So first is history, so in 1776 Matthew Dobson described a type of diabetes called Mellitus, this was because the blood and urine of the dog tasted sweet and in Greek the word of sweet was mellitus so he named it Mellitus. But when he found it in the urine he thought of it as passing through and in Greek diabetes means to pass through. Then he later called it diabetes mellitus. Then in 1745-1821 Johann Frank defines Insipidus from Mellitus. He found that since Mellitus was its own type he started to notice a different type. One where the dog was constantly drinking and urinating so when he examined a dog he noticed that when they drank a lot as he described it but that is about it considering he …show more content…

These types are Insipidus and Mellitus, Insipidus is the water diabetes and Mellitus is the sugar type. So Mellitus is the type that has a insulin issue. The insulin is supposed to work because this is what triggers the muscles and other tissues to do what they're supposed to do. But since the insulin does not get produced. We give it to the dog. Back to Mellitus, Since there is no insulin the protein the dog eats doesn’t turn to glucose. Glucose is the stuff that gives you energy to run and do other activities. So basically, the dog won’t have energy which is not a great thing. But Mellitus is also split in two, those types are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 is pretty dangerous if not treated and it is when the body is not producing any too little insulin. This means the beta cells (the cells that are affected by the insulin) are either destroyed or damaged. This is the case where the dog will lose a lot of energy because there is no insulin making protein into glucose. This is why it is deadly, but it is treated with insulin shots. Then there is type 2, this type is when it tries to reject the insulin but fails most of the time on stopping the insulin. Some insulin is blocked so we use the shots to put insulin that is missing in their body. This is not deadly it’s just that you need or should give them shots, but otherwise they are fine. Then we had Insipidus, this is the water type of diabetes. So what happens is like I said before the insulin is produced but it doesn’t trigger the livers and kidneys to take in the water. This means that when they drink it goes right through them. It is not very bad and it a good life chance. But the one thing they need 24/7 is water. There is two different effects as you can say to Insipidus. One is CDI (central diabetes insipidus). This is when the hypothalamus in the brain does not register the water coming in. So the kidneys and livers don’t take action so the water just passes
