Savagery In George Orwell's The Rule Of Three

Chaos, a simple word embodying complete dysfunction through confusion. A word defined as a behavior both unpredictable and random. The Rule of Three is a novel that accurately showcases how quickly savagery can take over civilization and the effects this can have on a community. For this reason, I have chosen to do my ISP on this novel. I chose this picture as I believe it clearly depicts my first theme. In the book, anarchy breaks loose, and what once was a peaceful community turns into a mob. This connects to the picture I chose as while surfing, the water starts out calm and is easy to control, similar to how a community is easier to handle when it is calm and acts orderly. However, when the wave begins to tunnel, it gains complete control over the surfer and collapses over him. In this case, the wave starting to tunnel represents the anarchy that breaks loose in the book, and the tunnel collapsing represents a community falling. My second theme asserts the fact that there is a constant conflict between civilization and savagery. I believe that is perfectly represented by this picture. On one side, you have healthy food or civilization. What this quote is affirming is when you are faced with tough circumstances you will end up having to make a tough decision. The same thing applies to this picture. You have two choices. You can either pick the seedless apple and be satisfied for the present or pick the seeds and grow as many apples as you desire for the future. The best choice is obviously the seeds, however, in context towards the book, a character is faced with making a decision that sacrifices some lives for the replenishment of others. This causes him to think hard about his actions/decisions in both the present and
