The current second amendment is written as follows “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”, these words have been written as such for two-hundred-twenty-five years, it is overdue and update. An article on scholastic.com gives a brief list of changes made to the constitution and why the changes were made “You may have heard the U.S. Constitution called "a living document.” Though it may seem like a dry piece of paper to you, it really is designed to live
The Second Amendment was adopted in 1791 but over the years it is not suitable for the modern society. Big things have changed over the years since the Constitution was written, consequently, its contents do not reflect the necessary changes for the benefit of all citizens. Violence is out of control and many people are killed by guns each year. The second amendment needs to be changed because we need to ban guns and make our society safer.
What did our founding fathers want to accomplish with the implementation of the 2nd amendment within the bill of rights? Well, the second amendment made it clear that in order to have a free state, a militia would be required to ensure the security of that right and a right of basic citizenship is the ability to keep and bear arms. As time went on, the 2nd Amendment was quite a topic of controversy, some cases even went all the way to the supreme court. The subsequent rulings and findings of the supreme court relating to the 2nd amendment and still applies to modern America.
As today's society struggles with the continuous problems surrounding gun violence, many Americans are questioning whether or not our Second Amendment is applicable to our society as of today. Undeniably, our circumstances as a nation in the United states differs dramatically from when The Constitution adopted the Second Amendment in 1791. This document states that "A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." At this time our founding fathers had no idea of the challenges we would currently face as a nation and recently the United States recorded its deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S history. Proving that the Second Amendment has not been applicable with today's society, it being outdated, the frequent tragedies through gun violence, and the lack of regulations currently being displayed.
One of the most controversial topics in American society today is gun control. This issue has many people debating how America should perceive the second amendment. Many view the second amendment as outdated, irrelevant, or possibly dangerous in today’s society. Others believe the founding fathers’ beliefs and reasons for including the right to bear arms are often misinterpreted resulting in a fight to protect its place in the Bill of Rights. The pushers for more gun laws and the NRA are in unending debate on whether or not the second amendment continues to be relevant today. In order to understand each side’s perspective, one must know the history of the second amendment, its evolution, and how it relates to today’s society.
The Second Amendment to the U.S Constitution is fiercely debated and interpreted differently among American citizens and argued with between the Legislative and Judicial branches of our government. “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” (Brooks). Because of the Second Amendment, citizens have the right to possess firearms and use them for protection. When researching the origin of the Second Amendment, its modern applications, and its relevance in today’s society, one can determine the Second Amendment’s current implications on today’s society.
The Second Amendment should not be here because you never know who has a gun and if they do are they going to shoot is the question. The Second Amendment should be here because it they do pull out a gun on you, you are pretty much standing up for yourself. If you did not do anything they are going to jail for their life. The crime rates have went down because of the Second Amendment. Guns don’t kill people, it's how the people use the gun to kill people. The Second Amendment gives you more
Thank you, Chris, for that kind introduction and for your tremendous work on behalf of our Second Amendment. Thank you very much. I want to also thank Wayne LaPierre for his unflinching leadership in the fight for freedom. Wayne, thank you very much. Great.
The gun laws in the United States are an open source of debate, every time a new mass shooting happens, the fiery debate starts again. The discussion is divided in two; those who want to keep the guns in order to feel safe and see it as a basic right (gun right activists) on one side. And those who mean that guns are dangerous and should be harder to get (gun control activists). I believe it would be a good solution to amend the 2nd amendment. As the people still would be able to have their guns, but in less quantity and having to put more work into getting one. Reasons for amendment/repealing of the 2nd Amendment:
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” The Second Amendment was written in 1791 when weapons were not as advanced as today’s armory. People change, presidents change, guns change, and the world changes, so why shouldn't the law change? As a 17 year old student I am scared for my life when I go to the movies, to a concert, to school, or even by simply walking in a public street because in the back of my mind I fear I'll be a victim in a shooting. While I believe the second amendment was made to protect civilians please consider changing the age of owning a gun from 18 to 21 and up, better background checking and restricting certain kinds of weapons being sold in stores.
We need to keep the second amendment the same and not change one thing to it. If we didn’t have the guns then we can’t defend ourselves. People want to change the amendment to where we can’t buy guns as easy, and they want to try changing it to where we got to have license to own one. If we keep the amendment the same then we can protect ourselves from any danger: “The first is that the amendment was meant to ensure that individuals have the absolute right to own firearms” (Mount, 2011). This means that we should have it to where we have the right to own guns and to keep it easier to buying and shooting them. Another reason, the military has guns, and they need them to fight: “The second is that the amendment was meant to ensure that States
In my opinion, the second amendment should stay the same and not be changed. People should have the right to have guns. What was the point of making that an amendment if we are just going to change that? For instance, if someone were to be out in the middle of nowhere I believe they should be able to have a gun on them because there are strange people in the world and you never know what could happen. Even if we were to try to get rid of all of the guns people would probably hide some and the people without them would then be in danger. I think that guns are used because they also help people not only protect people from others, but also from the wild or just to go out and hunt some animals for some food.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution peruses: "A very much managed Militia, being important to the security of a free State, the privilege of the individuals to keep and remain battle ready, might not be encroached." Such dialect has made extensive open deliberation in regards to the Amendment's planned degree. From one perspective, some accept that the Amendment's expression "the privilege of the individuals to keep and remain battle ready" makes an individual established a good fit for nationals of the United States. Under this "individual right hypothesis," the United States Constitution limits authoritative bodies from denying gun ownership, or at any rate, the Amendment renders prohibitory and prohibitive regulation hypothetically
“All men are created equal,” a true statement or false hope? Liberty, Democracy, Rights, Equality, and Opportunity. are all outlined in the Declaration of Independence as goals set for America. However, it is debated today if America has lived up to the Ideals. It is more evident that America has not lived up to the Ideals expressed, especially those of Rights, Equality, and Opportunity. As the government increases gun control laws, Americans feel as if their 2nd Amendment Right is being compromised. Some American citizens believe they are being denied things because they are considered un-Equal. Lastly, gay couples believe they deserve the same opportunities given to straight couples. “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men
On December 15, 1791 ten of the amendments were passed to the U.S.A constitution, known as Bill Of Rights. These amendments were written by the fathers of U.S.A to protect the basic rights of U.S. citizens. One of the amendments that I see people really want to make a change is the second amendment which means ,"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."What is my position on this topic? I have lived in the United States for ten years. For ten years I have seen a lot things that went around me. Especially criminals. I don't want to make any changes in the second amendment. And I will say why? First of all I do agree, people should protect
