The position of the Science Graphics Intern came to my attention through the University of Evansville’s website, UE JobLink. Currently a sophomore archaeology major at the University of Evansville, I plan to pursue museum studies with my degree. This internship will help me gain the necessary experience to pursue a successful career in future years. At the present, I hold a part time position at the local restaurant, Azzip Pizza. For this position, I regularly rotate between the Make Station and Cut to efficiently assist in the operation of the store. Azzip’s quick-paced environment taught me effective skills when dealing with issues, such as providing exceptional customer service and proficiently maintaining a clean and fully stocked store.

During the fall semester of my junior year, my Aerospace Engineering teacher had a sign outside of his door about a program at NASA for high school juniors. Since I was interested in engineering, specifically Aerospace and NASA I decided to apply. So that night at the end of September I came home and filled out the application and wrote the essay and letters to my state representatives. I had told my parents at that point and they were excited and of course hoped I made it. I thought, “There are thousands applying and I won’t make it.”. Little did I know how wrong that thought was. When I received an email from NASA it stated Congratulations and that was when I was like: “WOW!”. I was shocked to say the least, but proud that I had made it into this prestigious program at NASA, that has now changed my life.
This internship focused on education within the five part museum system. My role included giving tours of the Art on Campus Collection and helping with programming. Giving tours of the Art on Campus Collection allowed me to connect with students from different majors and teach them the practice and benefits of Visual Literacy. Facilitating these tours allowed me to develop skills to better accommodate the varying learning needs of students. This internship also consisted of helping plan and implement programs and events. I assisted in planning events and programs for the museums to connect students with art and helped in planning aspects of classes including one on
So many people see history as something dry and lifeless but in reality it is a study that is full of life. There is no better way to see this than through the lens of archaeological artifacts. The people of the past are intrinsically a part of these objects. They were shaped by human hands; some were used in everyday life while others only meant to be appreciated as art. In any case, they show the vitality of history which can sometimes be obscured by the centuries. I want to work with a collection that deals with archaeological artifacts, and ideally I would like to work with objects of Greek or Roman origins. One day I would like the opportunity to create an exhibit where the viewer can see how the objects relate to a whole as well as their own individual characteristics. I want others to have the same sort of experience I had while walking through the Byzantine and Christian Museum; I want them to have a moment of connection to the past and see how alive history can be. I am especially interested in the courses that the Museology program offers which teach the proper methods to curate archaeological collections. The experience of working with the objects in the Burke Museum will benefit my goal of curating a

When I stumbled across Hamilton College’s website, I saw that my ideas about an art-oriented liberal arts curriculum were exemplified. Upon reading about the opportunities offered at Hamilton, like the Wellin Museum, I could see myself living and learning there. I enjoy creating
Currently, I am a sophomore studying Molecular Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nevada, Reno. As a college student, one of the most important aspect of my education career is to gain different kind of experiences from opportunities that are offer at the university. Personally, I believe that completing a paid, local internship can give students, such as myself, the chance to gain valuable work experience and build networks and connections, while applying knowledge and skills in real life settings. Every type of experiences that exist, such as internships, offer me the chance to enhance my strengths, understand the world around me, and to push myself in continuing to develop as an individual to become successful in life. For example, I was selected as an art intern for the Summer Business Institute Program in Summer 2014. Throughout the eight weeks of exploring to arts, I had an opportunity to work with a team of artists to create a mural and an art piece for two local community centers in Las Vegas as well as organizing a civil engagement project for a neighborhood that have families who are in need of financial aid. As a result, we were thanked by the families to sponsor an event for their children to enjoy art for a day. Reflecting back on

My name is Elizabeth Dubé and I am currently a sophomore at Cheyenne Mountain High School. I am interested in following a career path related to biology, chemistry, and/or research. My passion in Liberal Arts began when I was in high school when I discovered a lively interest in Art, history and literature. From there my curiosity for Art, History and literature quickly grew from an interest to a true love and passion. I found myself with a newfound eagerness to learn the hand of drawing, to study cultures and history as well as becoming a reader. My newly found passion led me to enroll at Louisiana State University to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Secondary Art Education. During one of my semesters at LSUS I enrolled in my first Art History course. Having recently obtained such a vibrant appreciation for the subject, I immediately fell in love with the Art, history and cultures we explored, particularly

While there I have processed and cataloged repatriated collections and am instructing and supervising an intern in collection
