Quiz 11-1: The self-assessment quiz aimed to explore my creative skills and define my creativity level. I scored 21 points, which means that my “personality and attitude are similar to those of creative people, including creative leaders.” I am very satisfied with this score because I consider myself a very creative person, especially at the workplace. Every day in the workplace, I look for more ways of self-improvement, which would allow me to deliver great results dealing with shorter deadlines.

The number of answers that “applies to me now” was 11, which indicated that I function well in a multicultural work environment. In my opinion, leaders should be skillful in communication with individuals different of cultural backgrounds, age groups, and gender. Moreover, it expands opportunities and helps discover how people think and do business. The best benefit would be to travel to other countries to have hands on experience and adapt to learning new languages.
Quiz 12-3: The assignment tested my skills in resolving conflicts and provided various situations on the decision of when the conflict resolving approach should be made. My score was 8 and it indicated that I tend to use the collaborative or the “win-win” approach, which suggests that both sides should walk away with some profit after negotiations or disputes. This result resembles my method of negotiation: always think that each person could be working together in future, so they should not engage in any future conflict situation, but instead work collaboratively to deliver a solution.
Exercise 12-4: My leadership
This work is part one of an ongoing communications portfolio which will be expanded upon weekly. Barrett (2011) describes leadership communication as “the controlled, purposeful transfer of meaning...” (p. 6). The following is a self-assessment (Barrett, 2011, pp. 407-411) which will help gauge my current leadership communication abilities. Each area will be answered with either excel (master of skill) , competent (acceptable but could improve) or need to develop (needs attention).
There were three areas in which I had the highest scores. The assessment area I had the highest score in was #1. Accepting Personal Responsibility. I believe I scored highest here, because as a child I was forced to grow up fast to help deal with situations at home. From a young age I was treated as an adult. I was taught to read at the age of three and a half to help teach my brother who is five years older than I, he was academically and emotionally slow. At the same time my father was in the military and he believed, when he came home on leave, in teaching us “The Army Values” listed below.
In taking the 360o Refined Self-Assessment I have learned my five highest leadership skills are: communication, outcome concern, information sharing, credibility, and decision fairness. My five highest rated behaviors are: communication, communication, communication, outcome concern, and outcome concern. I agree that I do well in communication. Moreover, I feel information sharing is part of good communication. I talk with my employees as often as possible and sit down with each employee once a month to do employee rounding where we speak of how well their day is going, what I can do to make it better, and share any information I have to pass along. I also agree that I am concerned for outcomes because I am genuinely concerned with my employee’s
Effective communication is the fundamental part of leadership. Ketchum Leadership Communication Monitor had identified communication at the top-ranking attribute for effective leadership in May 2014. There are nine behaviors for effective leadership, out of which five traits deal with communication, i.e. communicating the vision and decisions, the content and style messages, the way meetings are run and the importance of listening. A leader needs to connect, communicate and build relationships while running a business in order to become a successful leader.

After we had gone over Chapter 10: Handling Difficult Conversations, Conflict and Negotiation, I decided to discuss about the two conflicts that I have been involved in within the past couple weeks. The two conflicts were evidently different and therefore I had to resolve in a different way. The types of conflict resolution I compared were bargaining, dominating, collaborating, avoiding and accommodating.
•After I completed all of these self assessments quiz, I learned a lot about myself. I learned that I am more of relate to art more than science. Even though I said that I want to me a Dentist for my future, but it was just a plan. Future can be change. Something that surprised me was the knowledge quiz because the occupations that listed were mostly related to my interests.
It is essential for business leaders to have excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, as leaders are often a symbol of a company’s integrity and this affects not only how customers perceive the company, but also impacts the thoughts and actions of lower positioned employees. For example, a leader that speaks using improper grammar, or writes correspondence with spelling errors throughout it, could project a negative image that can be harmful to a company. Customers might conclude that the leader is incompetent and they might decide that they do not wish to purchase goods from a company that hires inept leaders. Furthermore, employees might become less apt to respect an authority that appears to be uneducated, as well as employees might feel that if the leader disregards using proper communication than it is not necessary for them to use it either. Business leaders need to know when to listen, when to talk, and how to share ideas effectively. Clear and concise communication states exactly how, who, what, and when and serves to guide, direct, protect, persuade, and to inform. Communication is essential for decreasing miscommunications and for increasing productivity, motivation, and efficiency. When someone uses effective communication, he or she is more apt to have favorable results and his or her requests will become granted more often. Furthermore, communication builds goodwill. Having excellent communication skills is
The description of the four types of personal orientation to others, named as competitors, individualists, cooperators, and equalizers is another way to understand our unique preferences and how we respond to others (Greenberg, 2013). This exercise indicated an individualist disposition with cooperators coming in second. Since the overall concern or motivation for an individualist is the outcomes related to self, the question now is regarding job motivation. How does this relate to the current job choice since this exercise ended in a self-revelation unbeknownst to me? Regardless of ones personal orientation, effective communication has key elements, which
After reveiewing my results from the self assessment test, my scores improved except for communication. In communication I scored one point higher than before. I dont think the test is accurate but it has definitely made me more aware of my practices and actions. When I evaluate myself using the short Self-Assessment Questionnaire, I rate myself with high self-awareness, low internalized moral perspective, low balanced processing, and low relational transparency. One of my close friends in the fellowship comments me with low self-awareness, strong internalized moral perspective, low balanced processing, and high relational transparency. Another friend rates me with low self-awareness, high internalized moral perspective, low balanced processing, and low relational transparency. By listening to their comments, it reveals that I am still a weak authentic leader. It indicates that I am a self-focused person who does not familiar with working and being with others. Thus, I sometimes ignore feedback or comment from others. My balanced processing is the weakest among four components. As a result, I should seek more other’s opinions, listen closely to the ideas of those who disagree with me, and focus on more open and careful listening to others’ voices before making decisions.
Conflict resolution is an integral aspect of human interaction, but many people fail to navigate through it successfully. This course covered the many components that can lead to successful resolution. Two segments specifically differentiated themselves from the rest; the discussion focused on interests, not positions, and the section on the use of objective criteria. My behaviors have been positively altered by the aforementioned concepts and I have experienced higher success as a result.
One of the hardest things to do is to figure out who you are as a person. For a long time I thought I knew who I was. My parents taught me to be selfless and kind despite what others do to me. I lived a life sheltered from the harsh truth that sometimes being kind all the time leaves the door open for someone to walk all over you. The people that showed me this side of the world were none other than the girls I called my best friends. After that, I learned a little something about myself and something that I could teach other people. I learned about being confident in myself and that standing up for yourself makes you a stronger person,
