Sarah Merryman spent the first fourteen years of her life in Long Island, New York. After moving to West Lafayette, Indiana in 2010, she underwent the challenge of adapting to the American Midwest. In the process forming a new life, she experienced several new adventures such as playing third-baseman on the girls’ softball team. After spending a gap year following high school graduation, Sarah entered the world of higher education by enrolling in Ivy Tech Community College with the intent of earning an associates degree in liberal arts. Pleasantly surprised that she survived her first year of college, Sarah has spent her second year at Ivy Tech taking advantage of every leadership opportunity available on campus. She lived during a time when there was extreme racism but it didn’t stop her from working hard and achieving her goal. She became the first female self-made millionaire in America. She became famous for her beauty supplies for black women, and she used her fames and riches to help others. Now there is a difference for African American women beauty mostly because of her. Later on in this essay I’m going to explain facts about her that I didn’t even know.
According to E-Newspaper 48 Hours, In the small town of Dickinson in Texas, on August 9th 1990, 8-year-old Jennifer Schuett was abducted by Dennis Earl Bradford. After being taken straight from her bed through her bedroom window, Bradford attempted to calm Schuett by reassuring her he was an undercover officer. Bradford then strangled, raped and lacerated Shuett’s neck, leaving her to bleed out in a field. Shuett recalls him asking her “Am I scaring you little girl? Am I scaring you?” Schuett was left helpless and immobile until she was found by children playing a game of tag. Bradford was not identified or arrested for his actions until 19 years later. However, before he could be tried, Bradford committed suicide in his jail cell.

She didn’t play any instruments regularly, but there are some videos on YouTube of her playing piano. She sang I Will Always Love You and I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me). I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) was written about finding someone special for themselves. Dolly Parton wrote, composed, and originally recorded I Will Always Love You. In 1992, Houston recorded it for the soundtrack for The Bodyguard. Whitney Houston was signed by three record labels, Arista Records, Sony Music Entertainment, and RCA Records.
Helen Levitt was an incredibly influential street photographer starting in the late 1930’s and was active all the way until the 1990’s. She enjoyed much early success in her photography career photographing day-to-day happenings in the world around her, this set the stage for a long and very important career. Her photography can be described as objective because through her work she represented New York in a non bias way, photographing day to day happenings in her local life in Brooklyn, New York and the surrounding city such as children playing in the streets (Broken mirror), and adults going about their usual business gossiping, and simply their city life (Checkered Car). However, some may argue the point the Helen may have done an outstanding job at creating the illusion of objective work by photographing specific happenings around her world, and creating the illusion of a status quo.
