Daniel Valencia Professor Neil Olsen SPC 1017 4 November 2015 Self-critique of Interview In this self-critique, I will analyze my performance on the job interview assignment that was conducted on October 28. The portions of the assignment that will be examined are the following: what I learned, my accomplishments, deficiencies, how I can correct my deficiencies, my experience working in a group and a suggestion for improving this assignment. The goal of this critique is to strengthen my communication behaviors for job interviews in the real world. The single most important lesson I learned from this assignment is confidence. Applying for a job similar to trying out for a sports team, the other applicants are the competition and you do not …show more content…
I was well aware to not speak too much because informing an interviewer more than what he or she needs to know is a fatal mistake. However, I did the opposite of rambling. Some of my answers were too short and not concise enough. Not too far as to answer interview questions with a simple “yes” or “no” answer, but not enough show my experience. (write something on how to fix this here). For me, working in was a more interesting part of the assignment because I was curious to see what the other group members could deliver. Each group member brainstormed ideas for each other. Even group members who were not responsible for creating the job ad also came up to good ideas. One suggestion to improve this assignment would be to allow students to bring in jobs ads that require higher levels of education, nothing more than a job that required more than a bachelor’s degree; instead of jobs that someone can be hired for straight out of high school. Jobs that require higher levels of education are jobs that college students will ultimately be searching for after graduation. (writing something) In all, with this self-critique, I explained that confidence is a great asset for job interviews, I pointed out my accomplishments with the interview, what needed improvement and how to improve it, my experience working in groups, and my suggestion for improving this
As far as my own skills, I have been pretty good at being an attentive listener for a long time. In high school amongst my friends, I remember that I was always a mediator and the person they can just talk to when times were rough. I would need to work on things like self-care, being ethically minded, and having competence. It has always worried me that I will not know how to properly handle a situation in my career. To close, I learned that this job, in particular, is exactly what I have been visualizing, that taking good care of yourself is just as important, and from this interview I now have a lot of vital advice and information to continue in this direction.
* In this assignment I will describe the main employability, personal and communication skills required when applying job role as described in P1
This is an experience that i will never forget. From the start of the assignment paper, I knew I had to face my worst fear of speech, because I am a shy person. This being my first interview, to conduct I had to be very thorough; because I wanted to mask my fears and take up the challenge. According to my personality i perceive myself to be an introvert and prefer being quiet, and this is part of my personality, I would try to mask as a professional. For this paper I would describe in detail how I prepared, carried out my interview with Mr. Andre Jackson, who is a customer service manager at walmart stores in my city, where i work.
Throughout this project I learned how to properly write a resume, cover letter, and job application. I learned key interviewing skills by observing my classmates perform good and bad interviews. Mr. Edwards enforced the proper dress code by making students conduct interviews in formal attire. Ultimately, the skills that I have gained during this assignment will assist me to earn a high paying job in the future.
Today Julie Frana, a staffing specialist/human resources recruiter from Manpower came in to talk to our health careers class about interviews. I learned a lot of different things from this presentation.
Evaluator held a class with Ms. Johnson and other participants covering interviewing. Evaluator asked Ms. Johnson and other participants if they have participated in an interview before and what they thought about it. Evaluator continued to ask Ms. Johnson and other participants, if they were prepared for the interview. Evaluator described how interviews are used, i.e. employers make hiring and promoting decisions based on people’s interviews. Evaluator stressed to participants the importance of being a salesperson during an interview. Evaluator explained to Ms. Johnson and participants that is their goal as interviewees to convince the interviewer that they should be selected. Evaluator distributed handouts discussing five stages of the interviewing
Evaluation: The overall tone of the interview was pleasant. Neither the student nor the interviewee appeared to have difficulty following the content and the process of the interview.
After assessing my interview, I found that there were a couple of things that I have improved on from my previous interviewing experiences. The first thing is a reduction in my filler words. I
When faced with having to find a job and then securing a job, the job interview has to be a home run! Simply submitting a professional resume and completing an application is not enough. You cannot settle for being average. You can wait for the next job opportunity, but there are no guarantees there will be one. In Piotrowski’s article, “Preparing for the Job Interview: Know Thyself,” she identifies the process of a job interview (Wyrick, 2014). The steps Piotrowski identified in her article are included below. The steps below focus on identifying job openings, researching companies, preparing for the interview: the pre-interview, the job interview, and the post-interview summary.
Shantelle Jones is a 17-year old adolescent female who was referred to this agency following a brief hospitalization for a suicide attempt. She resides in Rural, Michigan with her paternal aunt, Ms. Wilson, who has become her adoptive parent, as well as her younger sister, her paternal grandmother, and an adult male cousin. During her intake appointment, Ms. Wilson stated that she would like Miss Jones to be less aggressive toward her sister, less rebellious, and to become compliant with the medical recommendations of the psychiatrist who treated her in the hospital. Miss Jones stated that she would not like counseling, but if it was necessary she would comply because she would like to be less depressed and have less strife in her home life.
With my past work experiences as a case manager, I 've had various meetings about what services my clients were going to need and what my involvement was going to be in meeting their needs. This has helped me strengthen my communication skills and I have learned to talk to a variety of different individuals. I especially find myself to have confidence which has also helped me sound relaxed and approachable when meeting someone for the first time. With this in mind I felt positive I was going to do well on my interview reflection assignment for my Introduction to Occupational Therapy class.
After four interviews, one over the phone for 30 minutes and three in person, one totally an hour which was a very pleasant conversation and the other two on a separate interview totally one hour. I was exhausted from being asked the same question or just focus about my current job. I am not sure if I ever will put myself in such situation with such exhausting
Throughout this semester this class has allowed me the privilege to get to know people who I would have never talked to on a personal level while also having the chance to advance my interviewing skills while getting to know them. Not only did these interviews and experiences display my strengths such as being able to adapt to certain situations but even more importantly it helped show me my weaknesses. After one interview and the next, I had to learn what role I had to play as within each interview I had to adapt to find my specific role as it varied from one to the next. Having the opportunity to interview a handful of people from the beginning of this semester to now has also taught me that the person you are interviewing can have a tremendous effect on if the interview goes successfully or not for reasons that I will elaborate on further in my paper. Lastly, one of the greatest lessons I learned about while interviewing people would be how to properly prepare to make sure the interview itself go as smoothly as possible. All of these factors have helped me grow in becoming a better interviewer and have helped me grow as a person.
When I think of the word interview I think of it as a series of questions asked from one person to another to seek information. In my previous assessment we were asked to interview a fellow peer, on their personal experience of QIBT so far this year. We were not given any question, but made to think of our own. As we were interviewing our peer another peer was marking us on our overall ability to interview. This piece of reflective writing will be an explanation of what I thought my personal strengths and weaknesses were throughout my interview.
Preview Main Points: Throughout the interviewing process, I was able to gain insight into my career goals, the role of communication in education, and my own communication skills.
