This anthology contains a variety of poems that highlight the highs and lows of transitioning from childhood to adulthood, which is, growing up. The poems in this anthology are ‘Remembering’ by Tallace Bissett, ‘Photograph’ by Nickelback, ‘Seeking Adulthood’ by Maysie Stott Morrison, ‘The Singer’ by Medbh McGuckian and ‘A Touch of Love’ by Cindy Zelinski. This anthology explores all aspects, both positive and negative encounters, which come with growing up. Students from all cultures can relate to these poems because everyone experiences the changes from childhood to adulthood. These poems come from all different cultures such as Britain, Ireland, Canada, and Australia. These poems were all written in the 20th and 21st centuries.

This free verse poem is spiritual and dramatic, and relatable to teenagers because they are going through the same changes and figuring out their own lives. This poem cleverly uses poetic figures of speech such as this metaphor, “Moulding a future with my bare hands” that represents how you can build or mould your own future like clay. It is a message to all teenagers, and young adults to not always rely on their parents’ opinion and learn to be more independent.
The poem ‘The Singer’ by Medbh McGuckian is about about the poet reflecting on her school life. This free verse poem is relatable to teenagers because they too are growing up and working through the process of school and studying as the girl in the poem is. The style of this poem is a little sad and nostalgic. This poem has no particular rhyme scheme because of the free verse structure. It contains no poetic devices, however, an audience would feel emotionally moved by this
