Introduction
The aim of this assignment is to portray knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Safety and Health while working as a nurse in a hospital environment. All employees must comply and familiarise themselves with legislation and acts. These acts include The Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 and The manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992. Employers must “ Ensure the safety, health and welfare at work of his or her employees, manage and conduct work activities in such a way as to ensure the safety, health and welfare at work of all employees, manage and conduct work activities in such a way as to prevent any improper conduct or behaviour likely to endanger employees, provide information, instruction, training and supervision, …show more content…

Roles of employees should include: “to comply with relevant laws and protect their own safety and health, as well as the safety and health of anyone who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work, ensure that they are not under the influence of any intoxicant to the extent that they could be a danger to themselves or others while at work, cooperate with their employer with regard to safety, health and welfare at work, not engage in any improper conduct that could endanger their own safety or health or that of anyone else, participate in safety and health training offered by their employer, make proper use of all machinery, tools, substances, etc. and of all Personal Protected Equipment provided for use at work and report any defects in the place of work, equipment, etc. which might endanger safety and health.” (Hsa, 2015). “The Nurses and Midwives Act 2011 was signed into legislation on 21 December 2011. The Planning and Development Department of The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) is currently identifying all projects to be undertaken in order to implement the provisions of the Act.
