Isolation is the absence of other people around someone. Studies show a repeating trend that suggests that isolation causes harm to those whom it affects and, although to a lesser extent, their family and friends as well. There are two types of isolation, self-induced isolation and forced isolation, such as exile.
Isolation has recently been revealed to harm the person it controls, mentally and physically. According to Justin Worland of TIME Magazine, isolation could be the next big public health issue, next to obesity and drug abuse(1). In fact, isolation can physically demolish the victim if not controlled or avoided. In severe cases isolation can lead to loss of muscle which causes the victim to become weaker and have a harder time functioning.
