance of winning. We all worked together by dividing and conquered. The girls worked on the spinner and the art and the boys wrote the instructions and did the prices for the prizes. I felt that since Rachael did bad on a quiz and I felt a little pressure but she was always kind of nice and not that bossy. I learned that fair games are ones that are not modified so that way you will not win. In Las Vegas games
One of the darker actions examined in this unit takes place in "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell. In this short story, General Zaroff begins hunting a man lost on his island named Rainsford. Bored of the usual game, General Zaroff decides he wants something more exciting and chooses to prey on humans. This ill-judged decision has a domino effect on the plot, ultimately ending in the demise of Zaroff. Nonetheless, an alternate ending besides death could have very well been a possibility. Perhaps, instead of hunting humans, Zaroff decides to open a hunting camp to share his passion for the sport with others. Obviously, his boredom is caused by the island's isolation from society. So, Zaroff could have built homes and started a community or decide to leave the island altogether. Then, the course of this story would have taken a completely different path. Maybe, Zaroff finds a wife, they have children and live happily ever after. If only he was able to overcome his dark side instead of letting it consume him.
Last week I attended the University of Wisconsin – Superior’s event called Dr. Seuss Bingo. Some of my friends joined me, their names were Liz and Taylor. The event was very enjoyable as we all had some items we wanted to get, such as I wanted a package of PowerAde, Liz and Taylor both wanted the body pillow that the Campus Recreation provided as just a few of the winning items. When the event started we all were laughing and having a good time. After people started winning all the prizes when none of us did we started to get upset when we got so close to winning and then someone else won. Me and my friends didn’t end up winning until the very end when there wasn’t much left to pick from for prizes.
This Operation classic board game tests your senses and ability with amusements such as ringers, burps, barks and more. Utilizing tweezers and an unfaltering hand, what do you hear? It sounds like a loo flush, looks like Cavity Sam has an instance of terrible pipes, work on the operation and bail him out. Press his nose to see whether it was a win. At that point listen up and the game will let you know what to get next.
The Spanish Roulette is a fictional account of events in the life of a young Puerto Rican named Sixto who swears to avenge for his sister’s assault. According to the story, Sixto’s sister had been raped by a local gang member who Sixto assures must suffer the same pain as his sister before he can finally kill him. Evidenced by the story, Sixto fights the thought of killing his sister’s tormentor while loading his revolver, but finally, snaps and decides to go ahead with his plan thereby leaving any logic and moral reasoning not to kill the gang member. The author, Ed Vega’s epic account of the life of Sixto closely resembles his first-person account of the life in Puerto Rico where the street is controlled by gang members who could rob from innocent families, handle drugs and unauthorized weapons including guns, and go about their business without being interfered by people in the community or the police (Lee). This essay asserts that based on the author’s argument and character representation, revenge is the only hope for the weak in the face of trouble when even the society cannot intervene and this argues that Ed Vega proved as creative and a competent writer by using the various features of poetic writing to create the intended image, environment, characters, and build on the theme of revenge.
In order to involve our class, we decided to create a game. We will have paper that will run across the classroom, of which represents the river styx. There will be two teams and they will be asked to go out into the hallway for a certain amount of time. Once they come back in, they will create a group with their team. How the game works is that there will be a jar of questions. One person at a time will pull a question
Resourcefulness is being able to overcome difficulties quickly and in a clever way. Resourcefulness can also be using one’s surroundings for his/her benefit with prior knowledge and experience. In Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game” the main character Rainsford shows these skills of resourcefulness as he tries to survive the hunt. Rainsford is an experienced big game hunter that is trapped on a tropical jungle covered island with another big game hunter, General Zaroff. Zaroff has gained so much experience in hunting, due to this he has lost interest in hunting animals and now enjoys the hunt of humans. Rainsford is put in the position to be torched or participate in a game of hunting. When Rainsford is challenged to this game of hunting he is forced to try and survive. Rainsford is able to survive the hunt because he uses his resources and prior knowledge to weaken Zaroff helping him win the hunt.
Cook County was having more patients than it could handle complaining about chest pain. Also, determining if the pain could be a heart attack was a very inefficient and a long process with too much information. So they streamlined the process, mainly considering 4 things which were the EGG, fluid in lungs, systolic pressure, and unstable angina. The results were more accurate and saved time. This showed that, sometimes with too much information, there is too much of the complicaticated information and an answer can’t be reached and with less information a correct answer can be reached quickly.
1. Yes; due to the hints left by the author and overall mood of the story, I could discern that the type of lottery they were conducting was unusual and had a dark twist awaiting the end. However, I was not expecting such an extreme turn of events. Once the ending revealed itself, the entire plot immediately "clicked" in my mind. In paragraph two of "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson it established that though the children were out of school, "the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them." Leaving school for the summer should have been a weight lifted off their shoulders, enabling them to experience their sense of renewed freedom without restriction. Inversely, their mysterious sense of unease hints to the reader that something is odd.
In “The Most Dangerous Game,” by Richard Connell, the characters encounter many life-changing problems. This fictional, but suspenseful, piece contained a variation of conflicts for each character. Whether it was a character vs. character, nature, or himself each one shows the person’s true colors, and shapes them to be who they are. From the start Rainsford believed hunting was completely justifiable. However, once he had that experience with Zaroff his opinions changed. Rainsford encounters many conflicts and because of that, many aspects of his feelings and thoughts toward a variety of subjects is revealed.
Monopoly does have many useful skills such as accounting and money investments. However, the board game does reinforce American values, it incorporates the lemets of the American Dream and the corporate culture as well. Even if the game is played differently, these values remain the same and some players even become greedy and heartless (do anything to win, even if it means hurting friends or family). It’s very interesting, it taught me new ideas, and made me think of games that they are not always as it seems.
Despite the crudeness and evil of the Lottery, the village has established a set of elaborate rules that they follow to the letter right down to who is supposed to draw from the box and who is responsible for the families responsible. The village is also based on a Patriarchal system since teenage boys are given priority over their mothers when it comes to participation.
The stock market game assignment was a new learning experience. The simulation gave us $100,000.00 to buy and sell domestic equities. The guidelines made the game a bit more straightforward by not allowing students to trade certain items. This assignment gave students the opportunity to see how the trading market works. Overall the stock market game assignment was a great way for any student to learn how the market works by having hands on experience with buying and trading their own stocks.
B. Monopoly is a board game that originated in the United States in 1903 as a means of demonstrating that an economy which rewards wealth creation is better than one in which monopolists work under few constraints.
Ralph Ellison’s “King of the Bingo Game” was first published in the literary journal Tomorrow in November, 1944 ("King of the Bingo Game”). “The story is customarily examined as a prototype for Ellison’s novel Invisible Man,” but the work was based on his own experience ("King of the Bingo Game”). Ralph Waldo Ellison is a famous American novelist and his novel Invisible Man won the National Book Award in 1953 ("King of the Bingo Game”). The story takes place in a Bingo Hall up North during the great Migration, in the 1940s (Ellison 242). The story belongs to the satire genre using the third person point of view. The tone of the whole story is sad. Ellison uses characters and symbolism to explore the theme of the hopelessness of people in front of their destiny and the discrimination of the African Americans in the unequal society of America in the 1940s.
The purpose of participating in the stock market game is to explore the fundamentals of the stock market. It does this by providing a tangible, real-time simulation of the stock market, and how current events affect the DOW. The stock market game also teaches students to make smart decisions and most importantly to be patient.
