My interest in biology began in secondary school. I remember being fascinated once I finally understood what makes us tick; chromosomes. Suddenly it all made sense- at least to the degree I could understand. The sheer joy I experienced whilst learning about the basics of life itself only fuelled my desire to know more.
Death is an ever present inevitability. I hope to explore it and eventually find a way to delay even further. However in order to do that I'll need to find out what causes death and how to prevent it. My desire to procrastinate death is what lead me to diagnosis and disease. Biomedical scientists are at the forefront of tackling disease and their new discoveries will continue to pave the way for future medicine. What we've yet to discover about the fragility of human life is a captivating incentive to press forward in my studies.
Whilst studying A level biology I found my thirst for knowledge of the human body quenched. I couldn't decide which aspect I found most interesting, but learning about human behaviour seemed to spark the same interest that I had experienced in secondary school. Unbeknownst to me my desire to keep up to date with medical news made me even more suited for biomedical science. I also think the skills I acquired in A level biology and chemistry, specifically lab skills, increase my suitability for the course. I'm familiar with chemistry lab equipment and also microscopes, including various staining techniques. Whilst studying A level chemistry my statistical and analytical skills greatly improved. Using equations, graphs and drawing conclusions from presented data has further prepared me to study biomedical
