California has had along history of dealing with its most vital resource water. It is not uncommon for a state/country to experience a drought that is the fluidity of the earth. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to say when a drought will break for California it is vital that the state make breakthroughs in science and technology that can help us sustain a proper water supply that gives water to the masses. Exploring a section of California specifically in Santa Barbara, I will be looking at the history of water and finding innovative solutions for more sustainable practices within the county itself. Looking at past practices of water usage and the social, political, and current ideas of how drought has affected this area and the solutions for the enduring future. Santa Barbara lies on the south facing area of coastline. The city is between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean with its Meditteran climate and pristine beaches Santa barabara is an ideal place to live and visit. Chow and the city of Santa Barbara. This was a dispute that the city of Santa Barbara was unlawfully diverting water from the Santa Ynez River for domestic use and planning to construct another dam, and chow thought his water rights were being violated this led to the case of Gin S. Chow v. City of Santa Barbara. The state ruled in favor of the defendant stating, “where no use is made of such waters on the riparian land and no benefit accrues to riparian land from their passage over the bed of the stream, and no damage is caused to the riparian land from the proposed diversion."( Chow v.
