Scrubs and a Cape A nurse is described as someone who gives medical attention to a sick person according to Dictionary.com. Much like the definition of a mom is the person who gives birth to you, however is this all they do? If such a simple definition can not describe everything your mother does for you then how can such a such simple definition explain everything a nurse does. When you think of a Mom you think of someone you loves you, cares for you, cooks for you, picks up after you, and worries about your overall health. Can you imagine taking care of sick patients everyday; cleaning them, feeding them, and giving them medication? A nurse does this to hundreds of different people every week and then goes home to take care of their own
Nurse – A nurse works with people of all different ages. There are many different types of nurses but every nurse’s main role is to be caring and nurse their patient back to health.
In order to decide on an accurate and well-described definition of what nursing is I sought multiple sources and decided upon two that I feel are representative of nursing. The American Nurses Association (ANA, 2015) declares, “Nursing is the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations.” As defined by the World Health Organization (WHO, 2015)
The Pullman Palace Car Company manufactured railroad cards. The workers were not part of a union and lived in the town of Pullman where the company controlled the rent, utilities, and politics. Due to a poor economy, the Pullman Palace Car Company laid off many employees and cut wages for those remaining by 25% and didn’t lower the costs in the town of Pullman. The ARU came on board and made numerous attempts to negotiate with the company and none were successful. I agree with the workers striking considering they were in a lose-lose situation with their employer controlling their entire life – not only their employment but their living conditions. The company had no reason to want to deal with them because they controlled everything.
What nursing is defined as in my opinion, is more of a philosophy. I see nursing as a combination of beliefs and ideals that revolve around the concepts of compassion, integrity, and sacrifice. I have always viewed nurses as caring and compassionate towards their patents. There is a quality in their personalities in that they truly care about who they are working with. Nurses are also ones who can be trusted, as you know that they regard their job to the highest degree. Nurses will not compromise, and will do whatever necessary to ensure the health of their patients. Sacrifice is another concept I associate with nursing. Nurses put their patients above themselves and will gladly go out of their way to ensure their wellness. If I had
The American Nursing Association describes nursing as the profession or practice of providing care for the sick and infirm. They say it is the duty of nurses to protect, promote and optimize the health and abilities of a patient. It is also the duty of those in the profession of nursing to prevent illness and injury, facilitate healing, and alleviate suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response. Nurses also advocate for the care of patients families. Nurses play a very important role in healthcare and they are the primary caregiver for patients.
Identity Can i see a raise of hands, who in this room listens to music which you consider to be socially conscious? (ie lyrics which care about social problems) How many of you here identify personally with what these artists are saying? Socially Conscious music became very prevalent during the 1960s and remained widespread throughout the 70s, with soul music taking over from folk music as one of the strongest voices of protest in American music.
According to Oxford dictionaries.com, a nurse is ‘a person trained to care for the sick or infirm, especially in a hospital.’
With that in mind, my personal definition of nursing, although quite impossible to define, would be the science and art of providing holistic care to a client; physically, mentally, physiologically, spiritually and emotionally. I firmly believe that nursing care is not solely confined to an individual as nursing care tend to extend beyond the patient to family members and friends who care about their loved one. There are very few definitions out there that would capture the essence of my role in nursing, and I would entrust myself to repeat my
A nurse does this by helping the patient staying comfortable and warm for physical, emotionally by providing therapeutic communication, and spiritually by inspiring purpose in the patient's life or providing religious support in their time of need.
Nurses provide excellent patient care, teach patients about health conditions, and give advice and support to patients and their families. Nurses have a variety of duties. They must monitor and record patient symptoms, take vital signs, watch patients diet and physical activity, supervise less skilled nurses, and order and interpret tests to access the condition of the patient. Nursing can be a wonderful, caring, and thoughtful job. However, to other nurses: nursing can be a difficult, tiring, and stressful job. Any job can be tough but nursing is emotionally and physically draining on a person. Nursing can be such a burdensome and demanding job sometimes because of the long hours, the exam to become a nurse, and dealing with other people.
A nurse is a health care professional who cares for ill or disabled individuals, their families and communities ensuring that they attain, maintain or recover optimum health and functioning (Crosta, 2013). There are several kinds of nurses classified depending on their education and experiences. As an example,
Respectively, the American Nurses Association (2010c) currently defines nursing as “the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, prevention of illness and injury, alleviation of suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human response, and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities, and populations” (p.10).
Nursing is a practice in which nurses promote health and the well-being of patients. I believe that nursing is not only a job that prevents and cures illness, but has a deeper meaning and understanding. Becoming a nurse gives the opportunity to maximize and promote patients’ well-being. It is a way to learn and understand new perspectives and expand prior knowledge, to build relationships with patients, community, and other nurses, in addition to learning how to empathize and realize the patient’s needs, and to value and see people as human beings. I think even with the list given is not enough to define or explain a nurse. I believe being a nurse is a diverse and immeasurable experience, and what happens in this field is unknowing and uncertain. My goal in nursing practices is to take in life experiences and use the skills and ideas learned to shape me to become a better nurse and a better person.

A mother is someone who can take the place of all others but no one can take the place of her. There are many different definitions you could use to describe your mother. My mother, Pam Krull, fits every one of those. Today I decided to pick the three that I thought was most important to me. I admire and aspire to be like my mother because of how supportive, how selfless, and how loving she is.
