After flowing 9 miles the Wakulla River joins the St. Marks River. The St. Marks River then empties out into the Gulf of Mexico at the Apalachee Bay. Part of the Wakulla Springs water system is the Wakulla underwater cave system. The Wakulla- Leo Sink cave system is the longest underwater cave system in the United States (Friends of Wakulla Springs).
