In order to achieve happiness, one must be willing to verve an enormous measure in order to do great wonders, such as to take a journey of a lifetime. In the novel The Alchemist, Santiago’s journey led him to the Egyptian pyramids, in which he found his personal legend. Santiago’s instinct and perseverance pushed him to achieve his goal, accentuating a similar travels and aspirations in the non-fiction world. The faster paced offense and the ability to audible should be huge for Tannehill’s fantasy numbers. Tannehill was a top 10 QB in 2014, but had a bit of a decline in 2015. With the renovations on offense, a new coaching staff, and younger players such as Jay Ajayi and DeVante Parker taking on larger roles, it will be interesting to see what kind of effect this has on Tannehill’s fantasy production.
What makes a hero be a hero? A hero has to have certain characteristics, such as; bravery, wisdom, etc. No matter what characteristics are pointed out, every story has a hero, or an archetypal hero. From a short stories to really long novels, you will have some type of hero. In the novel The Alchemist, the main character Santiago is a hero. The book is about how everyone should live their dreams and never give up on them. It follows a young man named Santiago who is following his own dream, or his own “Personal Legend”. It follows him and his struggles to achieve said Personal Legend. Santiago is a hero because he is wise, kind, and brave; He is also a hero because he displays characteristics of an archetypal hero..
In The Alchemist by Paul Coelho the obstacle that is most significant to Santiago's growth is the fear of defeat because he is able to become more successful after being left with nothing in Morocco, able to prove himself to the Oasis after convincing the chieftains of and oncoming attack, and able to transform himself into wind after being forced to do so for his life.
Santiago’s growth was inspiring to me. He has learned a great deal from action. He learns quite a lot about the land and his sheep by being a shepherd and paying attention to the world around him. His grandfather had mentioned to him a while back of an omen. “By traveling, watching and paying attention, the world will speak to Santiago to help him find is Personal Legend.” Through action, Santiago learns how easy it is to search for one’s Personal Legend. Everyone has their own way of learning things. For example when Santiago decides to try reading the Englishman’s book and he would try and read the signs of the desert. The boy does not learn a thing from the book and the Englishman learns nothing from watching the caravan. Just as Santiago
To begin his long journey, Santiago meets a wise old king name King Melchizedek. He is in a local market when the king walks up and asks Santiago what he is reading. The king continues to say that the book he is reading is important but irritating because it describes the characters inability to choose their own Personal Legend. When Santiago asks where this mysterious stranger is from, King Melchizedek replies with “I am from many places, but I was born in Salem as I am the king there” (Coelho 64). Accepting his statement as true, Santiago continues the conversation allowing them to eventually talk about his dream of the Pyramids. The king wants to help Santiago, but for a price of six sheep. Before leaving with Santiago’s sheep he shares, “’The secret of happiness is to see all the marvels of the world, and never to forget the drops of oil on the spoon’” (Coelho 32). His message to Santiago reminds him that by following his dream he will witness beautiful sights and people, but that he should always remember the purpose of his travels. Leaving it at that, the king pointed Santiago in the direction to follow his dream.
Paulo Coelho uses allusions throughout The Alchemist to relate the story to biblical figures. What is currently occurring in The alchemist is, that a strange man named Melchizedek is asking Santiago to give him one tenth of his heard and he will tell him how he has to get to the pyramids. Melchizedek told Santiago many ideals of following your dream in life, and he guided him and explained to him why it is always so important to follow your dream in life. Santiago gives him the sheep and Melchizedek tells him how to get to the treasure and then the book reads “Melchizedek… He would never again see the boy, just as he had never seen Abraham again after having charged him his one-tenth fee…That was his work” (Coelho 21). This alludes to the biblical story the biblical figure Melchizedek. Melchizedek was the King of Salem, and it is said that when Abraham was returning after a battle Melchizedek met him, blessed him, and brought him bread and wine. In return,
The impact of unchecked ambition greatly influences occurrences that take place in an individual’s life. These influences occur in one’s thoughts, behaviours and actions. Although good intentions come with these factors, the results are not always good outcomes, and instead trigger tragedies. According to Napoleon Bonaparte: “Great ambition is the passion of a great character. Those endowed with it may perform very good or very bad acts.
“I want to stay at the oasis,” the boy answered. “I’ve found Fatima and as far as I am concerned, she’s worth more than treasure.” Everyone knows what they want to do, but they are afraid of hurting those around them by abandoning everything in order to pursue our dream. Some do not realize that love is something to impel us, not something that will prevent us to go further. Those that genuinely wish us well want us to be happy and are prepared to accompany us on that journey. After hearing the Alchemist’s predictions and Fatima saying that he should go, Santiago decided to accompany the Alchemist and pursue his personal legend. Santiago overcame his problem when his father told him he can not travel, and he also perused his personal legend and did not hurt Fatima.
The alchemist is a well written book that accurately describes every concept about life and explains it through a story. The Alchemist is a book about a shepherd named Santiago, who discovers his personal legend and receives help from others to help achieve his Personal Legend and learns many major life lessons along the way. Santiago gets advice that when life puts him down, keep getting back up and to focus on the task at hand, which is Santiago’s own personal legend. Along the the journey, Santiago receives help from many different characters but only three characters who helped him the most throughout his quest for his Personal legend is the alchemist, the Old King and the Englishman. The best advice a reader is able to gain from this story is the advice the the Old King taught Santiago, which is” there is only one thing that makes achieving a dream impossible to achieve, the fear of failure” which means is to never be afraid of failures and to follow your own path God has laid out for you because if you are too afraid to pursue your personal legend, meaning if people are too afraid to take risks to make their own life better than it already is now, then they will not have the opportunity to accomplish their own goals. In Coelho's The Alchemist, Santiago learns the Soul of the World through experience, patience, time and help from the Old King, the Englishman and the alchemist.
When Santiago arrives in Tangier he is robbed by a thief and is forced to find work from the locals. He meets a crystal merchant and gets hired to work for him. Santiago convinces the merchant to take some risks in his business. This advice pays off and Santiago becomes a rich man in just a year. Santiago stars to gain confidence in his decisions and decides to use his earning to pursue his personal legend. Santiago soon joins a caravan crossing the Sahara desert and meets an Englishman who is studying to become an Alchemist. On the trip Santiago and the Englishman don’t converse much but Santiago still ends up learning a lot
Santiago's journey in Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist is more important than his destination. There is no comparison between the rewards of the journey versus the rewards of the destination. He proves this time and time again through sacrifice, through perseverance, and through faith. Santiago's journey is the hidden destination because what he really gains from the quest is knowledge and familiarity with himself. He was able to complete the journey because he found all the answers to the questions he had been searching for within himself. (Core 39)
World War I acted as a ripple effect rooted from conflicts between the five major powers and surrounding areas, each dispute within Europe during the 18th century formed alliances and created jealousy amongst the countries. The quote “World War I was not inevitable, as many historians say. It could have been avoided, and it was a diplomatically botched negotiation” is disagreeable as many factors contributed to the war. Each nation had a desire for dominance and control, a resilient confidence in their own nationalities, and wanted to create stronger armies and navies, making this war inevitable and non-negotiable. The five major powers during this time had a strong sense of nationalism, in which they wanted to expand their territory, and conquer lands in Africa, the Balkan Peninsula, and overseas, for more power, trade, and resources, and overall create the most powerful and influential country in Europe.
The characters in this short story have an object which they seem to both enjoy and use to bond with one another by taking trips. Erdrich, uses the car as a symbolism of the bond that the Lamartine brothers share. The trips that both brothers went on were full of adventure and joy and much of that joy came from having the car and
The Theme of “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho is, always follow your dreams and listen to your heart. At the start of the novel Santiago does not know what he should do when he is confronted by his dream. But by the end of the novel Santiago completely trusts his heart to guide him though life. Santiago’s story shows him learning and living out the theme of the novel.
