Over the last 6 months I have worked for Capita, in the building surveying team, as a trainee building surveyor.
This case study will focus on three main areas I covered while being employed by Capita, Condition Surveys, Measured Surveys and CAD dwg production. The report will go into detail on three main projects I was able to be involved on during my 6 months at Capita and explain my role within each of the projects. This report will also show how I was able to relate what I had learned from University and put the theory into practice in the work place.

This is my placement report which will talk about my year long industrial placement as a full time employee at the Midlands and Lancashire commissioning support unit as part of my course of study on the BSc Hons Computer Science. During the report I will introduce the company and share some background information in regards to what the company is all about. This report will mainly revolve around my placement position at the Midlands and Lancashire Commissioning support unit and the work I have been involved with during my time at the company. In relation I will report about the training and work experienced I gained as a computing professional and how this industrial placement proved to be an priceless experience as it enabled me to become a more proficient individual and computing professional
The company that I chose to do my presentation on is Maurices Store. I worked in retail as a manager for 12 years at the former County Seat and one of my assistants is still working retail as a manager at Maurices here in Dubuque. I was interested in choosing retail sales because it is where I started and I wanted to see how it has changed over the years.
The case study will analyse the partnership between both organisation in detail, looking at the level of the partnership, why the partnership exists, who benefits from the partnership, what benefits or hinder the partnership and what could be improved.
The works were spread across 16 different zones/phases. I drafted all method statement and the construction programmes for the zones which had different start and finish dates. The work programme was elongated during the works due to changes in zones, sequencing at the request of the client. I developed a temporary works design for the removal of a steel column which held up the roof to create an open plan office. I also learned about cleanroom construction detailing. A new freezer was constructed, a specially designed Flow Crete engineered screed was used, following approval of a technical submittal which I drafted. I was responsible for the implemented by Sisk of the Abbott Zero Waste to Landfill policy, resulting in Abbott Longford winning an award from Abbott Corporate for successfully delivering the policy. I developed a defects period management plan for issues arising post project completion. This helped build a good working relationship with Abbott management, resulting in Sisk securing additional minor works projects which I managed and completed on an on/off basis from 2011 to

I was working in a new department focusing on launching innovative products. The workload spanned from technical to customer relations and management sides. For instance, supporting and providing technical documents such as guaranteed documents, and Q&A guidance for salespeople. On a more challenging level, I was assigned to create product catalogues and installation manuals by integrating creative graphic design with the technical terms of the prefabricated lightweight wall system. On sales strategy and customer relations side, my duty was to provide technical solutions of prefabricated non-load/load bearing wall to customers. I was also in charge of performing as a sales representative, presenting products’ technical subjects and delivering technical presentations to a wide array of clients with both technical and non-technical backgrounds. My first industrial experience was the internship I underwent last summer at Larsen & Toubro Constructions (L&T), the top construction company in India. I had first hand experiences at planning and scheduling at the site office.
