My proposed project to promote the Gilman Scholarship and International education would be to create a scripted journal. This journal would be filled with practicing of my experiences of what I will learn in a different country. I hope to present scripted journal with friends, staff, and others at my home school as well to others to the international program center as a way to promote my studying and career choice in a different region. My artistic careers are an easy way to catch people’s attention, so the goal will be for students to be interested in the arts and course be interested in studying abroad. The target population would be the students in the other country. Most students would focus on more pictures, demonstrations, and …show more content…
The value of an International education is incomparable to regular instruction. Building upon this, I am confident that upon returning from Italy I am continue my outreach to underrepresented students. My first proposed project would consist of an outreach campaign that will have two overlapping phases: Videos and Campus outreach. Every week I will make a video highlighting what I have accomplished, and one thing I’ve learned during my studies. These videos will be targeted towards minority students, specifically African Americans, who are interested in Studying abroad. It is imperative for students and others watching that my experience is not just about going to the country, but also immersing myself and studying the culture. I am hopeful that sharing my experiences would motivate those who wish to achieve they’re goals. The journal would be filled of my pictures and videos of my experiences in Italy. It will sequential representation of my first arrival time, setting in, meeting new people, exploring the city, and lastly living on campus and my classes. Advice and safety tips can be included, as well. Having videos and pictures of getting prepared to study abroad can help everyone see the process of getting prepared to leave abroad. The journal would focus on significant events to prevent the journal from going overtime.
Secondly, another way of promoting international education to minorities would be in conjunction with
The foreclosure crisis is the second major financial dilemma of the twenty-first century. To solve this, the roots of the problem need to be dug up and exposed followed by replanting with an appropriately improved regulatory system to help build stronger roots for the future. It seems that the free market system can't be free anymore given its intertwining roots extend way beyond domestic to international financial systems. There are two fundamental causes to the latest credit crisis: 1) poor quality securitized mortgages and 2) insufficient underwriting for credit poor borrowers. Secondary (downstream) problems making the financial crisis more complex include underemployment and business failures. Many banks,
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
Iowa State University prides itself on its mission to “Create, share, and apply knowledge to make Iowa and the world a better place” (Iowa State University Office of the President: Mission and Vision). This mission focuses on the success of each and every student that attends Iowa State. In order for Iowa State’s Study Abroad program to follow the foundational mission of the entire university, it had to create a mission that also focused on the students. The mission they have formed and stand today consists of: putting emphasis on developing strong international adventures. In order for students to go out to other countries to receive a quality education, the Study Abroad program must create a strong base on which they are able to form equal quality education as Iowa State provides no matter where a student goes. To promote opportunities that are inclusive and affordable for all students. To prepare students and directors for success when studying abroad. To advance standards of safety and uphold
From taking the course in Japan and living with a host family, I had learned a new language that can benefit me to open more career opportunities. If I didn’t go to Japan I might never learn Japanese. I will add in my personal challenge I had faced when I am making the decision to apply for study abroad and the challenge I encounter after I got accepted. As well as some of the challenge I face while living in Japan. The idea of stepping out of comfort zone was not easy, especially spending life in a different country that shares different culture and language. I want to join the Year in Japan program coordinator together to promote the Country of Japan, and encourage the student to step out of their comfort zone and try to consider a country to study abroad where English is not the primary
Continuing with my graduate studies at UNO would be vital to my continual growth and developmental, in both the academic and professional realms. Having done my Undergraduate studies at UNO was an eye opening and extremely beneficial opportunity which I will be eternally grateful for having and something that I would love to continue with my Graduate studies within the university. Completing my Bachelors of Arts at UNO granted me the opportunity to work with amazing professors who helped shape me into who I am today and granted me the opportunity to expand my knowledge further than the classroom with helping me to conduct my own research. I was able to conduct two research projects focusing on the issues the Hispanic population face, both of which have been presented at the Midwest Sociological Society’s Annual Meetings. My hope is
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
Amazingly my grandmother and namesake landed in America on July 4, 1906 and I will land in Italy on July 4, 2016. As an older student and parent I know studying abroad is a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. It will be one of the best and most important aspects of my learning journey. The prospect of learning in a foreign country from instructors with different teaching skills as well as different curricula excites me. Being a non-traditional student allows me to fully understand the opportunity that lies ahead. It will allow me to learn about a different place and culture. I believe a person can never stop learning and improving herself, and this will give me an amazing opportunity to do
However, I also intend to take an intensive Italian course, which although not advanced, should provide me with the basic abilities to converse and participate in everyday Italian life. I also plan to take an internship, either at an NGO, non-profit or school. This experience will enable me to interact with local citizens and become an active participant in the daily life and culture of Italy. These experiences, coupled with my language and social studies programs, will enable me to live not as a bystander, but rather assimilate into the culture and develop an understanding of Italy’s
Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to represent something that mattered. I wanted to be great at anything I decided to do in life. When I started the 6th grade I had no idea of what I wanted to be when I grew up; until I met my smart lab facilitator Mr. Max Brooks. At that time, He was in charge of the smart lab at our school and he was also the robotics coach. I remember when he asked me personally to join the team. He picked about eight other students just like me to be on the team. Specifically, NSBE stands for the National Society of Black Engineers. All students that he hand-picked to be on the team were to design a robot that followed a pre-set course. We worked after school every day getting
The paper explores the process of becoming a world class international student. In order to become a world class international student goal setting, community building, academic development and personal development is important. The paper explores the result of three articles from the research conducted by different scholars on the process and obstacles to become a world class international student. Ladd and Ruby (1999) suggests that Educators can assist global students with being effective at U.S. colleges by deciding, then disclosing to them, their favored learning styles. Such information can help school educators in modifying their instructing styles to the students' learning styles. Gonclaves and Trunk (2014) says that Maintenance and
With just over 24 hours to write this, I brainstormed and took all I could into consideration. As an older student and parent I know studying abroad is probably a once in a life time opportunity. It will be one of the best and most important aspects of my learning journey. The prospect of learning in a foreign country from people with different teaching skills as well as different curriculum excites me. Being older allows me to fully understand the opportunity that lies ahead. It’s not only a wonderful opportunity to learn in the more formal setting it allows me to learn about a different place and people. I believe a person can never stop learning and improving themselves, and this would give me an amazing opportunity to do so.
Assimilating to an entire new culture can seem bitter-sweet and pushes many peoples comfort zones, many students are interested but do not believe that studying abroad is possible nor feasible. I do believe more students would try to experience abroad if they were more informed on how attainable and beneficial the opportunity can be, especially with the help of the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship. Since I began taking an interest in studying abroad in Croatia, I have noticed that my university has an online flyer for Croatia that does not display much information, nor has a feature that displays what all Croatia has to offer. The Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship recently lowered the requirement for the amounted of time students must be abroad in order to receive aid. I

As a culture-loving Francophile who struggled to overcome the high costs of studying abroad, I am committed to improving the field of international education. More specifically, I aspire to use my study abroad success story to help other students realize that international education is an option for them, regardless of their financial backgrounds. Hence, I am applying for a Master of Science in College Student Personnel to equip myself with the skills necessary to make a difference in students’ lives, as socially responsible student affairs professional.
