Kroger and Safeway belong to the supermarket industry. In the supermarket industry, the business environment is quite competitive. Besides the traditional grocers, there are now many different types of retailers all fighting to obtain a share of the food wallet. Customers have a huge selection of where to buy their groceries. Not only do the customers have the choice to pick supermarkets around the neighborhood, they also have the option to shop at alternative retailers, such as national discount chains and warehouse stores. From an operating perspective, supermarkets are a homogenous group, meaning similar to each other. Factors that contribute to the differences among the supermarket are geography and store formats. The supermarket industry is faced with the challenges of maintaining market share and profits while attempting new strategies and store formats in an effort of trying to make the store stand out from the other retailers. Major demographic and consumer lifestyle changes have affected not only how consumers shop but also where they shop. Traditional supermarkets have been in a decline since shoppers now spend less and how frequently they shop in a particular store. While some supermarket operators continue to attempt to cut costs so they can offer reduced everyday prices, they find this to be a tough approach when competing with low cost operators like Wal-Mart and Costco.

Currently I am employed with a company that some may say is the 'melting pot' of diversity. Working for Corporate Safeway, now Albertsons-Safeway, I can appreciate how judgement free the environment is in our work place. They are open to hiring minorities, LGBT, (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender), disabled veterans and that's just to name a few. Hiring a staff that is of many different cultures, nationalities and belief backgrounds is a great way to show the awareness of diversity. I am a true believer that a great business starts at the top. If management can provide their employees with the skills and knowledge of working in a diverse setting this will lead to a steady and smooth work environment. Knowing how to properly and correctly carry yourself is the first step in working with the different variety of customers or co-workers you may encounter.
Costco’s business model is to generate high-volume sales and rapid inventory turnover by offering low prices on a limited set selection of brands and a few selected privately labeled products. This model does not turn a profit on its own with the company operating slightly below its break-even cost. However, to make up for this Costco charges a membership fee and this is a simple way of padding their profit but also enabling them to provide a customer experience that emphasizes value.

Much of Golden Valley’s management staff comes from their parent company with the previous president saying “The influence of our old parent company is still with us. The role of crime scene investigator is the most challenging and complicated, albeit the roles of the criminalist and responding officers cannot be taken for granted. The investigator here is like a supervisor – s/he supervises the investigation, or how each part of the evidence connects with the other parts, and in collaboration with the responding officers and criminalist try to re-enact the scene. It appears at first glance that the victims were raped before they were killed; the scenes were blood stained or turned into a mess, and then the suspects turned away, realizing what they had done, or content of what had just occurred.
1. Evaluate Family Dollar’s retail strategy. Will it work in both good and bad economic times?
“Brrrring” rang the alarm. When I woke up I had to take a shower. I woke up around 7:30am just before my grandma came to pick us up(my brother Chris, sister Megan, My mom, and I). We were going to Florida to go down to Disney. All of us are riding in two airplanes down to Disney, and this will be my first plane ride that I went on. My grandma picked us up at our house and the airport is an hour away from us. When we got to the airport it didn’t take long to get through the security to the wait room before we had to go on the airplane. We waited for about an hour for it to arrive and be al set to go.
