Although there are many students that have diabetes eating disorders through the United states school lunches are the most well fed for many children around the world. Many around do not have dinner on the table for of children low fat foods are being place in many school lunches they should not be in the Cafeteria. First and foremost, cafeteria food is for children is a good way to let kids to have food most kids don't have food at home and their parents could be busy for work and they can't make it home. Children also may not want to eat at home and just at school.
In addition, there are many children have many diseases and disorders in the US today but for cafeteria food there needs to be a side for the healthy and one side
Some schools order fast food. The reason why some schools eat fast food is because they don’t have enough teachers or time to cook. The students will be use to eating school lunch than fast foods. Fast food caries more calories than school lunch.
One of the most controversial issues today is the question of how to address childhood obesity. Because of the large proportion of meals that children, particularly low-income children, consume in schools, cafeteria food has been targeted by dietary reformers as in need of a major overhaul. However, while many different types of new school menus have been proposed, the extent to which healthier foods can be offered remains controversial. Opponents to reform state that children will not eat healthier lunches, and that changing the food that children eat will have minimal impact, since the children will either bring food from home or eat food at home that is more 'kid friendly.'
Since 2009 Schools have been improving there healthy choices of food like fresh fruits and salad bars, but those foods take longer to eat (Hellmich). Turning school lunches into an actual sit down meal rather than a feeding frenzy is a good way of improving health (Parker-Pope). Students usually have less than 20 minutes to eat lunch which makes it less likely for them to choose the healthy choice (Elsevier). Kids often like to eat there favorite foods first, not giving them enough time to eat the healthy food (Hellmich). An increase in school lunches could encourage students to eat the healthier choice(5 Elsevier). School nutritionist suggest that students need to have atlas 20 minutes to eat (Hellmich). Research shows that when people consume meals faster they take in more calories because they get hungry sooner (Chen). The shorter lunch periods are starting to lead to more and more obese and overweight kids ( Hellmich). Doctors are saying there are more and more kids getting diabetes and other illnesses due to the lunches and something needs to be done about it
One in three Americans kids are obese or over weight which is a staggering and alarming rate at the same time. So looking 20 years into the future that number could double if nothing is said and done about what we are eating. The public school food in school lunches are unhealthy for many alarming reasons, but not much can be done immediately due to strict guidelines and budgets that schools must follow. A lot of it goes to kids not exercising, and more time watching TV, or playing on the computer. And now days more families have less time to make nutritious home made meals. So they tend to eat School cafeteria lunches that have minimal nutrition’s and harmful calories. To prevent your kid from being over weight mean adapting what you eat, and having to exercise at least 60 minutes a day. If the changes are made to change school lunches, it can help them from being obese, children can improve their lifestyle choices, and lastly it prevents them from getting harmful diseases.
Children in America are faced with different choices every day. Some of these choices can be either good or bad for them. But these children don't really know the consequences of their actions, but the school does. Schools are serving unhealthy and un properly cooked meals to children every single day. These food companies make big money from these schools because the schools just buy the lunches so the kids will eat something. The schools don't really care what goes into the students stomachs, but as long as the school meets the requirements it's okay. Then the students just eat it because it looks and taste good, but they don't have an idea of what their eating is made out of or where it has been before. The government needs to start making school lunches more healthy for these students, if not then then unfortunately the number of obese children will rise.
Not only do both of the reasons above prove and show great examples of why or why not schools really should or shouldn't let school cafeterias be transformed into fast food courts supplied by fast food companies, in the end it's the school's themselves who make the choices to change the foods that they supply. Therefore here are three examples at which they can use to see if there school is even ready to make the leap toward fast food companies supplying lunches. First the school will need to be sure students can afford the lunches, second make sure the school can afford it as well, and thirdly the schools will need to have make sure the students are willing to go along with it. Although there is several more steps in which changing to a fast
In LAUSD, students throw away over $100,000 in food every day. That adds up to a loss of around $18,000,000 annually, which is 10% of their food, wasted (Watanabe). Our nation's schools are losing billions of dollars annually, and our weak economy is paying for school meals that many students refuse to eat, despite the efforts of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.The government is making attempts to reduce childhood obesity by regulating school meals, PE, and health education, but it has all been to no avail. The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act is actually harming both the kids and their schools because the meals are more expensive, the yen up unappetizing, and many kids are left with empty bellies.
With more than 30 million children eating in a school cafeteria every day in the United
Many people believe that students have plenty of time to sit down and consume their food, but sadly for students at CHS who attend A lunch do not have that luxury. We should have a longer A lunch at CHS, because students who have A lunch only have about 18 minutes to eat there food, and it's absolute chaos and obviously not enough room.
I don’t think school districts should fire all employees who don’t follow cafeteria rules. I think this should be based on a case by case bases. In this particular case I do understand why the lunch lady went above and beyond to help the hungry child but there could have been a better approach to handle the situation- where in the end every one came out happy. She was noting following school policies, but in her mind she believed she needed to do something. Based off the teacher’s quick decision and actions she believed what she did was right and didn’t have any thoughts about the consequences that may follow as long as what she was doing was benefiting something or someone in the
What is this food doing to our children? The childhood obesity epidemic has increased because of the contribution of junk food that is being served in public schools. It has been found that children who eat fatty school foods are more likely to become obese than those who brought lunch from home. Why is this we may ask has a lot to do with the above student that I stated brought their lunch from home daily. You can count the intake of calories that is in your lunchbox but you have no idea what is in the food from you school, half of the time you will not even know what the food is. Also, the specials that are provided for students on special food days increases their calorie intake as well such as; pizza day or wing day. On these days children have shown to intake more food because these are the days that they provide greasy foods that taste swell and the children like them so they will gravitate to them because they do not have the proper knowledge to know what this food can do to your body.
Nationally, about 17% of people under the age of 20, about 12.5 million are considered obese. School districts that serve students food that are high in calories and fat are to blame for the growing numbers of obese children. Although school lunches provide students food at minimal costs, the poor quality of food served delivers inadequate nutrition and is responsible for the rising numbers of obese minors in the United States. In order to combat this growing problem, school districts must limit student choices in the lunchroom and provide healthier food nationally. Although some school districts may argue this, it is necessary to do so as school districts in Pennsylvania and Mississippi and university studies support this claim.
For the past 22 years, the public school system has been serving unhealthy foods to kids (Psyche Pascual).Schools are changing salad bars for ice cream bars and fruit for candy. Your body is not designed for harsh amounts of sodium, fat, and sugar. In the school system, kids should be allowed to only choose healthy alternatives. The community and parents need to change laws to promote healthy nutrition in schools. There are overwhelmingly too many obese children because of school lunch menu. Fast food should not be served in schools because it is not healthy, students cannot focus, and fast food has harmful chemicals.
Kids/teens are getting diagnosed with diabetes every day. Some even end up obese and get bullied about it. I wouldn’t like a life like that. School lunch isn’t really helping out on that situation either. They’re feeding us things that are harming us, just so that they can make money. And it’s wrong! I think that school lunches should be healthier, and it should mean something to the people that we’re getting obese or diabetes. It is their fault we the young generation end up like this. School lunches are a hazard for us, later in our lives we’ll struggle to lose weight. And not just that but some diabetes can kill us, like type 2 diabetes. Oh and no one wants to be made fun of their whole lives, for being overweight. Then there’s the other
I think that taking all the uneaten food from school cafeterias and composting it is a great and very earth efficient idea. Many kids do not eat all the food they are given at lunch. So this idea the food that kids were going to throw away, so it can go rot in a landfill, can go towards a good cause and do something more then rot.
