Based on the results of the several self-assessment tests I completed, I confirmed things that I knew about myself, and I was surprised to have learned other things I didn’t know about myself. This course has taught me a lot about many different aspects of life, especially about my life, ranging from my personality to my skills and abilities. The Myers-Briggs type indicator defined my personality as ESTJ. ESTJ stands for extraverted, sensing, thinking, and judging. ESTJ describes a person who is practical, decisive, logical and quick to dig in. I have also taken the Gallup Strengths finder test, which identified my top five strengths as Learner, Achiever, Restorative, Competitiveness and Focus. My weaknesses, on the other hand, were more surprising. Some of the things I thought I had mastered and others that I was not sure about turned out to be weak skills. These weak skills included, time management, handling facts and inferences, intuitive ability and tolerance for ambiguity. My weaknesses, as well as my strengths, will contribute to my success or failure; although, don’t believe in failures, this is the reason why I love Nelson Mandela’s quote “I never lose, I either win or learn.” Besides the strengths found by both the personality test and the strengths finder test, after completing the personal career readiness self-assessment test, I scored an eight out of ten. Based on the Clifton Strengths Assessment my top five strengths are strategic, deliberative, learner, maximize and individualization. As an individual, I rarely look into my weakness. I believe that when your too focused on your weakness, you forget about your strengths. Everything the book said is true, and we need to take the time to look at our strengths and make it perfect. It is true that in this world or the school system, we are taught to look at our weakness and correct it so that we can become stronger in our life. This book brings out the truth that I longed to hear for a long time. Invariably, I hear my professor tell their students that for them success in life, they must practice and look at our weakness. This book proves it wrong because for us to become successful, we must stay to our strengths’ path.
Tom Rath’s “Strengths Finder 2.0” on-line assessment identified that my top five strengths are: Strategic, Focus, Futuristic, Significance, and Learner. I see the Strength Finder Assessment as a great opportunity to get to know my personal strengths and it motivates me to work and practice my talents rather than trying to fix my weaknesses. Looking only at my strengths is a new type of skills-building which allows me to stay focus on my talents.

All five strengths can be an asset in my professional role as a research assistant. As a research assistant, I constantly need to learn about new clinical trial protocols used in the hospital. If I do not research or read information on the new protocols, then I will not be educated on what the problem is, and the patient’s safety will be at risk. An example of this happens on a regular basis where I work. For example, new protocols are created everyday. Also, old protocols are updated constantly. One day we received more blood than was once required for a specific protocol, so I had to investigate if this was a new addition to the protocol and if not, I would have had to report the protocol violation since more

I discovered that my personality type was “the Defender”, and my top strengths are being loyal, hardworking, practical, and supportive. Conversely, my top weaknesses are taking things to personally, overloading myself, repressing my feelings, and being shy. On question 7-16 I strongly agreed; it is important for interviewers to prepare for interviews, this includes pre-reading resumes and applications and selecting questions that will help determine if the candidate is the right fit for the job. For question 7-19 I disagreed; direct yes or no questions do not allow applicants to demonstrate their knowledge of the job, critical thinking skills, or their confidence in their abilities. I also disagreed on question 7-23; interviewers should not conclude interviews by praising applicants for a job well done. This can falsely convince applicants that they will be hired; interviewers should instead be open and honest about who will be interviewed and the remaining
My weak area was the self-regulation portion; most of my responses to how often I handled each situation were “usually.” I need to improve on controlling my feelings in certain situations, trying to be more aware of tasks and their proposed deadlines, managing my time wisely, and executing new ideas that I myself have formulated. Other weaknesses were found in most of the areas where my strengths were. Most of them involved taking risks, which my personality often deters me from engaging in.
This assessment shows its strength by the fact that I feel as though it matches with my life. Through this, I have gain insight to the fact that I could be helpful but almost to the degree in which I could be harmful to me. While reading the description, I was proud at some parts and discourage at others. However, I do have the understanding that every personality-type as a flaw. Through my personality and learning style I am able to identify a couple of personal strengths and weaknesses. My learning style is a combination of visual and auditory learning, so I am able to learn better with images as well as learning through discussions. Discussion helped me to identify one of my strengths as I am open-minded I am able to listen and see others perspectives on a topic. Whereas my personality shows my weakness as I am an introvert I do not tend to speak up on my ideas or thoughts in discussions.
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. These scores tell me the way I think and how I tend to make decisions.
