Caraway plants are actually a member of the carrot family, related also to coriander and cumin. It's native to central Europe and then spread to other parts of Europe, the Middle East, and the Mediterranean. Both the roots and the seeds are edible. Strongly aromatic, Caraway is a member in the parsley or Umbelliferae family; a large family of plants that also includes commonly known herbs and spices such as dill, anise,fennel, cumin, etc. They retain a distinctive earthy anise flavor, packing a lot of punch for such tiny little seeds.
