I am currently a Kindergarten teacher at Our Lady of Trust Academy. Although it is a wonderful private institution, my goal is to teach at a public school. When I am developing units plans, I ensure that all my lessons are deeply infused with the Common Core learning standards. I am also a firm believer in incorporating differentiated instruction. I am able to differentiate through analyzing test results. From those results, I design tiered assignments to give students the appropriate level of material to complete. I deem it is important to know all of my students as individuals. When planning, my students interest and learning styles are taken into consideration. I have also enhanced the phonics based reading program, by infusing whole language learning. I enjoy creating hands on centers such as sensory bin dig, book box, and egg addition. When I find that students are having difficulty, I reach out to my colleagues for ideas. I especially do so for my students with IEP's. One of my primary objectives for returning to school is to explore other ideas, perspectives and approaches. I want to discover and understand alternative processes, in addition to, examining conventional and traditional social infrastructures. I’ve held various positions throughout my life journey and I’ve learned to glean the positive aspects and facets from every position. My personal history has offered me many experiences and enhances my observations and perspectives, as well as, genuinely enriches my appreciation for exploring. During my first five years of practice, I want my roles to be that of helper, educator, professional, and researcher. As I progress through the profession, I will be assisting clients in accomplishing their goals while educating them in ways to do so effectively in a professional manner. In congruence with this, I also hope to do neurological research on individuals with neurological conditions and sensory integration of premature infants.
Certain I want to work with neurologically impaired children with a training in pediatric neurology targeting cognitive, behavioral developmental disorders, my residency interests are to concentrate on pediatric developmental difficulties and neurological maladies created by innumerable unknowns: a long underserved, complex arena with multiple intersecting facets.
The University of Michigan offers a myriad of options for underclassmen to fulfill their goals. From the School of Kinesiology to Nursing and everything in between, it can be downright overwhelming. As an undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico I have become increasingly aware of the complex network problems that I face as a citizen of the world. Going into the teaching profession has been my passion for quite some time now. Although teaching can have many different stereotypes and misconceptions, I still choose to continue towards this career. Every job has it’s own stereotypes and misconceptions. I currently work at a school, which has offered me a lot of on the job training for my future career. My current job has allowed me to see the different stereotypes and misconceptions that come along with the teaching career field. I grew up alongside the wild Rocky Mountain Columbines, where the air is crisp and the winters are long. I spent my time engaging in the arts such as acting, writing, and creating. From a young age I was drawn to the world of imagination and found happiness through producing art. We all face and over come challenges within our lives and whenever I am faced with hardship I find comfort in visually expressing myself.
I believe that education is the key in developing today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders. Education is the basis on which individuals develop their self-concept and the desire to become more knowledgeable. I want to become an educator because I am interested in helping elementary students become active learners and also to assist with their social skills. I always thought I would be a teacher and I would make differences in lives and it would be the greatest experience in the world for me, yet being a teacher wasn’t enough, I had a need to expand my education. I decided that perhaps I needed a new career, however, I felt certain education remained my passion. I began to explore new areas of education and I realized I still want to be a member of a classroom, a school and curriculum. I aspire to guide those leading our classrooms.
I have had a lifetime goal to attend college, it just didn’t happen early in life. When I first came to CCU, there was no doubt that getting my bachelors in early childhood would be my major. My passion has always been young children. It started when I babysat as a young teenager and has continued in my life as a preschool teacher. Education is constantly changing: therefore, I feel I need to have more knowledge and wisdom to be the best teacher possible. Education is by far one of the most important tools to have a successful life. With diligence, I want to be a leading educator and to be a gateway for my students to learn. It’s exhilarating how many lives a teacher will touch each day. A teacher has the power to reach out and make learning a positive and memorable experience for every child. Furthermore, teachers are one of the first caregivers for young children. Although I am not at the beginning of my career, while at CCU, I will grow in faith, help and learn from others, and strive to graduate with honors.
Coming from a family of educators, I have always been aware of the love and importance of learning. Growing up I thought I wanted to be a Marine Biologist and was even accepted at Coastal Carolina to study this field. After much deliberation, I realized that what I really wanted to do was teach. In high school, I had the opportunity to work with children through the Eagle’s Nest Club and my Spanish class and knew this is what I wanted to do. My opportunities through these two organizations gave me experience with elementary students. This is what I have chosen to do. I plan to pursue a degree in elementary education and add certification for pre-k and special education.
Becoming an educator is very important to me. Not only am I building a relationship with children, but I am also building their brains for success. Attending school helps build my future career path and gives me the understanding of children. The position in education I would like to have is becoming a first-grade teacher working at an elementary school. The school I plan to work for is a public school meaning students are acknowledge for their independence. In this school environment, it has a lot of excitement and motivation. I have visited the school many times, and it makes you feel like you are at home. This school also provides after-care for students who needs to be watched while their parents are at work or doing something important. The after care at the school provides free tutoring, educational games, and a snack. While furthering my investigation on this career, I feel this job is a good fit for me because it provides motivation and it acknowledges you as a person. It helps provide all the satisfaction needed and more. The staff is well mannered and the facility is always clean.
As a child growing up, I have dreamed about becoming a doctor, a lawyer, and even a chef! Today as a young adult I have encountered what we call life; memorable events, both good and unpleasant has caused me to reflect upon my career. Countless times I have heard people talk down on city schools, students, and teacher. Growing up in one of the most unsatisfactory school districts in the nation, I have learned all the negative talk is not true. I have decided to become a teacher because I want to help the next generations to come; I want to make a difference.
When I graduate from college, I aspire to instruct elementary school where I would have the ability to mold young students to have strength, intelligence, and optimism similar to mine and embrace the world as it is yet also embrace the “formidable” transitions as well instead of fearing both. I would evoke tenacious character traits out of each and every student to encourage him or her to succeed and progress far in life with elevated standards for him or herself. While this career lends itself to a more valuable experience, it does not entail the same value monetarily. Teaching would allow me to be rich in the heart not in the pocket, but I am not pursuing this career for that particular reason. I pursue it for the reasons listed above.
