I, then told him “that’s good Brian glad they did” Brian then mentioned that he was supposed to get more money but that it was denied by Jeremy Vesely. In the Adventures of Tom Sawyer a young boy named Tom has a job to be done which is whitewashing the fences. While on the other hand in “Born Worker” is another young boy named Jose who loves to work has a big job opportunity that is to clean Mr.Clemmens pool. Both of these characters are similar because Tom and Jose both have a job to do and need to get it done so they can do what they planned to do that day. As along the way there are some effects that get in the way such as in “Born Worker” on page 120 when Jose starts to freshen the pool with bleach and scrubs it down till it is spotless while his cousin Arnie who is full of himself just sits and “supervises” does none of the work. It will take you very far.” Both Tom, a character from Mark Twain’s story “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” and Arnie, a character from Gary Soto’s story, “Born Worker” use their determination to drive themselves far in life. Although they both have great determination, they have different views on life.

Resources drained quickly with an extra mouth to feed and when winter did truly bear down on us, it was unrelenting. When the first snow fell two weeks before Christmas, we thought we had sufficient firewood to last us through, but we never anticipated how much we would need to burn just to stay warm. The Coldest Winter Ever is a novel by Sister Souljah. It is about a teenage girl, Winter Santiaga. This novel tells Winter’s story and what happens when fast money and a flashy life style tares her whole world apart. The author Sister Souljah did a great job in depicting the characters in The Coldest Winter Ever. Winter being the main character; is the most depicted out of all the other characters in the novel.

U.S. President John F. Kennedy said, “efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” This quote is talking about how without any purpose and direction in a person’s life you cannot succeed in your future of what you want it to be without these key factors. In Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon, Christopher Boone experiences different motivations throughout his journey in the story, pushing him into adventurous situations which lead to him doing things that he claimed he could or would not be able to do. Haddon uses motivation as a key theme in this book to drive his character Christopher to overcome the challenges his disability brings.

Motivations are the fuel of our lives, we are motivated to do just about anything. Motivations both positive and negative are valid. Tennessee William’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” we are introduced to a very unique roster of characters, These characters are all very different and unique, throughout the play we see the struggle between the characters, and how they interact and conflict with one another. Stanley Kowalski, Blanche Dubois and Harold Mitchell are all very different yet very similar. Tennessee Williams develops the idea that, when one is motivated by the past, their actions may not be appropriate for their present environment.

In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom and his friends go on many exciting or dangerous adventures. Sometimes, Tom takes the role of the leader, but he also follows what his friends do. This role switching of Tom can be found many times throughout the novel. It is understandable, that people would think that Tom is a follower because at times he does what the other boys do. You can see this when the boys are on the island and Huck starts smoking. Tom then asks Huck to teach him how to smoke. Even though Tom does follow Huck in this scene, he plays the role of the leader a lot more. Tom could accurately be characterized as a leader when he led the pirates, manipulated other boys, and led Becky through the cave.

“Maslow’s theory of motivation suggests we all share a compelling need to “move up” to grow, improve ourselves, and ultimately become self-actualized” (Carpenter & Huffman, 2012, p. 288). Apply this theory one can find out what motivated Preston Tucker in is life and dreams. Tucker was born September 21, 1903, on a farm near Capac, Michigan outside of Detroit, and raised by his mother. After his father had passed away when Preston was young, and being raised by his mother, the physiological need was being meet such as hunger and thirst. Preston even helps with the family by purchasing late models cars and repairing/refurbishing and selling them for profit at the age of sixteen. Looking at safety needs for Preston Tucker did not have a rough life, but he did attend Cass Technical High School in Detroit only for a short time and ended up quitting. It’s “a need or desire that energizes and directs behavior.” For example, in the beginning, Sebastian was playing music at bars that no one appreciated to listen to. Tom Sawyer is a complex character that represents the journey from childhood to adulthood that we all have experienced. The character development that Tom goes through during The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is long and sometimes inconsistent due to the episodic nature of the novel, but his character traits remain along with the overall message. Throughout the story, Tom Sawyer's main characteristics/traits become apparent within the first few chapters. Tom Sawyer is mischievous, envious, and adventurous.
