Summer Funding Application
We expect students traveling internationally to conduct adequate research on the location(s) where their opportunity will take place. What research have you done, and what have you learned during the course of your research? *
I am exploring an opportunity to return to the company I worked at last summer. Its headquarters is in the US, but their field offices are in the South Pacific. I am currently discussing final plans, but I may be traveling to the South Pacific Region (Samoa, Fiji, Solomon Islands, or Tonga). From my experience last summer I have become fairly knowledgeable regarding the region. If I am traveling abroad, I will first solidify the country, I would be traveling. Once this is confirmed I

To prepare for this new culture I will be researching the country to learn as much as possible. I will reach out to my contacts already there who have relocated to the island and speak with them about any challenges they faced.
What Kinds of experiences are you looking for?
Above all else I am looking for an opportunity to learn. When I am looking at opportunities I most value a collaborative environment with strong teams and an organization with an influential mission. This summer I am seeking positions in the consulting industry or non-profit sphere. I am looking to put myself into an environment that will afford me the opportunity to grow, learn, and take on responsibilities from day one.
I have an offer to return to the Microfinance Institution I worked at last summer. This opportunity may be again based in Newark, NJ or potentially be in one of the field offices in the South Pacific. The reason I am potentially returning is because my experience last summer afforded me the opportunity to work with highly talented people and see the tangible benefits of my work, which significantly improved the lives of thousands. There is an entrepreneurial spirit that I felt I was able to thrive in and I hope to continue to provide tangible benefits.
What are the most important things you’re looking for in a summer experience?
In my summer experience I am looking primarily for an environment I can make a true difference in. I found such an environment at this
Through these pictures, I will track each new experience and skill that I gain. Later, these pictures will go up on my university’s study abroad blog. Along with the blog post, I will create an informational flyer explaining the steps I took in order to be able to study abroad. On the flyer, I will include a list of available scholarships, resources for searching for a study abroad program, tips on choosing a study abroad program, and additional resources to find funding. To ensure that my information is as thorough and accurate as possible, I will coordinate with my university’s study abroad office. My experience in dealing with the study abroad office was overwhelmingly positive. The staff was very well-informed and supportive of my goals and this will be reflected in the
Studying abroad will be an experience of a lifetime. Going beyond the US Coastlines that I have never crossed will get be valuable life lessons that I must learn to be successful in my future career. A person with the right personality and attitude can influence other 's, and I feel I 'm a great example of that. My personal ambition to reach new heights has also motivated me to apply for the staff position on Skyblocky.
I have always wanted to travel during college to study, volunteer, or both, and the study abroad programs and scholarships pertaining to the Honors LLC will allow me to achieve these dreams. I believe traveling to new places is an unparalleled method of learning, as traveling exposes you to ideas, customs, and mannerisms that no textbook can ever teach. In today’s global society, being aware of other cultures is crucial from a personal, business, and societal standpoint.
Iowa State University prides itself on its mission to “Create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place” (Iowa State University Office of the President: Mission and Vision). This mission focuses on the success of each and every student that attends Iowa State. In order for Iowa State’s Study Abroad program to follow the foundational mission of the entire university, it had to create a mission that also focused on the students. The mission they have formed and stand today consists of: putting emphasis on developing strong international adventures. In order for students to go out to other countries to receive a quality education, the Study Abroad program must create a strong base on which they are able to form equal quality education as Iowa State provides no matter where a student goes. To promote opportunities that are inclusive and affordable for all students. To prepare students and directors for success when studying abroad. To advance standards of safety and uphold
I would like to expose myself to new and unique learning opportunities that allow me to grow as a student. My goal is to excel in my schoolwork so I may be able to contribute to class discussions and working with my peers. Learning from others is just as important as leading, and I intend to strive to do both in the classes and organizations I am involved in. More importantly, exposing myself to opportunities to serve and volunteer on campus would would allow me to grow as a person. I feel that stepping out of my comfort zone in a variety of situations will help me succeed as a student and position me as a leader to my peers. There have been many challenges I have overcome, but also many I have not faced that would help me to be a more understanding person. By becoming more empathetic and understanding of situations others face, I will be able to more effectively lead and increase my credibility in my field. Having these experiences will make me a more well rounded person, and I hope to reap the benefits from serving, leading, and academically excelling to further my future

And I completed a month-long independent study project where I became more flexible and patient when working with local stakeholders. By stepping out of my comfort zone, I gained leadership qualities like language proficiency, cross-cultural awareness, and adaptability which I will incorporate in future global field placements. The splatter of dots in the bottom right-hand corner of the map represents countries, such as French Polynesia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, and Solomon Islands, that have their home in the South Pacific. The rich history and diverse culture associated with all these exotic countries make them fascinating destinations to visit. The thousand-mile journey that involves a dreaded, long flight is well worth the experience and magical memories that will be made in any of the cities below.
Sufficiently concealing my concerns for extended travel away from a beautiful young wife with a well-paying position in the mortgage banking industry, a new home in Coral Gables and two cherished Balinese companions, the interview process proceeded well. Outside of the travel aspect, significant when one becomes necessarily secluded in a Central or South American outpost for weeks at a time, the Coral Gables office offered a pleasant environment staffed by professionals of a similar accord. Altogether, this would eventually amalgamate into an obliged decision on a forthcoming offer. Furthermore, there existed another qualitative aspect of concern. A civil war recently ended in Nicaragua, located in Esso’s strategic installation in Managua
