Starting since I was in second grade I was involved in the sport cheerleading. When I first started I was introduced to school cheerleading. Then in the third grade my aunt opened up a gym for select/all star cheerleading. Now, at the age of 15 I have done school cheer for eight years and all star cheer for seven. They are both very similar and different in several ways that some people just would not understand if they don’t understand cheer.
Because of the physical demand, skill set needed, and the rules set to tumble, stunt, and jump, competitive cheerleading should be considered an official sport. Yet cheerleading has rules, guidelines, training, and many other things other sports also include. It also is definitely a physical and contact sport which has caused countless injuries throughout the years of the sports existance. But, most people only know cheerleading as sideline (school) cheerleading and have not had a glimpse into the world of competitive (All Star) cheerleading.
From the time we step on that field to the time we drag ourselves off it, things need to be done quickly and efficiently. I believe that not only would I be able to make the most of our time, but I would be able to keep my section in a good mood while doing it. Despite my friends’ exasperation when it comes to my cheesy sense of humor, it often acts as a means to boost morale. For example, during sectionals when everyone is tired and sunburnt from the day’s practice, I’ll be sure to crack a joke or two to lighten the mood and have them walk away with a slightly better attitude. Not only that, I’ll even be sure to cheer them on and act as their personal cheerleader when it’s a little too hot or the practice is a little too long. As you might have guessed from the rest of my essay, I have developed strong relationships with the people in my section. Not only have I known Maggie and Abbie since our middle school days, but Kaitlyn acted as my mentor freshman year, and Kyle and I have become good friends after this past concert season. I believe that with these relationships my section will not only accept my authority, but they will respect it as well. As I care a great deal for my section, I will enjoy being able to push them to be the best they can be, and the upcoming freshman will just as easily become a part of
Being girls of the ages fourteen to eighteen we did not know how to react. We have never in our life went to school and heard all these headlines about how the program we worked so hard to build is not going to make it in our county. Knowing we had no support from anyone besides our coaches and families led us to constantly being down. We were continuously mocked of from higher ranked teams, even if we won a game. All that proceeded in our heads were that how can people think so small of a group of teenage girls. No one wanted to be last in our division anymore, but we didn't have faith in ourselves as a result of no one having confidence in us.
In Scholastic Scrimmage, I found a community of people who were as curious to learn new things as I was and as competitive (in a good way) as I was, and still am. I became captain of the Varsity Scholastic Scrimmage team in my junior year because of my dedication to the club. As captain, I established a plan in which players would be on the same teams in practices and competitions to grow as teams rather than free radicals with no direction or commitment, which was one of the major problems of the club in the past. The impact was immediate and it established chemistry between players and their teams. Many of my friends have expressed new dedication to their teams and Scholastic Scrimmage and I attribute this change to the team's first EPC
One thing that I felt was most effective last year includes giving the locker rooms candy or sweet treats. The boys took our creative and inspiring posters that we had made for them and they kept them all year long. These posters influenced them to do their best at the game that night. They also appreciated the food by thanking us at school! Even though we did not get anything back in return, I find it incredible that we can make others smile and appreciate
Sports, Athletics call it what you want has played a huge role in academics. Though the connection might not come to your head right away many students who play sports find this a good way to relieve the stress of high school and to have fun. Now, how many schools in a rural area can say they offer bowling, golf, or even girls flag football. You get my point , Sebring High School offers more than 14 sports! Now you may be saying to yourself “ Quality over quantity” but SHS has the only cheer team in the state of Florida to have 4 consecutive state titles since Cheerleading has become recognized as a sport in Florida. I mean what can I say, we have a pretty awesome athletics program.
I can’t explain the feeling of missing the playoffs senior year. All the cone drills, back pedals, workouts, and practices feel like they were a waste of time. Do not let last week’s loss get to your head! You are a talented team with speed and a lot of young talent with weapons on both sides of the ball. Defensive backs, I know two seniors were lost due to injuries and had to be replaced with two sophomores who are inexperienced. Replacing our secondary, “Lock Squad”, will be a challenge that you all can conquer. My sophomore year, I was in the same position. I was moved up and had to step up and make plays and sometimes nerves got the best of me. Sophomores, you have support from the upperclassmen. Follow their lead and go out there each and every week and get hits and picks! The best advice I can give you is to be gym rats, stay after to work on DB drills, and watch as much film as you can in your free time. Of course, you are all STUDENT-athletes so your schoolwork comes first no matter what, but you can watch film after you finish your studying. Remember that the journey to state starts here. Take it week by week and look forward to the playoffs because
Outsider Alexis who dyes her hair exotic colors, hates cheerleaders and sees the world through the lens of her camera.First sees something when her and younger sister, Kasey, notice light following them in their house. Tension builds slowly as doll-obsessed Kasey starts acting more strangely than normal, the girls' father is hospitalized after a car accident and the house itself becomes more scary and suspicious every day. Always thinking about her teenage love Carter. Never knowing when to talk to him or just go away. She has so much going on, always being the nobody. Never having anyone to talk to about these crazy things. Alexis struggling with her family and teenage love. Now dealing with her haunted house. Which is going to get the worst
Challenging my fellow classmates to become a part of something exciting and unique. Fostering and elevating school spirit by involvement in events on and off campus. Encouraging students to become active in making their society a better place through service to others, placing good and positive energy into the universe can be immeasurable and contagious. Volunteerism is not about giving away something for nothing – it’s about mutual growth through providing assistance and help to other people. We need to engage in community service projects that are a win/win for both the precipitants and students. School spirit starts with higher expectations of one’s self and surroundings, pushing for positive changes not only at the university, and community
The gargantuan size of Roncalli High School can be extremely overwhelming. The class of 2019 is the largest class Roncalli High School has ever had in its forty-six years of educational service. The difference between the number of students in my grade at Our Lady of the Greenwood and Roncalli High School is about three hundred. With three hundred freshmen to maintain, I feel that I might not receive enough attention and guidance for my issues from my counselors and teachers. Since so many students are involved with sports, most of the teams
Finally, I decided to play tennis this past fall. I started to go to the
Some suggestions to improve VHS Cheer as a whole would be to make sure every girl knows what is to be expected on game days. I feel like last football season, we didn’t know exactly what do to do heading into our first games, so having a clear image of what is expected and what we should do before the games would really help allow the team to be super organized! Also, not having specific people for every basketball games got confusing, but knowing it is very difficult to accumulate everyone's schedule to one certain day, we will still have to stitch around but to make sure the girls knew the differnt things that would occur for each basketball game before each basketball game. I can be sure that every girl is fully prepared and organized
After seeing the team have its first two practices I'm concerned if each of you truly understand the work effort, dedication, and commitment it takes to play at this level. As high school players now, every time you step on the court the mindset has to be I'm playing for the opportunity to be a collegiate student athlete. If that is not your goal then you have not place in AAU basketball, if it is your goal then your work effort must change. The lazy, slow, disinterested apporach is putting some of you in danger of no longer being on this team. If as a group you don't come back to practice Monday with a fire and passion to work hard and compete, then we will need to have a conversation with your parents about whether or not
I can improve my practices as a student trainer next year by beginning the new football season with a strong and motivated mentality now that I have experienced what will come my way, as well as be ready to learn more as a trainer now that it will be my second year being in this organization. Moreover, I will take on a leadership role, if assigned to me, with a professionally ready attitude due to my previous experiences as a leader in other organizations and will work my best to keep the organization running as it should be and be attentive to all of my fellow student trainers so that they may stay on task as
