The design manager will coordinate the design consultants and the sub-contractors with design responsibility and will be the liaison between them and the PM. The planner will develop the construction programme and sequence with the PM and report site progress on a monthly basis to the contractor’s senior management team. The safety, health, environmental and quality (SHEQ) adviser will provide guidance to the PM and carry out regular health and safety audits on site. The temporary works coordinator will provide assistance to the PM with regard to the temporary works requirements on site i.e. site hoardings, scaffolds, temporary shoring of existing structures, crane siting etc. The buyer will assist the PM and QS in the procurement of materials where works are not sub-contracted on a supply and fix basis. The contracts manager is part of the senior management team and provides support and guidance to the office based personnel and the PM. They will also form relationships with clients with a view to ensuring the client’s aspirations are delivered and securing future work. On larger projects there may also be a services manager who is a specialist in mechanical and electrical (M & E) works, whose main duty is working alongside the design manager during the design phase and provide assistance to the PM once the M & E works start on site.
