Adnan Syed, the convicted murderer at a young age, got famous because Sarah Koenig made his case the subject of a national podcast called Serial. She believed the case was interesting because it was “confusing and there was not much evidence against him” yet he was convicted of a murder. The podcast Serial developed by This American Life, is nonfiction that is spoken by Sarah Koenig who is an investigative journalist. Sarah Koenig also mentions there was no real evidence that Adnan was the murderer. The View from LL2 has all the evidence from the podcast, “Serial: An Examination of the Prosecution’s Evidence Against Adnan Syed”, which reviews all available evidence for Adnan’s case. Also, from the article The View from LL2 explains what testimonies …show more content…
Adnan Syed, an American-Muslim, is convicted life in prison of a murder of Hae Min Le, Adnan’s ex-girlfriend. About 19 years ago, January 13, 1999 a high school senior Hae Min Le who went to Woodlawn High School has disappeared. About a month later, Hae’s body was found in Lincoln Park in Baltimore. The cause of death was strangulation and Adnan Syed, was the first suspect and later was arrested for her murder. Adnan states that he did not murder Hae and that he is innocent (Serial season 1). “There was no physical evidence linking Adnan to Hae’s murder. It should be noted that this was not because of any lack of effort on the state’s part; in developing a case against Adnan, investigators compared soil found on Adnan’s boots to soil samples where Hae’s body was found, looked for Adnan’s fingerprints in Hae’s car and at the crime scene, tried to match fibers and hairs found at the crime scene with Adnan’s hair and clothes. But all of that came up empty” (The View from LL2). Several test were performed at the murder scene which came out to be negative results towards Adnan, meaning he was not at the crime scene when Hae was murdered. Adnan’s convictions were based on unreliable “evidence”. Since there was no real evidence putting Adnan in the crime scene, how was he the main
Adnan Syed is innocent. I believe this because one, everyone says things that don’t make sense or don’t add up. Two, how could Adnan do this if he cared for Hae as much as he says he does? Three, every time it seems like the blame should fall on Adnan, people doubt that he’s not the one to blame. First, Adnan Syed is innocent in my eyes because all of his witnesses say different things and things that don’t add up. For example, almost all of the witnesses said a lot of “he was probably there”, and “from what I can recall”. Next, Adnan cares and wants the best for Hae, so why would he kill her? Adnan stated that he just wanted her to be happy that’s all he cared about, does that sound like a murder to you? Lastly, there’s too much doubt on
On January 13th of 1999, a 17 year old Korean girl by the name of Hae Min Lee when missing after school in Baltimore, Maryland. Lee’s body was discovered in Leakin park; three weeks later in a shallow grave. The police arrested and charged Lee’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed with the murder six weeks later. The police alleged Syed because of phone records they obtained also their only witness Jay Wilds. In the murder case of Hae Min Lee, Adnan Syed should not have been convicted. Syed should not have been convicted on the account of Syed has no history of violence, the single witness in the case has major inconsistencies in his story about the events that occurred, and the lack of evidence that firmly connects Syed to the murder.
Adnan Syed is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, and various factors present him as a very likely suspect. Information put together by the state don’t add up, but instead prove he is innocent. Is Adnan guilty or innocent for his ex-girlfriend’s death? In the Serial Podcast, journalist Sarah Koenig discusses the case, committed almost seventeen years ago, and uncovers new evidence that indicates Adnan’s innocence. Adnan Syed has been viewed as a boyfriend, honor roll student, and a murderer. Many described him as a smart, flirtatious, and a likable high schooler. On January 13, 1999, his ex-girlfriend, Hae Min Lee, was murdered. Investigators immediately assumed Adnan as the primary suspect because Hae had broken up with him, a month
The first reason I believe Adnan is guilty because 2 people said they seen him at the library where the murder might’ve happened. This reason makes sense because, if somebody says that’s where he did it and another person says they seen him around there, that’s evidence. He’s a huge suspect. This
Koenig leaving out that Asia was trying to reach the lawyers herself seems odd because it would’ve provided more insight on how avid Asia was to try and get Adnan proven innocent. Moreover, Sarah Koenig is mistaken because she overlooks that Asia already went to the library and mentioned the ability to have surveillance videos, but doesn’t mention it in her narrative. This matters because instead of trying to go and get footage herself, Koenig should be wondering why they didn’t try to get the footage during the actual murder trial.
To begin with, Adnan might be innocent because not enough evidence was gathered. The investigators put the car that Hae’s body was found under examination. According to Sarah Koenig, no evidence was found that leads back to Adnan. She adds, “Apart
This murder might have been completed in 1999, but there should still have been DNA evidence taken. The cops at the scene of Lee’s dead body did not bother to test her body for DNA. Even Sarah Koenig said,”there was nothing linking him to the crime-- no DNA, no fibers, no hairs, no matching soil from the bottom of his boots”(Koenig, “The Alibi”). Koenig even said that Adnan was convicted on just his possible motive and Jay's testimony. There was some of Adnan’s fingerprints in Hae Lee’s car but that shouldn't matter because Adnan was in her car all the time when they were dating. I just don't believe that a young man can be put in jail without any DNA evidence against
Firstly, the Nisha call placed Adnan with Jay after the murder. This call could have been a butt-dial that rang for 2 minutes. The call could have been from Adnan, who wanted to make Jay talk with Nisha. The Nisha call does not prove Adnan killed Hae, as it simply just puts him with Jay at the time. Also, the prosecution stated that Adnan was constantly doing bad things. Everyone does bad things, but it does not make them murderers. Finally, Jay knew the location of Hae’s car. The fact that Jay knew the location of Hae’s car should arouse suspicion on him. The evidence utilized by the prosecution is circumstantial and can be disproved, and the lack of strong evidence proves Adnan’s
An interview is composed of the interviewer and the respondent. The success of the interview session is dependent on the strategies applied by the interviewer as he or she has the power to influence the response. The level of participation is also one of the factors considered in an interview. In season one of the serial podcast show, the interviewer is Sarah Koenig while the interviewee includes some high school kids. Some of these kid includes; Krista, Aisha, Jenn, Cathy, Saad, Jay, and Adnan Syed.
My verdict is Adnan Syed is innocent of the murder of Hae Min Lee. I reached this verdict after analyzing the evidence and determining that there was a reasonable doubt that he committed the murder. The following pieces of evidence showed he was not linked to the crime: The first piece of evidence talks about the lack of physical proof.
When presenting their cases, hosts in true crime podcasts narrate in an unbiased and serious manner to emphasize the seriousness of the matter and to allow the reader to draw their own opinions. In Serial, Sarah Koenig investigates the murder of Hae Min Lee and as part of her investigation, she interviews Adan Syed, the boyfriend convicted of her murder. Above all, Koenig does not treat Syned as guilty but rather plays both sides by saying things such as “Maybe Adnan really is innocent. But what if he isn't? “(Koenig) and allows the listener to come up with their own conclusions. Similarly, Payne Lindsey, Phoebe Judge, and Marc Smerling do this in their podcasts as well, allowing the listeners to be attentive and become Sherlock Holmes for a
Physical evidence was extremely lacking, and all DNA tests conducted were clear of Syed’s DNA. Therefore, it is more than likely that Syed is innocent. The evidence, or lack thereof, presented in the case of Adnan Syed v. State of Maryland proves that Adnan Syed is not guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee.
A lot of people wonder if Adnan Syed is guilty or innocent, today as a legal assistant I'm going to tell you one important reason why he is innocent. Adnan is not guilty because there is another potential suspect like Jay. Jay's story that "proves" Adnan's guilt, has changed every interview and testimony. Jay had intimate knowledge of the crime he knew things, like if he knew every single thing that Adnan was thinking about which makes everything looked suspicious. Also Jay's stories don't quite match Adnan's cell records.
Adnan Syed, a senior in Woodlawn High School, was convicted and charged with the first-degree murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee in 1999. Not only is Adnan’s alibi inconclusive, but he also fails to recall any specific details or occurrences of January 13th-the date Hae Min Lee disappeared. His acquaintance, Jay Wilds, has served as the State’s key witness. Despite having already served seventeen years in prison, Adnan did not murder Hae Min Lee. His innocence simply has not been captured due to missing perspectives, inconsistencies in Jay’s story, and biases in the law enforcement.
With the State’s defense crumbling without Jay’s testimony, what is the evidence against Adnan? There is physical evidence linking him to the murder, that is undisputable. So what does the state have? A palm print of Adnan’s on the back of an Atlas but not on the most incriminating page is about it for the State. If we stripped this case of Jay and all the “maybe” evidence you’re left with motive. It’s simple because Adnan didn’t have one. He was friends with Hae, Adnan was civil towards her and her new boyfriend, and he himself had already moved on as well. If we put this case back together and include all the so-called evidence then we need an alibi for
