Robert Frost once wrote, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I, I took the one less travelled by and that has made all the difference. As a young, educated, black man I have already chosen to take the road less travelled. Life is a journey where you stumble and fall, but I elected to not become a negative statistic. While in high school I decided to start my college education early in the pursuit of bettering my mind and proving to my ancestors that their plight is being well-respected.

I’ve grown up in an alternate family structure with my aunt becoming my guardian at the start of my 9th grade year. Without her I don’t know where I would be because she has continuously supported me through everything I do no matter how different. I have experienced so much and she helps me toward all my dreams. Even through taking care of her parents when they became ill and eventually passed she was always there for me and now that I have grown a bit, I can be there for her. Now we have come to this new challenge and though she will always support me, it gets difficult sometimes financially and funding from the Greater Albany Chapter of Savannah State University Alumni Association would greatly put me on the right track to realize my dreams as a young black male. I thank this organization for giving me the opportunity to be considered for

In the leadership aspect, I have knowledge from workshops. I am able to be a leader without being controlling in small and large group activities. When working individually I am able to keep my self-control, with a teacher around or not. This includes acting in a respectful manor towards teachers and students. I treat all of my peers with kindness, respect
Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Like most young boys I grew up idolizing sport heroes, racing kids on the playground, and playing sports outside. My teams were the Cowboys, the Astros, and later on in life the Aggies. Consequentially, if you didn’t love Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio than I didn’t really like you. Although most of these decisions were made based upon my brother’s sport interest, I learned to love them in my own way. After all, my brother was the one who I played basketball with, threw the football and baseball with, and eventually the one who inspired my love for A&M and the Aggies. For all my life I can remember wanting to play sports and wanting to watch sports, but around 7th grade when my brother moved off to A&M is when I really started getting the sports bug. Visiting for home games, standing in the
From the moment I started my freshmen semester at Bloomsburg University, I instantly regretted my decision of not attending Temple University. Although I was accepted to both Universities, I thought I would’ve done better at a university such as Bloomsburg , but evidently attending Bloomsburg University was my biggest regret. I started my freshman year at Bloomsburg University full of excitement and adrenaline knowing that Bloomsburg will be my home for the next 4 years, but unfortunately, this plan did not follow through. While attending Bloomsburg University for the fall semester, I felt as if there was no help nor academic push for success. I was a number to the professors and when asking for help it was a tedious task.
I come from a large and very close family. I am the youngest of eighteen grandchildren and there are now twenty-two great grandchildren. When I was nine years old, my beautiful cousin Avery was born. Avery arrived into this world fourteen weeks prematurely and weighed less than one pound, she was sent to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) immediately after birth and remained there for eight days. On the eighth day Avery passed away, and I was traumatized by her loss.

The professional relationships I have here, are essential to me and the make me a very determined individual. Coming into UNF in fall of 2017 I will be a transfer student. The choice to transfer wasn’t hard at all. I was born and raised in Jacksonville and miss home terribly. After not being happy at the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida I knew I needed to move back home to Jacksonville and finish up my degree at the best school in Jacksonville, which happens to have a good exercise science program. I chose to transfer UNF’s Exercise Science program because I miss home, but also because I have heard great things about the program from former and current students.
Texas A&M is my home. I am 44 years old and I have been a full-time employee of Texas A&M University for almost 10 years. Although it has taken me a long time to get to the academic level that I am now at, I have never given up. Even though, they encouraged me every step of the way I was not guided very well academically by my parents. Neither of them attended college, so they were unable to provide advice. Now that I have gained the knowledge and know what I want, I will continue to work hard on my academic journey until it is complete.
I am a currently a Junior, at Warren New Tech High School, and I just started my second semester. I am a hardworking student, who likes to maintain her academics, as high as possible. I used to always get A and B Honor Roll (Freshmen and Sophomore year), but so far this year I have been able to make Principal’s List, this was during my first semester. I am really hoping that I will get accepted into North Carolina State University (NCSU), it’s considered as my top choice and they have a really significant Agriculture Program. I know how important it is to actually get a scholarship, when you are applying these top colleges, especially if you don’t have a resource for that kind of money. I have gotten very interested in working with farm animals, and I have started my own farm (just chickens now, but more animals will soon come). I also work part-time at a reality, here in North Carolina, on the lake with my
I am applying for a freshman scholarship, and was wondering if you would be willing to write my recommendation letter? The letter is optional, but there will be a question sheet you would be required to fill out. I can send my resume if you would like extra information. I would really appreciate it, but if you can't, that's perfectly fine too!
