It is currently 8 o’clock on a chilly Tuesday morning. I’m sitting in the schools library making a new to-do list for this week. Most of the students I know are still in bed sleeping, which of course I wish I could be doing too. However, as weeks are long and the days are shorter, there is much to be done in such little time. For me, I like to get ahead of the ball game so I’m not in a sticky situation in the end. I believe the best way to success is having a plan and then sticking on the right path to get there. That is how I manage everything I do.
John Wooden once said, “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming.” I believe I deserve this scholarship because I work hard and put my best effort in everything I do. It is not whether I become the next president of the United States or get that leading role in an upcoming movie. It is the fact that by working hard and never giving up that anything is possible. Throughout my life I can honestly say that I have never gotten anything handed to me, and that has made me the person I am today.

I plan to purse a career being a neonatal nurse upon graduation in May 2018. Education is by far the most important thing in my life. Coming from a town were many people don’t get the opportunity to go to a 4-year college, I am honored that I get that opportunity. I will be enrolled full time as I was last year while I maintained a 3.94 GPA. Not only was I on the Deans List the first semester, I was also on the Chancellors List second semester. This past fall semester, I was on the Chancellors list again and plan to maintain that standing this coming spring semester. I have applied to the upper division of the nursing program and my goal is to get admitted so that I can fulfill my dream of being a neonatal
I deserve this scholarship because I am hard working and it wouldn’t be a waste of money on some dumb teenager and because my parents don’t have a lot of money, but I also deserve it because I want to go to college to be a police officer and protect the american people, change how police officers are looked at and so I can serve justice to people who deserve
“Amanda Clark’s phone conversation came to an abrupt end when her Chevrolet Trailblazer rolled three times before landing on its roof. She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by another driver. Metal caved in around her, but the roof stayed intact and she survived with just scrapes and bruises” (Tracy). Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn’t as lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away and focus on driving. Clark’s Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, “I thought this would be a wakeup call for her, and it was for a short time she wouldn’t talk on the phone, she was more cautious. But she got more confident in her driving and a sense of ‘Hey, I survived one, I’m invincible, nothing is going to happen to me now’” (Tracy). A year after her accident, Clark was driving on a highway. She
Byran Hogeveen argues that the Canadian youth justice system is centered around ‘vengeance as justice’ concept. Vengeance is an act of taking the law into one’s hand and gives a punishment for a person who had done something wrong. It does not care if the result of punishment will in turn, change a person’s behavior. The aim of vengeance is to make the punished person suffer as his victim did. But how is vengeance related to Canadian youth justice system? The youth justice system promotes a tougher punishment and prioritized public safety, rather than youth’s need (Kramer, 2011). It solves the youth’s problem by sending youth to detention facility rather than looks at the real issue behind youth’s problem. As mentioned by Hogeveen, it is injustice in the justice system.
I strongly believe that I deserve the “Courage to Grow” Scholarship, because not only am I a dedicated and hardworking growing young adult, but I also incorporate those traits to what I value the most, school. Ever since I started school, I have worked hard to where I am now. I have a 3.8 G.P.A. On a 4.0 scale which I have worked long nights for. Since throughout all of high school I have been, an still am, involved in many extracurriculars such as DECA, Interact Club, Spanish Honor Society but also managed to be involved in sports as well like Indoor Track and Field, Outdoor Track and Field and Cheerleading. Being a top, varsity athlete in all, has taught me many valuable traits which have helped also become a wonderful young adult.
Nursing professionals assist their patients with the use of clinical judgement and medical care to guarantee patients will either retain or improve their health so they can attain the best quality of life possible. I have made the decision to devote myself to this occupation because of the optimal role that nurses play in improving the health and lives of others. This profession is rewarding and appealing because it provides many responsibilities, challenges, financial security, and job security. Currently I am working toward receiving a Bachelors of Science in Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. One of the steps that I have to complete in order to receive this degree include applying for the full Nursing Program following the fall semester. To guarantee my acceptance, I have accumulated a 4.0 GPA throughout my freshman year and I have also worked very hard to excel within sciences courses such as Anatomy and Physiology. I will continue to work diligently in the future to guarantee acceptance into the program and also success while I am in the program. Not until I
Because of my mother’s and sister’s involvement in the medical field, I have gained a personal connection with wanting to continue in their footsteps. I am going to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to pursue my career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I would like to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in order to provide the best care for small children. I recently obtained my Certified Patient Care Technician certification while in high school, which means I am certified to work in a hospital. The next step is attending at UAB where there is a rigorous academic curriculum, the Pre-Nursing Dean’s Scholar program, for students whose main objective is nursing. I am currently in this program, which is one stepping

Some of the strategies that I am going to implement are not to get discouraged, as I know if I put my mind to it I can do anything. I am going to ask for help when needed either work, home, or school related. I am going to give myself permission to let go so some lesser priorities while I’m
Throughout life people dream of doing something that is amazing, and my goal is to do just that. Ever since I was a kid, I knew that I wanted to assist others and make an impact on people's lives in a positive way. Knowing this, I have always wanted to be a pediatric nurse to better the lives of children in need.
Growing up, I have always been surrounded by nursing. My mother has been a nurse for my entire life as well as my grandmother and a few aunts. I have seen firsthand the stress that it has put on them and how physically draining it can be. What I have seen more so than the stress is the happiness it can bring when you are successfully able to help someone. I believe that nursing can be a truly fulfilling career for me.
When I began pursuing my Master’s Degree in Nursing in 2014, the Family Nurse Practitioner scholarship made my dream of becoming a Nurse Practitioner a reality. I will always be grateful for the opportunities the Dane G. Hansen Foundation granted me.
I am currently a senior nursing student at Samuel Merritt University. I will be graduating and receiving a bachelor’s of nursing science degree in December of this year. After graduation, I hope to pursue a career in pediatric nursing, ideally via the Versant new graduate program at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto, California. I find so much joy in caring for children and providing support to their families, and I look forward to being able to make a difference in the lives of my patients throughout my nursing
My decision to become a nurse was determined while I was going through medical problems during my eighth-grade year and going through my senior year of high school. While I was in the eighth-grade, I was placed in the hospital because of an e-coli poisoning that attacked my digestive tract resulting in HUS, hemolytic uremic syndrome. I was in the hospital for about a week and then went to Mayo for my recovery. This left me weak, but on the road to recovery. Then as I was entering my freshman year of high school, I developed an eating disorder, anorexia nervosa. During the summer before my sophomore year, I was in treatment most of the summer in Minneapolis. I returned to start my sophomore year and then in March, I returned to another treatment facility in Fargo.
I feel I deserve this scholarship, because I have overcome many things in my life to get me this far. The activities that I have been involved with have helped me grow as a person and have allowed me to reach out to others. The activities that I have been involved with include among others, interact club, and the rotc program I feel I deserve this scholarship because I achieve my goals by working hard, study and whatever it takes to get me there.
