A. Napavine School District uses multiple methods to solicit input from stakeholders in determining key requirements such as bond issues, community concerns, district needs, and cost analysis.
1. We use an online conversation called ThoughtExchange several times per year and have participated in these online conversations for the past three years.
2. We host monthly and quarterly district community meetings and invite parents, students, staff and community members to join us to discuss the latest updates in our district.
3. We use our quarterly district newsletter to solicit input through surveys and questionnaires included in the newsletter.
B. Managing stakeholder concerns
1. Two methods the Napavine School District uses to manage stake holder concerns are through board meetings and community meetings. Board meetings are public meetings that allow any individual to bring concerns to the board and publicly discuss issues in an open forum. Board members have the opportunity to explain their decisions and give feedback to stakeholders immediately or take time to research concerns and provide feedback at a future meeting. Community meetings also allow stakeholders to informally discuss concerns, but with the understanding that no decision will be made at that time.
2. One improvement that could be made of board meetings is to hold the board meeting in a different location. Meetings are currently held in a small room in the district office. It is not audience friendly. I was
There are board meetings where you get, the higher up people; the people in charge of certain organisation will discuss bigger problems, whether it is being budget cuts, job roles and competition, the problems that may occur is someone could be running late so the meeting will be delayed or there might not be enough stationery which means I would need to go find the right amount of equipment and have to interrupt the meeting to hand it out..
Local school board meetings are a venue that allows the public to attend and be a part of the educational process. These meetings provide community members with important information about upcoming events so that they are able to be well informed of the happenings that are taking place within the school system in which their child attends. Along with being able to learn about what is taking place within the school, it also allows parents and parent groups the opportunity to express their opinions and concerns about matters that could likely affect their children. Monthly school board meetings are a way to help establish and maintain open lines of communication between the school and community members. By allowing the community members the opportunity to be heard, it further enhances the relationship between the school and the community.
Having any kind of local government meeting is important to the society. It allows the people to be included and have more power on what is going on around them. School board meetings are especially important because the students in these schools are the future. These meetings allow the public to enhance the school district and provide whatever they can to the schools to better the students. The better the schools, the better the students, and the brighter the
At Temple City Unified School District, I have been able to participate in many meetings regarding the pediatric population health. We have discussed various topics related to the pediatric population, including primary prevention of obesity in children as well as mental health. These are important topics that are normally brushed over. I believe that the student wellness team is what is behind all of these discussion/changes and they are very effective in all that they do. Additionally, I have been able to attend more SARB meetings, which stands for student academic review board meetings. These meetings are important because it is the last resort for these students because they are truant in their courses. The support and education that the academic board provides is paramount to any consequence or punishment. I was also able to visit the high school and elementary schools with the LVNs. During these days, there were many focused assessments performed.
I went to the San Bernardino City Unified School District Board meeting that took place on October 3, 2017. In this board meeting, there were a lot of interesting topics that that were discussed. The board members voted on various topics throughout the board meeting, the community could see the members’ votes. This board meeting focused more on High School students rather than on Elementary students.
The meeting was held at the Glenwood Landing School Auditorium. It was hosted by the North Shore Schools Board of Education. It convened at six- thirty p.m. on Thursday October 6th, 2016 at 60 Cody Avenue, Glen Head, NY 11545. This meeting discussed issues, concerns, and matters that addressed the needs of the schools, students and community. The purpose of the North Shore Board of Education is to serve as a liaison between the community and the Board regarding legislative matters that have a direct bearing on fiscal or educational aspects of the North Shore Central School District. The Board of Education consists of seven individuals whose primary responsibilities include: establishing general policies consistent with the laws of New York State and the rules and regulations of the State Education Department.
On September 6th, I attended the Cleveland County school board meeting. I grew up in a nontraditional schooling environment; therefore, attending a school board meeting was a new experience for me. On the agenda, the board covered subjects such as nominating in new board members, honoring new teachers in the county schools, getting approval for a new basketball court, and asking for approval for a high school trip to Germany in the summer of 2017.
On November 9th 2015, a town hall meeting took place in my political science class. This meeting was a chance for students of the school to bring up concerns, or issues regarding there education. For their voice to be heard directly to the faculty that runs the school, the students could finally have a chance to get a valid answer. There was questions about safety, mathematics, community college education, and typical student issues.
After interviewing the Stake holders of the Leonard Cooper Charter School the following issues was noted:
While many members had different ideas, they all had one end goal in mind and that was to raise more money. Board meetings started becoming more of a collaboration and this helped member meetings be more interactive and positive. With slight changes, we were able to more easily lead our sorority sisters in designing fundraisers that met the interests of the community and effectively raise more money.
We plan to meet at least once a month to discuss what is working in our classrooms and the effect it is having on our students as literacy learners.
Every school district has board meetings throughout the school year. Unfortunately, many parents, community members, & school personnel do not attend such important meetings because they don’t realize or understand the importance of such board meetings or how informative they can be. According to Kankakee School District (2017), the Kankakee School District Board of Education is composed of seven elected members, who were elected by the citizens of Kankakee to serve a four-year term that do not receive no salary for they services, are committed to ensuring a quality of educational excellence that will enhance the opportunities and challenges facing today’s student and additional responsibilities that board members include are selection of the District superintendent, developing general polices according to wishes of the community and requirements of law, hiring school personnel based upon recommendation of the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent of Personnel, adopts salary schedules, approves funds to finance school operations, must adopt and review the annual operating budget for the District, and setting the property tax levy to produce adequate funds to meet the District’s financial needs ranks among the responsibilities of the Board of Education (Retrieved from https://www.ksd111.org/domain/68). I have never attended a community meeting or any meeting regarding my community therefore, attending this meeting for the first time was a great first experience. I was able to see how a meeting is ran and how the organization works in order to help make improvements in my community. When I went into the office the meeting was being held, I was offered an agenda and other informational forms regarding the meeting. The agenda provided information of how the organization of the meeting would be and who will be going over what topics. The meeting was a timed meeting where Richard Hernandez and Bill Houtt managed on recording to keep data. The issues that were discussed were citizen’s request for city improvements, a short review of the 2016 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) Accomplishments, which is a grant that helps build homes for low income families and was reviewed by Rhonda Haynes a community developer. Lastly, the Sidewalk at Divisadero and Rinaldi, North Visalia citizen report were also discussed by Bill Houtt a member of the committee, and construction issues in N. Visalia discussed by Lt. Brent Abbott.
