14. Did you have any scheduling conflicts during high school? List the year of the conflict, classes involved and why you were not able to take the class. Yes, I was not able to take AP US History in the 2015-2016 school year (junior year) because of a scheduling conflict with French III Honors. The reason I chose French III Honors instead of APUSH is that I value my education of French culture and the French Honors Society more than a class in history. Though I would have loved to challenge myself in taking an AP course, alongside AP English Language and Composition that I took that same year, and learn about the fundamentals of our nation’s history, I have already taken two years of French already and have learned to love being able to …show more content…
I learned about how important communication, collaboration, agreement, flexibility, and positivity are in the Core Team. I would frequently communicate with all Core Team members (over 25 of them) via text and in person to see if work is being done and help them with any problems they may have. I would also encourage them to never give up when it seems that all hope is lost for a certain project or activity they have been working so hard on. In a similar way, I always put the members’ voice first before voicing my own, whether it is about feedback or more ideas, especially when it comes to masses and retreats. To me, leadership does not mean being the boss, but being a cheerleader for other people. It is about making more leaders and inspiring them to do the things they …show more content…
What hobby, talents or endeavor are you passionate about and why? Campus Ministry, finding a malaria vaccine, and my studies are extremely important to me and they are things I can write books about. However, one of the things the truly defines me is my love for watching movies. Movies have actually taught me more than what I learn in school and in my extracurricular activities. From Forrest Gump, I learned to never live according to a plan, to be open-minded and just take every opportunity thrown at me. From Zootopia, I learned to never give up on my dreams, no matter if society thinks I can get there. From Rain Man, I learned to love people for who they are on the inside and that true love can exist between siblings, not just in romance. In short, movies are my life teachers. Because of that, I watch a movie every other day, and a new one at AMC every week. They teach me how to live life. 31. Is there anything else you would like us to know about? Nope. I am asked to compare your extracurricular involvement to the reset of your class, therefore in writing your recommendation, I look at your RESUME in Naviance. Please make sure you have updated your resume. List all activities in school and out, the more the
It’s about knowing your team and yourself, and doing your best job setting both up for success. I demonstrate leadership in One Act Play, FFA CDEs, Spanish Club, and so forth. In One Act Play, as a sound technician, I contribute suggestions that could improve the aspects of the play from my point of view and share my views to the other technician members. As a technician team, we depend on each other and to be efficient in all tasks undertaken during the play. In reward, we placed as an alternate one act play and one of the technician members placed as an outstanding crew member. In FFA CDEs, we work together as a team as well. I demonstrate leadership by applying my knowledge and solving problems with my teammates. We diligently pursue for excellence in our competitions and work together to resolve questions. In reward, I was rewarded with my Green-Hand FFA Degree in grade 9. In Spanish Club, I demonstrate leadership by inspiring others and myself to do chariable related work in the community. For example, over the Christmas break we visited the White Hall Nursing Home and visited the elderly. We had great conversation and had a great time there. Good leadership descends from character which is based on truth and
A team leader faces many challenges such as co-ordinating a team to achieve a set goal or objective. Every team is created for a purpose, and each one must succeed in meeting objectives. Learning how to get the best out of a team is really the key to making things work. Other factors and challenges that may affect a team leader include budgets, schedules, project timelines, and complaints or bad relationships with underlings. Balancing a series of tasks and roles is really what being a leader is all about, so the most successful leaders will have a dynamic blend of diplomatic skills. Leaders know how to motivate "the troops", and they also know how to quiet down and relate one-to-one when that sort of approach is needed. The best way to become a
I have shown leadership many times while working in a group project or in an activity. I assign parts of the project to others and myself and share my ideas in the group. I try my very best to include everyone and try to incorporate their brilliant ideas in the project or activity as well. I make sure that everyone has a contribution
There are a myriad of movies created that comes with life lessons. Out of all the movies I have ever watched, there is only one movie that I have ever loved. A movie that touched my heart and changed my belief in love. A movie that taught me a valuable lesson of being humble and kind. A movie with a meaningful storyline, and great role players who played their roles wonderfully. A marvelous movie called Beastly.
A leader should not hold all the power of leadership to themselves, but give it away to the team, because that is the only way to empower them. A good leader always take the blame, but never takes the credit, he gives that to the team. A team should be working together to achieve the goal while being united, like a family.
In terms of leadership, I try to take it upon myself to step into a leadership role whenever I see that a situation is becoming disorganized or indolent. For instance, my English teacher last year assigned the class a group project where she took the liberty of creating our groups for us. As I began working with my group to plan out our project, I quickly noticed that not much was getting done due to uncertainty and a lack of communication while the due date grew closer and closer. Instead of just sitting back and doing nothing about the issue, I steered my group in the right direction by opening up discussions about the project where I made sure everyone had a chance to have their ideas heard. I effectively listened to each person, offering constructive feedback and deeply considering any feedback my own ideas received, and then delegated tasks to myself and to the others based on what was best for the group. If someone needed help with his or her part of the project, I gave them all the assistance I could, rather than just focusing on my own personal goals. Whenever I noticed conflict among members of the group, I courteously mediated the problem, as
The authors also found that from their study, improved communication processes increased; being respected and understood increased and supporting/sharing leadership increased; which in turn created a more collaborative and successful
Throughout this entire course we have learned many concepts and strategies to synthesize and use leadership as a means of working in a group setting. These concepts allowed us to learn not only how to lead other
During the group work in the course it was apparent that a few traits stood out that would help a leader effectively lead the team. First, the leader must understand the project and be able to communicate that to the team members to improve commitment and ensure quality. Second, the team should have common goals as we set forth in our team charter. This provides measurable metrics which will help identify if the team is effective. Third, accountability is a priority from the very beginning. Everyone needs to know their part and the consequences if they are unable to meet the expectations set out by the group. Lastly, the leader must be able to create an environment of open communication to enable team members to give and receive feedback that will enhance the quality of the project.
In another instance, I had to lead my fellow student employees during one of our biggest summer events. Our team had coordinated this event a few times before and each person had both the ability and the confidence to complete their tasks. For this situation, I used an entrusting style of leadership and let them take charge of their respective portions of the event (Daft, 2014). This style of leadership gave them the freedom to use their creativity to improve the event and the decision-making process was more efficient.
Talented collaborative leaders are created of a combination of traits. A good leader is someone who communicates well and is honest with their peers. For instance, he/she tells them when they are wrong and how they could improve. Not only does a leader tell their followers when they are doing wrong but also gives motivation by providing them with positive feedback. A successful collaborative leader needs to have power to influence other people's action, values, beliefs, and attitudes (Northouse, 2016). It is important for them to not become bossy and to treat every member equally and with respect. A leader should leave stigmas behind, be loyal, and be respectful. Being involved and knowing how to manage everything is important in order for he/she to make the group environment safe in were all the
When k = 2, we can solve the given problem with a polynomial time brute-force algorithm. For every set of n2 processes, we loop over m resources to determine if there are any resources in common between them. If they don’t, there are no sets of k = 2 processes with such resources. If they do, then there is a set of k = 2 processes with such resources.
Being a leader means having the ability to compromise, the ability to listen well and to empathize. I have demonstrated leadership at work with my coworkers who are interns and are new to the job. I always show them what to do and how to do it right. I also encourage them that with time and practice they will get used to the job. At school, I always try to correct my classmates whenever I see them do something wrong. I show them how to do it right. It just never feels right to me seeing someone do something wrong and not correcting them or showing them the right thing. Some of my classes like art I have with students who are in a lower grade than me, students who are just learning to draw and paint. Most times I show them some drawing and painting techniques that would them. We also work in groups most times at school and I’ve learnt never to criticize anyones ideas. I respect people’s ideas and people themselves. The first and most important area of leadership is to show others respect and gain respect and I believe it is important to show respect whether the person deserves it or not.
Agencies struggle with accessibility to ensure assistance to individual’s in need. Although, often the need doesn’t match the options given. Client’s availability and agencies work hours can conflict making it difficult for those that need assistance or help. In these cases, shouldn’t client still get the help they need? I would propose that the agency offer after hour appointment times for those who have conflicting schedules. Meeting a client or patient where they are and helping them with what they need is the main objective of any help profession.
