SEM Rainbow Summary

The mainstream ideologies of contemporary Australian society are represented and challenged by Nick Enright in his 1995 play ’Blackrock’ and ‘An Absolutely Ordinary Rainbow,' by Les Murray in 1969. Black rock is a play about a community of teenagers, intertwining with offending law, alcoholism and deaths.

With that said, the Colorectal Cancer Prevention Campaign program’ s intention is to use its opportunities to positively change this weakness. For example, using the SWOT findings, the conclusion is that the organization identified some weaknesses such as the low education level affecting most of the population, and a lack of understanding which caused a lack of motivation to participate in colorectal cancer screening. With that said, the organization’s intention is to use this opportunity to educate the community on the issue while collaborating with the Department of Health to provide resources to help with this objective. Afterword, the organization intends to use the positive outcomes such as increase early detection and decrease cost for treatment to get the attention of other stakeholders such as insurance companies and policy

Social capital includes two avenues – bridging and bonding, that have the the ability to improve healthier outcomes in communities; research has shown that communities with higher levels of social capital have a higher mortality rate (Policy Link, 2002). Bonding improves the overall relationships, as lack of trust is profound in minority communities; and bridging enhances the association through culturally appropriate messaging in an effective manner (Policy Link, 2002). Social capital avenues are critical for services that provide quality healthcare access and positive outcomes (Policy Link, 2002). Partnerships are substantial to build an infrastructure that is often missing key variables and requires the involvement of multiple sectors (Policy Link, 2002). Communities through task forces are also able to challenge government authorities and industries on deteriorating environments, and correlation to debilating health (Policy Link, 2002). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention mission is to collaborate to create information and tools for people and communities to protect themselves through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and the preparedness for new health threats The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention seeks to accomplish its mission by working with partners throughout the nation and the world to monitor health, detect and investigates health problems, conduct research to enhance prevention, develop and advocate sound public health policies, implement prevention strategies, promote health behaviors, foster safe and healthful environments, and provide leadership training. In order for the Centers for Disease to achieve their mission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention relies on external partners including public health association, state and local public health agencies, schools and universities, and volunteer organizations. Over the next few weeks, our mission will consist of finding new solutions to better educate individuals in our society on the importance of health education, by improving care through technology, which ultimately better our society. Our organization will focus on fundraising, however, we focus on fundraising will be from a health perspective, to make sure we focus on individual health at all times. I will be responsible for the implantation of Better Health Care

The African American Health coalition is a group under the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency, newly redesigned as the Common Ground Health. Their focus is to create a community response that would eliminate health disparities that affect African Americans within the community (Common Ground Health). The creation of a coalition is due to a need for “different sectors of the community, state or nation” to join together “to create opportunities” to benefit all parties involved (Butterfoss, 157). As well the “strategies for addressing the initial problem” are not a one time solution, but are “sustained” over a long period of time (Korfmacher, 436). In an approach to health promotion and the prevention of diseases that affect the Hispanic community disproportionately we can look at prevention in 3 levels, primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary prevention would be preventing a disease or injury before it occurs. This could be done with the use of education and legislation on safety and health practices. Secondary prevention would be reducing the impact of the disease or injury that has occurred. This could be accomplished by early detection and health screenings. Lastly the tertiary prevention would be used to alleviate the impact of ongoing illness or an injury that has lasting effects. This would be accomplished by helping to manage chronic and complex diseases/conditions and permanent disabilities. This would help improve quality of life and life expectancy. One condition, while not a leading cause of death, but on the rise in the Hispanic community is the high incidence of HIV. The incidence rate is 3 time higher for Hispanics than white Americans. In 2013 the HIV rate in Hispanics counted as 23% of all new infections. Hispanic males were 85% of these new infections. ("CDC," 2015)

Health care providers can overcome differing points of view regarding health promotion and disease prevention by creating a learning environment built on mutual trust, respect and acceptance. The goal is to provide education that is built upon the individual or group strengths that empower and engage the group/individual to be an active participant. It should encourage decision-making that positively affects lifestyle and health behavior changes.

The aim of the health care system is to improve patient outcomes through the delivery of medical services by influencing the conveyance of preemptive and primary healthcare services (Lathrop & Hodnicki, 2014, p. 1). Communal health is the development of health outcomes for the entire population through health promotion and disease prevention. For that reason, I believe integrating these two entities will prove to be beneficial in reducing disjointed care, cost, and eliminate inadequate care in the nation’s health care system.

In public health, as in many fields there are a set of conundrums that practitioners, leaders and law makers have to address in order to provide the most appropriate service to their populations. One of these conundrums is the battle between what is good for the community vs. what is good for the individual. This topic will be broken up to the community vs. the individual, and discussed based on research done by Kass et al, and Oriola, and will be concluded by presenting possible solutions.

Since 1980, the United States has taken on 10-year plans that outline certain key national health objectives set to be accomplished during a 10-year timeframe (Shi & Singh, 2015). When the Sun's light is refracted on passing through tiny rain droplets falling in the air a Rainbow is formed. Rainbows only need light from the sun or the moon and a large amount of spherical raindrops to form in the atmosphere. The rainbows can be compared to mini prisms. The light is refracted ("bending of light as it passes from one medium to another") and it causes different wavelengths (or colors) of the white light to separate. Whether these wavelengths of light will pass through the raindrop or reflect depends on the angle the light strikes the back of the raindrop. If a wavelength of the light strikes the back of the raindrop at an angle less than 48 degree relative to the normal then the light will pass through the raindrop.
