Segregation has changed society in many ways. Overtime, most people thought that it was okay for whites and blacks to be separated, but overall segregation is wrong. It was then officially known as constitutional. This led to the start of the Civil Rights War where African Americans fought for their equality. Segregation is wrong because both races were not equal, but a few were recognised for fighting back for their rights, and started boycotts to the stop the segregationists for protesting.

I say that segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set apart. Many Americans don’t want to admit it, but I’ll say that segregation is still around, sometimes by design and sometimes by choice. According to a study last year, 43% of Latinos and 38% of blacks go to schools where less than 10% of their peers are white, but beyond that, we often fail to talk about how segregation impacts us personally. How it permeates not only many of our public and private institutions, but American culture at large easily talk about culture or social segregation an area that we have control over, via the restaurants we patronize, the bars we drink at and the places we worship. Happening mostly during the peaceful times, segregation is a scar on the body of the United States of America that seems to heal but still disturbs even decades after. Not slaves anymore, at the beginning of the XX century black people were still not equal members of the society. Segregation is the act of discriminating against others because of their race. The act of Segregating is morally wrong. Racism executes appalling feats. This is because it slows down the development of countries, and brings out the worst in people.

They were forced to use different facilities, and they weren’t treated equally and fairly. Segregation is wrong in many ways. It promotes hatred and racism, and violates what America was founded on. To begin with segregation promotes hatred and racism. It allows people to openly target and mistreat one group of people.

During segregation, many African Americans suffered through bad treatment. Their school were not as nice as the white schools, and their public bathrooms were never cleaned unlike white bathrooms. Segregation has impacted society because people judge other people by their race and how the look. Many blacks have been misjudged by their race because some do not see blacks as equal to whites. Segregation has caused rights being taken away, unconstitutional hearings, and violence.

In the sources, they talk about the horrible things about segregation. Segregation is the discrimination of people of color or who are “different.” This was the biggest conflict in 1955. Segregation is wrong because it causes violence and hatred in the world, it is an unfair way to treat people, and it is unconstitutional. First, segregation causes violence and hatred to the world.

In America, the 13th Amendment that was added in late 1865, had officially abolished slavery. Former slaves were allowed the rights of citizenship and “equal protection” under the Constitution. Unfairly, these rights given to the freed slaves from the Constitution were almost always ignored. Since slavery was abolished, there were many new challenges that faced former slaves. One of the challenges were a series of laws that passed called Jim Crow laws. These laws made it illegal for blacks and whites to share many different facilities. Segregation made things harder for the black population, and caused them to be unfairly treated. Fortunately, the attitude today about segregation has changed dramatically.

Segregation is separating a certain person from a larger group of people based on what they look like, for instance an african american person vs a white person. Segregation was shown in many different ways like, signs that would get put up by a drinking fountain with an arrow pointing one way for “whites” and an arrow pointing another way for “colored” people. In 1896 the case “Plessy v. Ferguson” brought a ton of attention to the law that basically said “equal but separate”. To begin with, the dictionary says segregation is the act of being separated or set apart from others. That is exactly what was going on in the 1900s. Black people were separated from white people. The Supreme Court ruled that colored and white people were to be “separate but equal.” Nothing was really equal, though. Black people were always on the down side of the scale. Segregation was most visible on the buses in Montgomery. African Americans were told to ride in the back ten rows of the buses. The first ten rows were for white people and the center ten rows were whatever the bus driver wanted them to be. Many times the African Americans had to enter the front door to pay their toll, exit the front door and go in the back door of the bus. The bus drivers would often drive away while the African Americans were walking to the back door. Jim Crow laws prevented blacks from receiving the same rights as all other citizens.

Segregation emerged and it wasn’t until a century after that segregation was starting to be dealt with. Segregation prohibited African Americans to enter specific facilities, public places, and restaurants. Segregation caused an immense amount of violence towards African Americans, where African Americans were lynched the night prior to voting day in Mississippi, so that they wouldn’t be able to vote. Segregation made a significant mental change on African American individuals. There were African Americans who had given up on the removal of segregation and accepted that they lived in a society where they were to be belittled and treated as unequal. There were those whom were in the middle class that saw segregation as an opportunity to profit because of economical and educational security. Finally, there were those who grew tired of oppression and advocated towards violence due to their hatred and bitterness of the white race. In my opinion none of these were the right ways to approach segregation. The African American race should have always looked for ways to demolish segregation. A way that would catch people’s attention and yet keep them safe. Direct Action was the correct way to approach segregation. It caught the public’s attention, as well as made the government deal with the issue and still kept people
