This will help them determine whether to expand into a private cloud or a non-cloud. The new Salesforce would place more emphasis on cloud computing, grouping products into three types of clouds: the Sales Cloud, the Service Cloud, and the Custom Cloud. The Sales and Service clouds consist of applications meant to improve sales and customer service, respectively, but the Custom Cloud would be a development platform, where customers could create their own applications for use within the Salesforce network. In a typical enterprise-to-cloud migration process, a corporation would identify candidate components based on drivers such as business continuity, scalability or lower overall cost of ownership. The selection of cloud vendor then requires moving service components such as database, application servers, ESBs, and identity stores to the cloud environment. Once a full reference system is deployed in the cloud, the behavior of the enterprise application interacting with the cloud-based components has to be tested. Testing a reference system deployed in the cloud with an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) provider enables an enterprise to evaluate the class of servers, memory, central processing unit (CPU) and storage behavior in a multi-tenant environment.
