I am against the idea of same sex marriage as I have very strong religious beliefs which have shaped me into what I am today and that give me a majority of my reason opposing this matter. I had many long arguments with a bunch of people, including gays and lesbians, about this topic. I can truthfully say that it is because of topics like this that make Gerald M. Nosich’s quote “the relation between emotion and critical thinking is a complicated one, without easy solutions” (Nosich 16) very relatable. In my opinion, “same sex marriage” should not be legalised as this is against what is written in the Bible. This kind of practice will also affect our future generations and the concept of marriage.
1.From a religious point of view, do you think “same sex marriage” is appropriate?
2.How can it affect our future generations?
3.How does this affect the concept of marriage?
I believe that “same sex marriage” should not be legalised because this is abomination in the sight of God and abomination is a sin. This also can affect our future generations because if a man is married to a man, and the same with women, then we all know that they won’t be able to make a child and that will lessen the population. If ever they would adopt a child, it’s going to be unfair to the child because we all know that the child would want to have a mother or a father. God created Adam as a male and Eve as a female. Marriage is an important issue in Christian life. Christians claim that marriage
While it is not a personal choice for me, I see it best to support it for those who make that choice. In the Constitution marriage is not defined as the unity between a man and women, but the unity of two persons. As long as those two persons are both legal citizens of the United States then they should have full protection under the Constitution. This would include their fundamental right to marriage. Same-sex should be seen equal to opposite-sex marriage because the standards are no different. Just like in the case of Loving v Virginia, once you take away the factor of race or sexuality, you are left with the same principal foundations as you are of a hetero-sexual couple. Therefore it would be an act of discrimination to deny legal marriage to same-sex partners. Some will argue that the Bible defines marriage as between a man and women, and while that is true, it is not recognized by the court. Because it is stated in a religious doctrine and the United States has freedom of religion, this point can not be made legal valid in any situation and therefore is irrelevant. Another argument also commonly made in opposition to same-sex marriage is that its legality is within the power of the states and not the national government. While the power to issue marriage licenses is given to the state, that's not all that the case argues. It argues that
Gay marriage has been an issue for a very long time and since some states are legalizing it, many worry that it would soon be added as an amendment. The topic of gay marriage brings up religious, legal, and many other issues. In "What's wrong with Gay Marriage?" by Katha Pollitt, the author supports gay marriage and wants it legalized. She states that there is no problem with gay marriage and it's all a matter of separating the church and state. But in “Gay ‘Marriage’: Societal Suicide,” by Charles Colson, the author opposes the idea of gay marriage and states that it will destroy society. Marriage is intended to unite a man and a woman together to bring children into the world, but due to the same-sex marriage,
Lately there has been a great deal of discussion over legalising same sex marriage. To some people; there is no problem with it. However this is a controversial matter and there is still a great deal of debate ongoing in some countries, including this one, whether homosexual couples should continue to be denied the rights that straight couples enjoy. There is no reason why homosexuals relationships should be differentiated in any way from heterosexual ones. Homosexuality isn 't a choice. Any intolerance in our society concerning something someone cannot control, where no harm is caused, is not only ludicrous but also a form of discrimination. There is
Those that are oppose same sex marriage focus their reasoning on religious beliefs. Same sex couples do not want to be treated as second class citizens, they do not focus on what religion states; they just want to be treated as equal as heterosexuals when it comes to their right. Same sex couples believe if one is to bar any class of people from marrying whomever they choose, it then deprives them of their social institution; that many feel defines the most meaningful part of life, to marry someone one loves. Same sex couples believe that their relationships are no different than that of a heterosexual marriage. Same sex couples can have maintain a home together, provide an environment that children can thrive in and care for each other the same as heterosexual married couples do (Goldberg-Hiller, 2002).
I think one of the most important rights of same-sex marriage is love. Marriage conveys the love, commitment, and emotional bond needed in a relationship; therefore, gay marriage, too, conveys the true meaning of love since a gay/lesbian person gets to marry the person they love. Love is a universal feeling; therefore, the need of feeling loved and accepted in society are feelings that all of us humans share in common. Society must not define who you get to love or marry since the love between two people of the same gender is precisely as tangible and unquestionable as the love between any married couple. I strongly believe that legalizing gay marriage adds not only a sentimental value but also a legal status to same-sex relationships. Now that gay marriage has been legalized more gay couples feel that they will be less likely to be judge by society as individuals who cannot commit to a long lasting relationship. Even though same-sex marriage was recently allowed in the United States, it will help future gay and lesbian generations. The GLBT community will no longer have to hide their love for each other, society will be less likely to discriminate and judge whenever they see a gay or lesbian couple holding hands and most importantly there will be less GLBT people committing suicide. Moreover, no religion should dictate who receives a civil union license because I believe that God sees no color, race,
Nowadays, the same-sex couples have the right to marry under the constitution, just like any the straight couples, however, on the other hand, the opponents have different beliefs. Most their objection comes from religiosity and conservative backlash. These people believe that a real marriage is between a man and a women, if it comes from two people with same gender, it does not only destroy the norm of traditional marriage and violates natural law, but also oppose the Bible. However, the marriage definition is not about making sex, because it is totally about love. Both the traditional marriage and same-sex marriage are beyond the different religions, philosophies, education levels, financial backgrounds, careers, passions, hobbies, skin colors, so if people love someone enough, they should have the right to marry the one they love. In addition, the same-sex marriage does not against any religions, because all of religions spread
The debate on whether or not homosexuals should be allowed to marry has been ongoing for quite a long period of time. While quite a number of viewpoints have been advanced in support of gay marriage, there are those who feel that legalizing the same would be wrong from both a moral and spiritual perspective. Currently, homosexual marriages are illegal in a majority of states. Although the debate on whether or not gay marriage should be legalized persists, I am of the opinion that legalizing the same would cause damage to both our moral and spiritual fabric.
Should same sex marriage be legalized in the United States? In some of our states laws have already been passed to allow same sex couples the freedom to get married, while other states are still resisting for one reason or another. As with everything else there is more than one side, more than one argument supporting and more than one argument resisting the changes being proposed. There are religious reasons, moral reasons, constitutional reasons and financial reasons being used by both sides and the debate seems to get nowhere. For every argument for the issue there is always an argument against it. I have my own opinion about the issue, however I will look at the arguments themselves on each side to identify which side has
The United States was founded on a grand ideal of social freedom. The U.S. Constitution was put into place to protect the rights of the individual by creating a fair and just society. These values of liberty resound for most Americans as assurance that they will never wake up to find they have lost their voice to an all-powerful oligarchy. Americans like to believe they live in what they call “the land of the free.” Of course, we know from the history of the country, the definition of freedom is a controversial topic. Even when the Constitution clearly states, “all men are created equal,” the topic of social equality is what has divided the country in many debates of the meaning of freedom. For the past decade or so, the topic of same-sex
Same sex relationships relate to when a man or woman are attracted to someone of the same gender of themselves. It is being rejected as same gender marriage denies the obvious purpose between a man and a women which is procreation (Richardson-Self, 2012). Denying same sex couples the legal right to get married, could mean that they are being denied their basic human rights to enjoy human benefits (Richardson-Self, 2012). However, the opposing view is that if gay marriage was granted the legal rights of marriage, it will threaten the stability of the traditional meaning of family. A lot of society view gay and lesbians as being immoral due to traditional beliefs that marriage in society should only be between a man and a woman. Therefore, gay movement towards marriage equality aims at ensuring all humans receive full human rights (Edwards, 2007). Majority of religions are against same-sex marriage as they believe it is immoral behaviour, and if it was to be legalised the church would take offence as it marriage is supposed to be holy and ordained by God (Edwards, 2007).
Everyone knows what marriage is. One either saw one, participated in one or had one. The constitution of marriage is something that has existed for as long as men can remember. Marriage is a celebration, something, both men and women, look forward to since they are children. The general idea about marriage is that it includes a man and a woman, but what about same-sex marriage? Everything changes as time goes by: cars, phones, televisions, etc., therefore the idea of marriage must change as well. Same-sex marriage needs to be legalized all over the world. Same-sex marriage legalization can only do good in our society. This will promote a non-discriminative and equal society, protect families and their children and strengthen International reputation. Unfortunately, many will not agree and state that same-sex marriage weakens the institution of marriage, that it can emotionally damage children and can have negative consequences on religious liberties.
Gay marriage should be allowed nobody is perfect. In this world we all have the ability to love somebody. We shouldn’t judge others, all of us are human beings just because we don’t like a man or women of our kind. Each one of us that are homosexuals or lesbians or gays. Doesn’t mean that we can’t have the same things as men and women some people believe that same sex marriage is against their morals and their religious won’t accept it. Gay marriage should be allowed because the government shouldn’t interfere with people’s personal life, same-sex marriage deserves the same benefits of marriage as any other couple, however, the opposing side believes same-sex marriage is against their morals and religious beliefs; A
In today’s society there are certain stereotypically people that are uninterested in gay or lesbian marriage. Everyone should have the right to decide on who they would like to marry. Gay marriage should be legal and a non-punishable offense because it can prevent teenage suicides, more children will be adopted, and people will not feel like second-class citizens.
The concept of marriage is in danger of being misunderstood due to same-sex couples wanting to be married and acquire the same benefits as heterosexual marriages. The fundamental purpose of marriage is uniting a man and a woman in a worthy cause to preserve human civilization. If everyone was homosexual, then how could our species be repeatedly produced? This problem could end human existence. Besides, even those who are not homosexual have restrictions on marriage so they can not assume they are being discriminated upon. Restrictions are created to keep the balance and concept of the idea from being muddled. Their sexual orientation has nothing to do with why these rules were put into place. As a result, homosexual individuals have the right to marry along with everyone else as long as the restrictions are not crossed. All rights are equal among the people even when dealing with marriage. Just because somebody has different
As we know, same-sex marriage has been a prominent issue that has so many arguments not just in the United States, but around the world over many years now. There is absolutely nothing more controversial than same-sex marriage in gay rights topic. Everyone has different opinions about same-sex marriage whether it should be legal or not. We now have to consider two aspects that are moral and religious. These two form a fundamental belief that same-sex couples and opposite-sex couples are different. Based on the definition of marriage, the view of religion, bad effects to children, and the lifestyle that should not be encouraged; therefore, the government should not legalize the same-sex marriage.
