Synovus Financial Corporation (SFC) This paper will present an analysis of the success factors for SFC’s objectives of caring for their people and maintaining an ethical culture. One success factor is the role that leaders play in shaping the culture. Additional factors include the application of best practices discussed in current research and literature and how those practices align with God’s instructions in Scripture. How SFC took care of their people SFC took exceptional care of their employees by going beyond regulatory requirements (United States Deparment of Labor, 2016). For example, with no retirement matching or stock option requirement, SFC offered an 8% retirement match and stock options, communicating to its employees that they are valued (Drazin, Hess, & Mihoubi, 2006). In addition, SFC demonstrated balance by offering significant additional benefits, while holding employees accountable to the corporate values (2006). Dempsey’s (2015) …show more content…
For example, Barclay focused on profits over people, which led to declined profits, loss for countless customers, scandals, and legal battles. In contrast, Ultimate Support rallied leaders to change their culture, insisting on ministry-based values at every level, resulting in significantly increased profits and maintaining an ethical culture (Duncan, 2013). There is vast evidence that SFC methods for maintaining an ethical culture align with current research. Conclusion An analysis of SFC’s ethical culture and commitment to their people demonstrates that their methods are supported by research and encouragement in Scripture. As leaders continue to play a pivotal role, and employees are held to the same standards, the organization is likely to experience continued success. Finally, the likelihood increases as God speaks of blessings to those who honor
Careful analysis of the corporate code of ethics, applicable laws, and Scripture provided clear solutions for managers to take to avoid these incidents. First, provide employees the code of ethics, train them to follow the codes, supervise the work of the engineers, and immediately correct violations. Second, take similar steps regarding the knowledge and application of law. Third, Christians must conduct themselves within the construct of God’s Word and these principles should provide an example for others to follow.
UCM: CPSW received a call from Ms. Messerli reporting that she needs the lock number for her storage from foster provider family. She also stated that she needs the boy's cell phone back. CPSW reminded Ms. Messerli that this writer will ask the foster provider about the phone and storage numbers. Also, CPSW reminded Ms. Messerli not to contact or call both children until the theripist approves it. Ms. Messerli stated that she will try. Howerver, Ms Messerli sounded unhappy and really upset about not contacting her children Nick and Alexander.
When asked about how they characterize “biblical principles” the employee responses were varied and sometimes ambiguous. Of the few employees who were able to define what “biblical principles” signified to them, a common theme appeared. More than one employee referred to the biblical passage Mathew 7:12 the Golden Rule, roughly translated into “do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” Other illustrations were “doing the right thing” and “having faith in the people around you”.
In this paper the Code of Ethics from the Department of Human Services will be discussed. This case study deals with Chick-fil-A, a family owned company. The purpose of the business is to “glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted” (Chick-fil-A (b), nd) to them. The firm runs its business following Biblical principles and a kind of “Christian model”. So for example, the company’s restaurants are closed on Sunday (Chick-fil-A (a), nd).
The purpose of this paper is to show that Revelational Christian Ethics is a viable metaethical approach to Business. This ethical theory is a prescriptive and a concrete expression of objective reality. It exemplifies the core values and teachings of Jesus Christ as the foundation of morality and guiding principles for ethical conduct, treatment of others, as well corporate leadership decisions that affect the environment, community, and economics.
In an industry overwhelmed with fraud and corruption, Martin Marietta was ready to revamp their reputation to become an ethical company. This concept catapulted a decade of creating, developing, and tweaking an ethics program. Martin Marietta's goal was to maintain a work place with "descent people doing quality work" (page 1). But with this idea came a series of difficult challenges the company needed to overcome. Martin Marietta arose to the challenge and executed an elaborate ethics program. The programs successes were hard to measure at best. A SWOT analysis was designed to reflect upon all aspects of the ethics program. A case study was used to discuss Martin Marietta's
The world around us is constantly progressing; meaning ethics and social responsibility will become increasingly fundamental towards long term business success. There are many different principles on which to reflect when it comes to moral reasoning from a Christian worldview as it relates to business. The three basic pairs of principles are integrity and sustainability, competence and compassion, along with unity and participation. Christians are should exhibit personal ethics that represent the image of Jesus. Personal ethics is defined as moral principles that govern a person's behavior. Living and maintaining a Christian identity in the workplace can be very challenging in today's society. Far too many Christians leave their faith and religious beliefs behind as they handle business matters. However, this is unacceptable in the eyes of God. Christianity is a lifestyle; not a piece of clothing that can be put on and taken off at any given time. Matthew 10:32 clearly states that, "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven”. Morally Christians are held
In today’s society Christian business leaders are held to a much higher ethical standard and are criticized more often than wordily business leaders. Although we are all human and mistakes, Christian leaders have to walk the straight and narrow righteous path at all times because they are judged by others. Ethical values should be instilled and upheld by everyone and should be the standard behavior used in everyday life. As business leaders, we should inventory our lives and make sure that we are removing things that may tarnish our character as a Christian. Christian leaders should always follow the Golden Rule “Do unto others as you would have them to do unto you” which comes from the scripture Luke 6:31. Christian leaders should create a “work family” environment by learning their employees, what they do daily, show them that they are cared about, giving them recognition on their performance, and let them know that they are valued by the company.
Analyze the manner in which Zappos’ leadership has fostered a culture of ethicalness in the company. Suggest two (2) actions that other companies can take in order to mimic this culture.
Ethical behavior is virtuous and beneficial for business in any type of organization. In healthcare, the outcomes are improved patient care, dedicated staff and healthcare providers, and amplified market share. It obliges leaders, managers, directors, and supervisors to have a comprehensive interpretation of the role of ethical decision making (Winkler, 2005). Ethical health care organizations have incorporated and combined ethical practices and values, continuing education on ethics for everyone involved, successful ethics substructure, and morally spirited and dauntless leaders (Winkler, 2005). These organizations have a vision and statements that directs behavior and decision making.
Alexander Hill’s Christian Ethics for the Marketplace in my view point focuses on ethics as it relates to business which also includes the Christian element. Hill outlines the scripturally grounded ethical structure of holiness, justice, and love for business practices. Hill also connects his Christian ethic to the dominant methods of ethical practice in the world of business. Lastly, Hill uses the analysis of case studies in lieu of his proposed Christian ethic. Although questions in regards to ethical behaviors remain conclusively unanswered, several find ethical structure valuable when dealing with difficult situations.
This case study was a powerful example to illustrate the presence of ethics within the
Christians are called to the higher purpose of fulfilling a spiritual life in accordance to God’s will (II Timothy 1:9 New Living Translation, NLT). At the same time Christians are a part of society and therefore participate in the wealth of the economy. Although some have challenged business is morally neutral, business can be a wonderful way to bring glory to God (Grudem, 2003). This is possible when Christians apply their Christian worldview and abide by a code of conduct constructed from this worldview (Ruddell, 2004). This paper will examine the process of constructing an ethics program based on a Christian worldview.
The overall vibe about the Raptors of late has been pretty horrible to say the least. Expectations ballooned too fast and became hard to maintain for a young team without one of its better players for the meat of the season. I think it's really unfortunate to see/hear the negativity and hope this slump ends soon.
