One of my favorite places to visit is the Saco river. The Saco river is a relatively small river near the New Hampshire, Maine border. A group of friends and I usually only visit once a year and because of this I think it makes this place even more special to me. I find this place to be restorative and it also appeals to my attitude and self-identity in some ways. Considering that I spend a lot of time inside on the computer and near technology in general, usually this type of place would seem to be the opposite of what I would enjoy, but on the contrary I feel that I have a connection to this place. I think that because I spend so much time inside, this place is what I need sometimes to balance it all out. I would describe myself as an introvert …show more content…
This is one of the biggest factors that draw me back to this place every year. I was not fully aware why I was so attracted to this place, other than it was a fun experience when I was there. Now I understand better, the restorative effect of the natural environment. Stress recovery theory and attention restoration theory are the two most important theories that are related to restorative environments. Stress recovery theory says that when the natural environment is structurally complex and interesting, it can quickly invoke a positive response to it reducing levels of fear and therefore reducing stress. the Saco does just this, immediately when I enter the area of the Saco river I feel awe and a sense of equilibrium by the environment surrounding me. As explained by perceptual fluency, when I visit the Saco river, there are usually lots of people around and without the presence of these people I think that this place would seem scarier and probably stress inducing rather than stress reducing, but because this is not the case it makes me feel safer. The environment is also very repetitive, trees, sand banks, and the river, which makes it more familiar in turn also making me feel safer. The familiarity and safe feeling that the place offers are very comforting and can therefore reduces stress levels. Attention restoration also plays a part in the reason I am attracted to …show more content…
When I visit the Saco, I like to explore and experiment with my surroundings. Ever since I can remember I enjoyed tinkering with anything I could get my hands on. For example I remember a story my aunt told me about, when I was very young about 4 or 5 years old she had a radio that I would listen to occasionally, one day I decided to find out how this machine was making all these noises so I took it apart, apparently no one was watching me because this took me a while to do, but I basically did my best as a five year old to take this thing apart, and by that I meant I broke it. Nonetheless, the point is that I was curious and wanted to explore the things in my surroundings. This concept has carried over to my adult life, and into the Saco. Although I have always been curious about the way things work in my surroundings the Saco offers a different way to explore this curiosity. For example, I would explore the canoe, I wanted to know why it was floating and why it wouldn't sink with multiple people on it. I would experiment with tipping points trying to see how far I could push it and what would happen at the point of it tipping. This interest I had also relates to my major in some way and why I chose it. there are many similarities between the way nature works and how a program works. For example, nature needs to make sense,
The setting is very tranquil and serene; it is also very welcoming and very tempting, how so?
Nature in its tranquility provides a calming sensation away from the buzzing city life. The ability
Mary Shelley uses descriptive word to describe how the peaceful nature helps to soothe him, she says “[he] contemplated the lake; the waters were placid all around was calm, and snowy mountains, the places of nature, were not changed, by degrees the calm and heavenly scene restored me and, [he] continued [his] journey to Geneva” demonstrating that nature helps to relax him from the problems as he returns to Geneva (77). Because Victor was so devoted in his creation of the monster that he began to find comfort that his family has always given him into nature. The beautiful scenery of nature helps Victor forget about the problems he is going through with his family because since Victor Frankenstein all he wants was to have his ambitions complete, he felt as if he has to abandon his family in Geneva because as the novel progresses Victor begins to realize that family should have always come first even before his
The San Joaquin River is the backbone of the San Joaquin Valley. The valley is not only the nation's most agricultural area but it is also one of the entire worlds. Millions depend on the crops that come form this luscious valley. The river has gone through many drastic changes over its illustrious lifetime. Once it was a magnificent 350 miles long it is now one of the nation's ten most endangered rivers. The river once flowed with enough water to support steam ships and a salmon migration it now goes completely dry in some areas. The river does not have enough water to support itself any more and must take in water from various other places, such as the Pacific Ocean which
If you are looking for an outdoor get away in Northern California, a great place to visit is Redding. This small community is located just three hours North of Sacramento.
The environment can have a positive impact on a person’s health. However, in order for that to happen we have to put ourselves in a place where we can get those positive responses. Sternberg explains that everyone needs to heal. Our senses allow us to heal, so nature plays a very important role in our life. We have to go somewhere that feels welcoming to us, somewhere where we can find peace, such as walking through gardens.
For example it’s in Movies, Books, Music, Tvshows, Paintings, Pictures. Nature is really a peaceful and beautiful place to be in because it can relax you and it’s fresh. The sounds of the birds with a nice view is really somewhere you can relax and take your stress out.My personal experience is when i went to Mexico and there was a hill and we climbed over it and there was so many trees and an a little river it was nice and peaceful. The nature now is better and then at times bad because so many people pollute the world and it gets dirty like the waters and rivers get really dirty. But other than that the view is really nice.Just imagining it gets me happy and peaceful because you can just relax there and not
It is accessible and so convenient. Immerse yourself in nature and experience a multitude of unforgettable activities. Ranging from shopping or exploring, relaxing or touring. No doubt, it is a place to experience an ideal adventure of your
Here lies the area where the rising blue sea crashes on to a shore surrounded by huge, wave-worn rocks. Where the sun shines through the skies and radiates the skin of inhabitants who are admiring the beauty of nature. The limestone shoreline fights back by pushing the water back out and creating a enormous splash accompanied by the effect of ocean spray. Some people come here to go snorkeling and explore a whole new world underneath the water, while others come to enjoy the scenic views and are accompanied by loved ones to walk down the vast amount of nature trails. However to me, this is a place where I am allowed to ponder and be away from the noisiness of city life. At Blow Rocks Preserve Beach, I walk along the beach and am instanly relieved
No matter what you do, it is almost impossible to stay upset or stressed. You can go cliff jumping, the cool water rushing all around you, and nothing seems to matter besides floating in the calm lake. When you climb out, the scent of fish and freshwater is all around, in your tangled hair and on your bare arms and legs. Then you can lay out on the beach and soak up the sun while whiffs of cooking burgers float around and the thought of the flavor of juicy, crisp fruit and ice cold bubbly soda make your stomach rumble. Running and hiking over the hills helps you unwind by being in tune with the environment and renewing your energy outside. The resources found at Devil’s Lake assist the visitors like me in having fun and relaxing, such as the lake, the hills, and the beaches.
I grew up living on the coast of the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. I was walking distance to Lindamar Beach and a Bart train ride to Union Square in San Francisco. Going to Chinatown with all of my cousins and my uncles was one of my favorite activities growing up. Running down the street, looking for Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, then later getting a bunch of Fun Snaps, miniature novelty fireworks that make a loud noise when thrown on the pavement. A few years later, my family and I relocated to the East Bay, specifically Antioch. With my Grandma, Aunt, and cousins close by, we would constantly plan family trips to explore. For example, my family would go hiking at Muir Beach or camping at Lake Berryessa in the
As a student in the class, Sustainability and Public Health, I have learned to appreciate the benefits nature has to offer and that everything must be in balance in order to maintain a sustainable society. In order to connect with and experience nature on a different level our class did a walking mediation around the bio pond. I have always believed from the time of birth, almost immediately you become aware of the necessary connection with the outside world by exploring all parts of your new surroundings. However, as years passed I began to feel this connection weaken and it wasn’t until after the walking meditation when I realized how much nature has a positive impact on my overall well-being.
The Orinoco River extends from Venezuela to Colombia. The Orinoco is one of the longest rivers in South America. The Andes Mountains, the Guiana Highlands, and the Amazon watershed. The surroundings of the Orinoco are rainforest, savanna, and plains. The climate of the Orinoco is a tropical rainforest. The seasons in the Orinoco are winter which is rainy and summer which is dry. These seasons are the result of migration of the intertropical convergence zone.
Some people appreciate alone time, but what about if you were isolated from society for years? Being detached from the rest of the world, surrounded by water alone could just release the lunacy embedded in you. It could also transform the way you think or even behave. The novel Kensuke’s Kingdom and movie Castaway demonstrate how you could learn how to appreciate people’s presence more.
The amazing scenery and beautiful combination of senses makes me shiver. As I stand there, I feel the weight of my fishing vest as it gently clings to my torso. I watch the trout calmly swim along the riverbed from boulder to boulder to escape the current. I focus deeply as I begin my back cast before releasing the fly from the gentle bend of my rod. I watch as it floats gently across the surface hoping that a trout surfaces for my fly. Here I experience peace with life, nature, and myself. I think of my deepest thoughts and solve my hardest problems. As the fly reaches the end of the pool, I cast it back to the beginning. I feel completely free: unburdened, free of stress, purely satisfied. No words can truly measure this feeling of perfect calmness and serenity. I'm at home. I'm in my nature. I cast again. The river takes my problems and concerns downstream and out of sight. This is means so much to me. It's priceless. I find the meaning to things I deeply questioned and challenge. I find acceptance and I rid myself of denial. The river helps me escape from my deepest of struggles, from the passing of friends and family to struggles with sports and school. Everything seems to be taken downstream with the current to never be seen
