Visiting a different island in the Caribbean each summer has always been a family tradition of mine. The first few years never failed to make me fall in love with each and every one of them, but once my family suggested on visiting Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the eighth year, my thoughts were not so hyped. Going to the same sea each year can get old and boring. When we finally got to Punta Cana, falling in love was too short of a term to describe what I felt for it. As soon as we landed we were greeted with songs and happiness all around. The nobleness lingering in the atmosphere, coconut smell in the air, and architecture went beyond my imagination.

Thorough out my high school career I was extremely involved on campus. Whether it was community service, philanthropy, or even just a club for fun I would always do my best to stay/get involved with any organization on campus. The Raton-Clayton volcanic field is about 20 000 km2 in size, and has been active periodically for the past 9 million years. The area is filled with peaks, cones, and lava-capped mesas. The mesas developed as lava flowed into valleys and depressions, cooled off and formed a resistant top layer over sedimentary rocks. As the surrounding rock eroded, the lava protected the underlying stratigraphy from erosion. This caused todays topography, where that which was once the lowest point, is now the highest. There is some disagreement over why the volcanic field is here, one possible cause is that it is near the end of the Jemez Lineament, which has numerous volcanic centers along its reach, possibly

Mount Vesuvius developed inside the caldera of an older volcano. This volcano was known as Monte Somma. Monte Somma became active around 400,000 years ago. Only the northern side of Monte Somma is left, creating a wall-like ridge around the northern edge of Mount Vesuvius. This feature can be observed today at the site of Mount Vesuvius.
