One of the most catastrophic events America has faced were the September eleventh terrorist attacks. Our nation faced one of the most damaging attacks in our history and it was up to our president, George W. Bush, to address the entire nation and assure everyone that America still remains a strong and functioning country. Our President George Bush was called upon to address the nation, a nation that was currently suffering from loss, fear, and despair. His goal was to persuade Americans to take comfort in the effort being put forth in resolving the aftermath of the attacks and the fear they caused. Recognizing his audience as being innocent victims of an unknown evil, President Bush ultimately had to present a speech that mastered various techniques
On September 11, 2001, George W. Bush delivered his 9/11 Address to the Nation at 8:30 PM to all Americans. This speech, broadcasted throughout the nation from within the Oval Office just hours after the terrorist hijacking and the crash on the Twin Towers, reassured American citizens during a time of devastation and need of proper leadership. (Eidenmuller). Through rhetoric intended to convey strength and the actions America had already taken to combat this tragedy, Bush instilled hope in the American people and provided them with a sense of unification.
The news comes in as a good look for the US and that accomplishment somewhat ensured the re-election of Obama in 2012. A western diplomat described the news as a "game changer"- not just for al-Qaida, but also for US foreign policy in Pakistan and Afghanistan, a region embroiled in turmoil and violence in 2001.Some fear that Bin Ladens death could spark a precipitous US withdrawal from the region with the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan still unresolved("Osama Bin Laden is Dead").
On September 11, 2001, George W. Bush gave a speech to the American citizens following the horrible and tragic terrorist attacks that had taken place. Bush’s purpose is to create unity among the nation and to build his presidential credibility. United States President, George W. Bush, in his speech, 9/11 Address to the Nation, emphasizes how everyone should move forward and remain strong after the tragic events. Bush appeals to the audience using pathos, logos, and ethos while adopting a grieving, yet hopeful tone in order to tranquilize the people of America.
President Bush, shares his view on the matter throughout this speech. Bush’s purpose is to try and help Americans not panic during such a terrifying situation that has changed American history. Since Bush understands what Americans or people in general the world must be feeling, he is able to address the matter in a calm and collected way. In “Bush’s 9/11 speech,” the author, President George Bush, uses various rhetorical devices to reinforce his position on the 9/11 attack.
September 11, 2001 was a tragic part of history for the United States of America. On September 11, four planes crashed down by hijackers at the Pentagon, the Twin Towers, and a Pennsylvania field. The Pentagon and World Trade Center were the primary buildings where the Al Qaeda wanted to attack. The White House was another target, however they never made it. Later that night, President George W. Bush gave a speech about 9/11 in the Oval Office. George W. Bush inspired America of their safety and security of his confident tone, religious beliefs, word choice.
One of the most detrimental and traumatic events of United States history involves the terrorist attacks on the day of September 11th, in 2001. September 11th is a day countless Americans will never forget. Because our nation encountered such a horrific attack, it was up to our president during the time, President George W. Bush, to address the country. Many Americans suffered loss and fear; therefore, former President George Bush’s goal was to heal and comfort the nation by persuading them to see the light within the darkness. Bush’s speech was a success because he showed America’s togetherness and solidarity by creating an emotional connection to the audience; moreover, by responding appropriately to the attacks, he presented himself with a leadership and role no one else could take.
September 11, 2001 was a day that everyone who was old enough to remember will remember for the rest of their lives. I was in the fourth grade when the World Trade Centers were crashed into. I remember our principal coming on the intercom and saying that we were not allowed to turn our televisions on. I did not understand the magnitude of the situation until I got home and my parents explained it to me. I remember that every plane I saw over my head scared me and I was afraid that a plane was going to be crashed into my home or school. The general population reaction to the attack was that of hysteria and worry. People were afraid of flying. People also feared that this was only the precursor to an even bigger attack that was being planned on the United States. The public wanted someone to blame for the incident and they wanted to know why the government had not prevented the attack if they had been given intelligence that an attack might happen. The years leading up to this terrible day in history were full of tough decisions. No one can say that the government was not interested in terrorism at all. They had small departments in the FBI and CIA that looked at and interpreted terrorism related intelligence. The decisions the government had to make changed the United States forever. There was not one factor that defined how the government dealt with terrorism collectively. The government had to take into account not only the actions to take against
Social and cultural aspects play a significant role in the media’s unflattering depiction of Islamic extremists, which correlates directly to military spending and relations with the Middle East. Since 9/11, when Arabs attacked the U.S. on behalf of Afghan Islamic extremists, relations with the Middle East have been tense, according to Thomas Kean and others in "National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States” from the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. Kean and others report that repercussions of the 9/11 attacks included homeland security improvements. Dov S. Zakheim, former U.S. Undersecretary of Defense and Chief Financial Officer, similarly discussed that relations worsened after 9/11 in "September 11: A Decade Later What 9/11 Has Wrought”, which details the effects
On September 11th 2001, the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airplanes and carried out terrorist attacks against the United States. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center twin towers. The third hit the Pentagon outside Washington, and the final plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Nearly 3,000 people were killed as a result, and this tragic event defined the presidency of George W. Bush (History.com Staff). Shortly after the attacks, President Bush delivered a powerful speech that helped unify the American people, defy the terrorists, and call the citizens to action. In his 9/11 speech, President Bush successfully uses rhetorical devices to address the terrorism, unite people, and give hope to his audience.
9/11 changed how we all viewed the world. The safety that was once felt is no longer taken for granted. That day changed how we think, how we act, and may even cause us to pause before going out. Since that day millions have been spent on ensuring such an event does not happen again. In addition, an entire new department of the federal government was created to watch and centralize security in the United States, the Department of Homeland Security. All done in the name of security. While an event of the magnitude of 9/11 has not repeated itself, others similar to it have. The attacks at Fort Hood, Boston Marathon, and recent school shootings remind us all that there are still individuals out there seeking to cause harm. This means that
The message of Obama about the case of Osama Bin Laden reveals that the incident of Osama’s death which was avenge of US for 9/11 attack, brought the satisfaction, comfort and happiness in US nation. But it was not the end of terrorism. This incident puts long lasting impacts and in future Al Qaida will remain against US and can do attacks. So Obama’s message showed that instead of death of Osama Bin Laden, they must be vigilant in future. Obama’s speech also showed proud that what US wants it was done and achieved, so in future they also fight and never leave their enemy. He also thanked to all members of team who made this plan successful and he mention the counter terrorism department of Pakistan which helped them a lot to accomplish this attack. (Obama B., 2011). And the message of Leon Panetta describe that this incident is a source of satisfaction and comfort for many familiesespecially those were inflicted by the 9/11 attack. On the other hand he also have same views about future that it was end of Osama not Al Qaida so they must remain vigilant in future to avoid these attacks.(Panetta, 2011)
Operation Enduring Freedom, the American-led international effort to exile the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and destroy Osama bin Laden’s terrorist network based there. Within two months, U.S. forces had effectively removed the Taliban from operational power, but the war continued, as U.S. and coalition forces attempted to defeat a Taliban insurgency campaign based in neighboring Pakistan. Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the September 11th attacks, remained at large, when he was finally tracked down and killed by U.S. forces at a hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan. In 2011, President Barack Obama announced the beginning of large-scale
Osama bin Laden communicated with his organization and the world through several different methods. Before 9/11 bin Laden was already a well-known terrorist. His communication skills and ability to lead an organization were comparable to that of a CEO of a company. (Hoffman, 2003) He was able to easily relay what he wanted done and it got carried out. His methods of communication include: emails, couriers, word of mouth and violence. Each of these proved useful in bin Laden’s quest.
