Introduction IBM established the Software Group in 1995 and pulled together IBM's infrastructure, middleware and operational software from their dispersed units and became a self-sufficient software business, with growth rates, profits and other decisive measures on par with other major software companies. Therefore SWOT analysis must be performed before setting the objective, in terms of changing from strategy planning to strategy implementation. This allows the organization to set achievable goals and objectives. We have used IBM’s SWOT analysis to discuss internal factors that can influence company’s success and strategies. Strengths: For 20 years, IBM leads the world of technological success with patents in the US. IBM is the company handling 95% of all business in nearly 1000 most profitable companies in the US. In 2009 IBM were recognised as the 4th most recognized brand name in the world with a value of 66 billion US dollar and over 400000 employees worldwide. IBM earned 4186 patents in year 2008 and the following year they increased to 4914. In year 2009, IBM published around 4000 technical inventions and products without patent protection; this is a valuable intellectual property. Weaknesses: 1. IBM’s size can make the company slower to reach to customer’s needs and also the industry’s fluctuations.
