Self Esteem Final Paper The world we live in is tough, and self-confidence can either make or break a person. Confidence is when a person believes in himself, otherwise he can get lost. Self-esteem is affected by race, age, ethnicity, gender and many more factors. Confidence can also be associated with feelings about one's appearance. Confidence and its effects can be looked at through many different lenses. It is a characteristic that is constantly relived every day in a person’s life and can almost always be strengthened and improved. Self-esteem relates to a person’s social network, what they participate in and the feedback they get from others. Positive self-esteem affects a person’s mental and psychical health. Low self-esteem is linked to depression, health and social issues. People’s confidence can change with the environment they are in such as home or school. This topic is close to home for me. As a parent it is something I hope to instill in my children in the best way possible. I want them to know that they can achieve whatever goals they set for themselves no matter the hardships that come along the way. The best way I can do this for them is by setting myself as an example and letting them know that I will always be there to support them along the way. Additionally, it is important to me is because I myself did not have the best self-confidence as a child. I grew up being shy and afraid to show my true self.
