As a SPEA student entering my second semester of my sophomore year I am excited to state my intent to pursue the SPEA Accelerated Masters Program through Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
While in Accelerated Masters Program at SPEA I plan on studying and receiving a masters in Public Affairs. I believe this program will enhance my abilities not only as a student but also as a employee. This program is something that has peaked my interest since I have learned about it and I strongly believe due to this program’s success that it will position me ahead of other graduates from other universities.
Since becoming an Indiana University student I have joined the 21st Century Volunteer Corps in order to serve my community
One group that I volunteer for is Mokihana Aquatics. For the past four years I’ve been a volunteer for the Mokihana Aquatics Learn to Swim program, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Thanks to the director of Mokihana, Coach ‘O’, I’m also a certified lifeguard now, and I can spend my time doing the something that I love.
This innovative program will make a meaningful difference in my life. I hope to build on my legacy of work in education, sustainability, and addressing the world’s needs. In addition, I will continue to focus on the environment, through the lens of wellness, whether through in-school or out-of-school programs. I’ll also continue to address the most pressing needs the world is facing. When I grow up, I want to have a career in math and science related fields. My goal is to one day be able to use engineering and technology to end global warming make the world a pollution free place. Hence, I hope to learn and gain a lot by participating in The Academy at Rutgers for Girls in Engineering and
While volunteering at Discovery Challenger I have exclusively worked with a blind man named Geno. My service to the Discovery Challenger Program has positively affected the community in that the athletes that required a helper were able to have me as one despite the limited number of volunteers who helped the athletes. Another community service I committed myself to while in high school was the club Life is Delicious. Life is Delicious is a club that between two and three times Year members of the club cook a warm meal at the high school, and then some go to the St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter in Waterbury. At the end of my sophomore year I was named Co-President of the club. As a member of the club I went to all of the cooking and serving activities and was able to help the homeless of Waterbury by giving them a warm meal. The most impactful service I performed in my opinion was during my junior year when I was the organizer for the Penguin Plunge. During my junior year I thought that it would be a good idea for the basketball team to do the Penguin Plunge in order to raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut as I had done so in the previous two years. So, I approached the athletic director
Emigrated from the Philippines, the moment I step into the American soil, I knew that I was given an opportunity to serve and contribute my unique view of the world. Aside from having a degree in Accounting, my Public Affair major with Public Management specialty, will allow me to
When I heard that I needed some 5 hours of community service hours for my AAA class, I was disappointed for a while. I thought that I would need to go one some special mission there and back again,... or something like that. I was glad when I leaned that any community service hours that you had performed that summer counted towards the 5 hour goal, and just this summer I had volunteered at the Colorado State Fair Lost Child Center. The Co. State Fair Lost Child Center is generally operated by my Civil Air Patrol Crew CO-RMR-179, also known as the Pueblo Eagles. This year my squadron became a venturing crew too, (Venturing is a branch of Boy Scouts) because this year we decided to perform the Lost Child Center as a Venturing crew, and
After much thought about what I would want to for my volunteer project, I finally settled on the “Feed the Homeless” campaign organized by the Southwest Rotary Club of Las Vegas. This experience allowed me to work with the fantastic organization, Rotary International, and has given me the opportunity to better myself, both personally and professionally, through working with great people and overcoming the challenges presented to me.
In five years I hope to be graduating college and transitioning straight into the workforce. Growing up in a family company allowed me to learn about how the business operates at an early age. Due to this fact I would like to major in business management and finance. Being raised in a small town can have its benefits but it can also have its restrictions. There isn’t much room to experience new adventures, but it is a place that you can always come back to. My week long experience at Hoosier Girls State 2016 left me to ponder the major, applied politics. The time spent there had my mind reeling on all the ways I could make a difference in our area through a political standpoint.
As surprising as it may sound, I have been doing community service since the sixth grade and it is a new experience each time. It all began with a community clean up known as 'Keep McAllen Beautiful' as we got there everyone seemed excited to be there. It was beautiful to see such unity inside of my community, and I decided from then on that I would like continue helping out where it is needed. As I joined the National Honor Society my chances of providing my services increased, and I decided that I would assume a position of leadership when needed. I became the society's president, which allowed me to develop my time management skills, creativity, and efficiency. I organized an fundraiser for the hurricane Harvey disaster victims where all
The Student Government Association, a student lead organization aimed to improve the campus community, has established several goals they would like to accomplish during the current school year, 2015-2016. In order to determine these goals and objectives, two detailed persona profiles were created which provided the association with a better understanding of their audiences and how to best communicate with them. The publics were divided into two groups, students pertaining to the senate and students pertaining to the student body. Therefore, the next stage consists in performing research regarding the goals SGA has established by conducting surveys and focus groups on campus.
While I have been blessed with many opportunities that helped me grow by pushing me to new limits, my volunteer work at South McKeel Academy through National Honor Society is my most memorable. The way I was brought upon this experience was not with the average vote. One morning I showed up to the 7 A.M. meeting ready to hear about how all
Volunteering has been an essential part of my life in the past few years. As an immigrant to Canada, I deemed it my responsibility to serve my community here and back home. Hence when I got ample of opportunities to get involved I always seized them.
Having come from a military family; my father, uncles, and many friends, I decided my volunteer agency would be one that involved supporting veterans. I grew up with these organizations being a part of my life; mainly because my father was extremely devoted to one, but I only knew it on the surface—attended a few dinners and dances. I wanted to experience and understand more “behind the scenes” so to speak.
One of the earlier events that the APA introduced to interns focused on higher education, particularly the process of getting into graduate schools. The speaker was Dr. Nabil Hassan El-Ghoroury; he is currently the Associate Executive Director
The chance to complete a master’s degree in public administration at Arkansas State University would be more than just an opportunity. Being a first generation American, I am proud of my accomplishments both personal and academic.
I am writing to apply for a Masters of Public Policy. I believe this program will provide me the opportunity and knowledge to position myself to be part of the process of how enacting and implementing policy. The recent election and the position that the incoming White House administration has taken on immigration, further confirms my belief that public policy is vital in shaping our understanding of our social systems.
