There have been too many times to count where a horse has taught me a lesson whether it be in the saddle or on the ground. But there are a few horses that have taught me lessons that I'll never forget. Specifically, there was one mare who was named Molly she is a twenty-year-old Saddlebred that was an ex-park horse. Like most stereotypical mares, Molly was more than just challenging to get around with on the ground and in the saddle. Under saddle as soon as you put your foot in the stirrup and pressed any weight into the stirrup you better be prepared to swing your leg over and ride because she was off at the canter or a trot. There was no such thing as a flat walk, nor did you get to choose the gait you rode, it seemed every second of
One week before I was due to show my horse Bender in the county fair, my horse and I were practicing in the pasture when Bender accidentally stepped on a large rock, and stumbled. The next day, Bender was limping. A horse who limps in a show will be disqualified. Optimism instantly had to become a priority of mine if I wanted to heal Bender. I took special care of my horse, and stayed extremely optimistic that we would be able to compete in the upcoming county fair. This optimistic view of my horse's lameness lifted my spirits, and convinced me not to throw in the towel. The day before the fair, Bender had not limped once, so we were able to compete, and we did exceptionally well. Optimism should be a priority because it inspires, brings

Many authors use different styles of writing and different ways to show different things and different types points of views. First, In The Georges and the Jewels, the person telling the story is a little girl and also she is talking about her experiences with horses, whereas in Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse, the article is being told by a horse, and the horse is telling about his life and about all the equipment that has to be used for him.
Owning a horse is a wonderful experience when it comes to riding, shows and many other pleasures associated with horses. There is an aspect of ownership that involves maintenance, which is not always as glamorous as heading out across the countryside for a ride or parading in the horse shows to win a highly recognized prize. Horse care/maintenance is a necessary part of owning a horse and lays the foundation for any equestrian who is well tended to provide the owner with many years of valued service, pleasure riding and many other benefits that are associated with owning a horse.

When a person is lucky, it does not have to mean that they are fortunate with money. Luck is the chance for things to go the way you want them to go with out having any control over the situation. In The Rocking Horse Winner, Hester, the mother seems to believe that luck is strictly having money, and when there is no money, there is no luck. Hester's idea of luck meaning money brings forth the two ideas of greed and death throughout the story.

In a time period where things are evolving and changing, the Author Cormac portrays John Grady as someone living within the old western “cowboy civilization”. Although John Grady is moving into a much progressive era, he would rather engage himself in the life of the land, cattle and that of his passion, the horses. The world John was used to is becoming more modern and although he is not blind, he is unwilling to give up the past and accept the present. Grady still embraced his desire to be a true cowboy even in his journey to Mexico he attempted to act on that philosophy but the new time and his experiences came to a fore front as he was forced to mature and to proceed through life abiding by the new rules before him.
To thoroughbred horse racing fans, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia is the place to go this winter. The Park offers live horse racing in the backdrop of the magnificent San Gabriel Mountains. When the horses run toward the finish line, the fans roar urging their favorite horse to edge ahead and win. After a race, fans with winning tickets are showing exhilaration by
The article focused on the formation of Native American consciousness through five personal themes unique to each individual. The five themes are as listed: “Native American language and culture, validity of one's genealogy, adoption of Native American world perspective that aligns with traditional native American customs, one's self concept as a Native American, and enrollment or not in a tribe.” (Horse, 2005, p. 65) Throughout the article horse starts to discuss the oppressive history of Native American groups in the United States and the socio-cultural conflicts that Native American culture have had with “White” mainstream culture. The legal status and cultural change provided an in depth look of how different
When I was twelve years old, I learned that horses do not like me. My friend Molly and I went to Camp Ernst the summer before seventh grade during Christmas in July week. We didn’t know anyone else there, so we got stuck in a cabin with a bunch of snobby Milford girls. Molly really wanted to do the horse camp, so I did it too because I didn’t want to be alone with the other girls. I wasn’t really into horses but Molly was so I decided to take one for the team.
This year I got over my fear of horses. For my fifteenth birthday my aunt got me four weeks of horseback riding lessons. My lesson horses name was Skyjet. At first I was terrified of the horse and how big it was, but really it was one of the smallest ones there. I learned how to groom the horse on put all the gear on it. I learned how to 5-star which is when you go into a squat forward leaning position and stay like that, I learned how to post which is kind of like doing squats but instead of going down you are going up, also how to get the horse to trot and stop. To trot you say trot on kick the horse's side until it does. To stop you pull the reigns to you and release when they stop.
The art of breaking a horse, really just depends on the horse and rider. Before you ever ride, or tack up your horse, you always have to know if the horse is ready, willing, and responsive to you on the ground, then you can start. If he or she is not willing or responsive to you when you are on the ground, he or she will not respect you when you are riding. Make sure the horse knows the terms walk, trot, canter, and whoa, or any terms you use in replace of walk, trot, or woah, it will be a lot easier for you, and the horse will understand more. To make sure your horse is responsive to you on the ground is to make sure you spend a lot of time with your horse. Examples of what you should do is to groom your horse every day, walk him or
Bang my eyes opened as I leaped out of bed. I ran at full speed to my brother's room and woke Miguel up and screamed Happy Birthday to him. We went and changed and went on our iPads before our parents woke up. It was all a hurry as we looked like buzzing bees zooming through the house, at around 10 past 9 we ran out of the house full of eager and excitement. Sitting in the car, we drove along streets, highways and whinny roads but when I though we would ever make it to the horse riding we reached. I hopped out of the car ready to get on the Horse but realised the first group wasn't back yet. The three of us played basketball, got a helmet and got ready.
Ever since I was a child I knew that I wanted to work with animals. Horses, in particular, have always fascinated me. After much begging, pleading, years of convincing, and always working hard to save up money, I convinced my parents to allow me to buy a horse. To me, Indie was the most beautiful quarter horse I could have ever dreamed of getting. Since our purchase of Indie, we have acquired another horse, Sherman, and a pony, Tucker. Although the horses have always been hard work, they were worth every sweaty hot summer evening of mucking out the stalls and frigid winter mornings of carrying water to the trough in order to avoid freezing our hoses. After all, I used to dream of being a veterinarian and helping all kinds of animals in some way.
