If I were ever stuck in an island and a rich man asked me to marry him, I would say no, especially if he was my father. Surrounded in a small isolated island, avoiding American commercialism is too hard to ignore, especially if you want to go to America. In the CCNY theatrical adaption of the musical book “Jamaica” by Yip Harburg, Fred Saidy and Harold Arlen, director and choreographer, Keith Lee Grant conveyed the witty life of Savannah and her friends in the Caribbean island of Jamaica. With its use of puppets and power points director Grant portrays the eagerness each character was in need to get what they wanted. Savannahs desire to go to New York City, and Koli’s true love to fight for her was a love story I believe should not have finished with a good ending.
