This will encourage the students to think independently about what they learned previously in the lesson. Formal: Each student will complete a worksheet with 15 questions on comparing fraction on it. This will assess their ability to compare fractions with like denominators and like numerators. The students need to receive a score of 11 out of 15 to show an 83% mastery of the skill. The first three questions will be bonus questions dealing with to assess higher learning connections. The last three questions will deal with musical notation to assess what the students have learned in regards to notation and fraction similarities. Materials • 22 sets of 6 fraction strips (3 for fractions, 3 for musical notes) • 22 less than, greater than, equal to cards • 22 sets of sheet music for examples • Smartboard – Use for visuals of musical notes and fractions • 22 dark colored markers • 22 Pencils • 22 assessment sheets • Example of fraction strip: Arts Integration Activity: Introduction 1. What is the name of your arts activity? How will you introduce this arts activity in your lesson? Name of activity: Musical Fractions a. The teacher will play the music from the simple sheet music for the students to gain their interest. Students will be asked why the music they listened to might have something to do with math. The teacher will explain that even music can have something to do with math. The teacher will use the Smartboard to show a blown up version of the sheet
