Having good security in schools is becoming more and more of an issue in our society. School administrations need a good way to keep track of students in many aspects of school. The government gives money to schools and expects good and accurate records of their students. Schools are changing rapidly. New technologies are being implemented everyday in our schools. A fingerprint scan scans the small pattern in the center of your finger. Your fingerprint is different from every other person on the face of the planet. Even identical twins have different fingerprints. Fingerprint scans are safe, fast, and easy to use. You will not have to worry about being misinformed on your students. There is virtually no chance you will get the wrong information. The chance that a student will get confused with another student is 1 in 200 million. An acceptable chance, no doubt. However, you may ask yourself why would we use this fancy technology instead of PINs or identification cards. Well, there are many downsides to these. PINs can be forgotten, swapped, or stolen. Over the past decade, school safety has become a major issue. This issue became relevant after the Columbine High School massacre in 1999. It was a terrible shock that hit the nation. Since then, school shootings have become much more of threat. Then, in 2012, a gunman entered the Sandy Hook Elementary school and created mass hysteria. Since this attack, schools across the nation have been trying to step up security. These different security tactics have come in many different ways. Some schools increased their security team, while others installed new alarms. Most schools have been practicing school intruder drills. Our school is starting to use ID cards. This ID card must be worn at all times and be clearly visible. The card simply is a picture, name, and barcode. However, is implementing this form of security really necessary? There are many other tactics that should be used in place of these ID cards.

Anyone out of the 1400 kids could easily bring a weapon into the school to cause a massacre. Should the stored digital copy be stolen and used for fraudulent transactions, the user would have little recourse to fix the situation as they cannot change their prints.
