We are applying to Pub Charity Limited, seeking help to bring an amenity to the Kaimai area that encourages a more active lifestyle and helps bring the community together by building a Community Skate Park. Kaimai School is situated about 20 kilometres out of Tauranga and is one of the main hubs of the Kaimai Community. The local hall is situated on the school grounds and the annual Kaimai Settlers Picnic is held at Kaimai School using the school equipment. It is frequented by many people in the weekend using our vast grounds, tennis courts and playgrounds. The turning area outside the front of the school is used by many people as a stopping point on their way over the Kaimai Ranges. Richard Smith, of Rich Landscapes is an award winning Landscape Architecture Company with extensive experience in Skatepark Design and Consultancy, Play Environments, Residential, Commercial, Educational and Public Landscapes, VR Design, 3D Modelling, Printing and Visualisation Services. Richard's work is international with his park designs having been built in Australia and China. Richard Smith has received awards from the Ellerslie Flower Show to the New Zealand Institute of Landscape Architects Resene Pride of Place Awards demonstrating his ability to design and create quality spaces. After consultation with the students and community we went for a more compact skate park design with a multiple pump track that runs between the main drop-in back and miniramp that run parallel to each other. This allows the pump tracks to be used as one course, riding each ribbon and turning around on the banks at either end or if there are a lot of users separating into 2 lines of movement allowing multiple users to use at the same time. There is also connection with the miniramp and flat street area. The miniramp is a nice size for learning and provides a turnaround at one end of the flat ‘street’ area. The drop-in bank also extends right across turning users around or circulating them into different areas of the facility.
