Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you were very distant from home and your family? In Linda Sue Park’s novel, A Long Walk to Water, is based on a true story Salva Dut, who was a Lost Boy. Salva and his family live in Southern Sudan, in a village called Loun- Ariik. Sally tells Harry it was a mistake, and Harry agrees. Sally is then upset by this and gets mad. They drift apart for a while. They both miss one another. I read the book, Red Queen, by Victoria Aveyard. The book was published in New York from Harpercollins in the year 2015. The book has 383 pages. I’ve never read a book by Victoria Aveyard before, I enjoyed the book quite a lot. The book is fiction and it’s both action and romance. The title sparked my interest because I wanted to know what they meant by red queen. On the cover there’s a little quote that says “Power is a dangerous game”. The artwork on the cover is an upside down crown with red blood dripping down.
Trapped in a world of cold, snow and grey waters, a blue sky warm air and crystal clear waters sounds pretty nice. In Melissa Del La Cruz’s and Michael Johnston’s book Frozen, Nat, a girl with mysterious powers, is hoping to escape from the cold in New Vegas into the paradise known as the Blue. Set in a future where the whole world is covered in ice and snow, and people like Nat, the Mages or marked, those with powers, are not welcome. Nat and a rag-tag team of mercenaries try to escape to the mysterious Blue where rumor has it there is green grass and a sun in the sky. Frozen is a riveting story of the treacherous journey Nat takes and the things she discovers along the way.
Mothers are pictured as the care giver of the families and the ones who love their children unconditionally no matter the situation. They’ll do anything to support their family and raise their children right. In “The Queen of Mold” by Ruth Reichl, the mother in the story is pictured as the one who makes a meal almost out of nothing, just to provide and have something on the table for her family. Even though the food she cooks is moldy, this is how she demonstrates her motherly love.. In “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker, the mother is portrayed at first as an over excited mother waiting for her over achieving daughter Dee. As the story progresses the excitement for the daughter starts to go away and her motherly love towards Dee becomes complicated because Dee thinks she is greater and much smarter than the rest. Both of the stories depict complex motherhood, in Reichl story her mother’s love becomes complicated when she cooks food for the guest and her daughter tries to save the guest from being killed, while by the end of Walker story she only has love for the one daughter that has always been by her side and that’s Maggie.

#1. The sin of Hester was her commitment of adultery. This is the reason of the scarlet letter on her clothing. She takes all the punishment that is given to her for her crime and does not falter with what is right from wrong. Although all of the townspeople know of her crime, she refuses to tell with whom she committed the crime with and who she has hurt in the process. She does not talk about Chillingworth, her actual husband, or Dimmesdale, her true love. This affects not only her, but also her daughter, Pearl. Pearl does not understand the concept of the scarlet letter and she is very straightforward with her mother. Hester's sin affect how she lives her life for much of her life. She had to live being scrutinized by society. She didn’t
The Things They Carried is a collection of fictional stories inspired by Tim O’Brien’s time in the Vietnam War and the struggles young men had to face in one of the most controversial wars in U.S. history. After the Vietnam War was over, when the veterans came home, most of which were drafted, they shunned by the American public for fighting a war in which many did not support and many veterans were homeless due to the lack of support from the government. Therefore, O’Brien uses these stories to not only have a deeper meaning and understanding of what the soldiers had to endure (both during and after the war), yet to also keep the dead alive by telling their stories. To do so, Tim O’Brien effectively
My goal with my research is to look into the resistance of both the Jewish people and the others in European society who assisted in Jewish escapes. The perceived image of the Jews during the Holocaust is of “lambs to the slaughter.” The pictured painted of the rest of European society is one of either knowing accomplices or silent spectators. The Jewish people had many forms of resistance, some small and some large. While many of their neighbors were silent spectators, but many people were actively resisting the tyrannical Nazi government by assisting Jewish escapes. Each of these individuals risked their lives and the lives of their families and friends to aid these hunted individuals. They all deserve to have their stories heard and honored. In a time of complete chaos and destruction many people would not have the ability or fortitude to save the life of another person. The people that I will discuss in this paper were not only able to take that step, but put themselves and their families in real and eminent danger for the life, at times, of a complete stranger.
Queen of the Falls is a biography of Annie Edson Taylor, the first person to take on the Niagara Falls inside of a barrel. The author (Chris Van Allsburg) presents a 62-year old woman Annie Edson Taylor as the main character of the book. The story has been told from the point of view of an elderly woman named Annie Edson Taylor who was “a retired charm school instructor who was seeking for fame and fortune”. She said to herself, worried about her future, “I might end up in a poor house where old people don’t have any money or a family.” After that, she decided to do something no one in the world had ever done, she, “Annie Edson Taylor would go over Niagara Falls in a wooden barrel that she made all by herself.
Claire Standish or “the princess” portrays the stereotypical popular teenage girl in The Breakfast Club. She is in detention with everyone else because she decided to skip class and go shopping, which also plays into the stereotypical teen girl image. It can also be assumed that she is spoiled and rich since her father tried to get her out of detention but failed, and she mentions to the group that her parents only use her to get back at the other one. She brings a fancy lunch of sushi while the other teens either have nothing or the standard lunch one’s parents might pack for them. There are a couple of times in the movie that she brings up her social standing and could even be considered as looking down on those who are not as popular as her. Even closer towards the end of the movie she informs the others that if they were to say hello to her in the hallway in front of her friends, she would have no choice but to ignore them. By the end of the movie, she has opened up to everyone else about her fears of letting her peers down and has formed a close relationship with Bender.
The thesis of the film “Chasing Ice” is to portray the extreme climate change we are facing today. The film has a clear goal of showing visually the danger we are causing our planet by denying climate change. The aim of the film is to show us visually that climate change does exist and it is happening at a rapid rate. The film does a good job at providing evidence that climate change is happening, by capturing footage of the changes occurring over short periods of time. These videos captured by James Balog’s recording devices make it almost impossible to deny climate change and that is precisely the purpose of the film.
