Kids would actually have time to eat their food. We students have no time to eat the food we paid for. Because not only do we have to wait in ginormous lines for the majority of the time. There are some of us who have to
Imagine sitting at a desk all day listening to a teacher drone on and hand you a worksheet right after that. Well if your school day was 9 hours and 30 minutes instead of 8 hours, then that's what you would have to do. You would be there till 4:30 in the afternoon. Who wants to be there for that with only lunch as a break? Every class would be about 18 minutes longer. Which is why I don’t agree with schools extending the day because it can cause sleep deprivation, result in more kids getting in trouble, and more kids zoning out.
The school board plans to add one and a half hours to school each day. Do you agree or disagree? I disagree strongly on this topic because school is already stressful and having to do one hour and a half of work each school day probably make us just absolutely hate school. That one hour and a half can change a lot, because of being so bored because could do some very dumb things which could cause people's lives to be changed.
Some people think that we should have an 8 hour school day. Having a longer school could help
Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student’s full concentration, “If your student doesn’t have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson and have student’s full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs” (Medina). And also in addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class compared to 5 minutes, so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period.
If an hour and half of school were added every day, students would miss after school activities. Students will miss the fun extracurricular activities. and students won’t get the exercise they need.
Many parents and teachers believe it to be the fact that students stay up late and don’t get enough sleep, however there may be an underlying factor that may be out of a student’s control. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute highly recommends students, especially teenagers, get an average night of sleep around nine to ten hours. The easy solution would be for students to sleep early, however students are naturally wired to sleep late (Gilpin.) Sleep patterns change as you grow older, the pressure to sleep becomes more delayed to the later evening. This pressure to sleep is controlled according to a person’s circadian rhythm, which is the biological clock of
When a student is not focused, they find it more difficult to complete their work as comprehensively. This results in the students having to complete a greater amount of homework, which would lead to them staying up later. When students are not focused, they will not comprehend the work that the teacher is explaining and will not understand the content of what is being taught. When students do not understand the concepts taught, their grades may decline. When the student is not focused it also increases the chances of doing their homework incorrectly. Another reason why schools should have a later start is because the student may arrive sleep deprived. This results in the students’ exhaustion during class and increases their chances of falling asleep during school hours. Unfocused, tired students also have a difficult time comprehending the work that is assigned to them due to the student not being fully awake. If a student is taking a test while their mind is not rested, they potentially will not do as well as they might have if they had taken the test at a later time, having had an acceptable amount of sleep. Early school hours also result in car crashes caused by
First, schools should not change their start times because it helps parents as well. One reason how that supports my claim is older kids can help younger children. When kids in middle and high school get home before their parents so they
them to not have enough time for sleep. Naturally, students would be able to focus better on the class material if they were awake
In conclusion, high schools should keep the time to start and end school the way it is. It is not worth it if students comes back from school later in the afternoon and doesn’t know what to do before dark comes. Even if they do know what they’re gonna do like probably go to work, do after school activities, and activities outside from home. The whole school gets affected because for teachers who have a young child they won’t be able to do anything they want before their child comes home from school. So if everyone get’s a negative affect by this then it’s truly not worth the money to change the
Well that would require us to add 1 hour and 45 minutes to each day. This would have us going to 5:00 p.m. each day. Some students get to school at 6:20 for athletics. If they had to stay until five, they will have been at school for 10 hours and 40 minutes which will easily over stress and work these students. Even those who don’t have athletics have to be at the school by 8:00 a.m. and would have to stay till 5:00 p.m. The classic american work hours are 9-5. That composes a 8 hour shift which is what most people work. This means that students will be here for 1 hour more than the number of hours most adults work.
Secondly, students have limited resources during school hours. Once students are on campus they cannot leave at their
-Students work on homework until it is time for bed. -Most kids still have to prepare for the next day after they have finished their homework. -By the time students finally get into bed, accomplishing
It becomes a problem to manage time effectively and distribute it to have balance. A lot of students are used to leaving all the work for the last minute. They follow a false idea that everything can be done before the deadline. However, it is not the case with education. Procrastination makes students do things halfway and not retain all needed information.
